Windows Live Essentials - Wave 3 Release Candidates?

Recommended Posts

YAY Ive been waiting for this, glad i clicked this topic :D

The thing that annoys me is when you select just one thing to install it installs over crap like Direct3D9 and Microsoft SQL Server etc stuff that i don't really need :s

for some reason Messenger wont update and neither will photo gallery, photo gallery is stuck on the computer too, it wont remove due to some missing stuff

Oh dear!

They seem to have taken out signature sounds in this release! That was one of my favourite features :(

Does anybody know why? :( You could easily turn them off by pressing "Mute this contact's signature sound". It was very fun too!

Also, the default themes still mess up an become pixelated when used :/ For example, the tree theme looks very pixelated when you use that. Themes are also repeated in the "Change your Scene" dialog and I don't think any of them are dynamic, like on the Windows Live web services.

Dear o' dear! What's happened with this release? I'm quite disapointed to be honest.

I do love the new sign-in toasts though! They are beautiful! Also, it's good to see certain bugs fixed and that you can set it so contact's windows use your default theme :)

Does anybody know a way we can get it so all conversation windows use our selected theme, unless they have specifically selected one themselves? You see, I kind of hate it when it has the default blue instead if somebody else hasn't selected a theme...

To get you IM windows to display the scenes just click the menu button, click tools then "use the default scene". Simple enough.

I will agree that the do lack some polish. They do not stretch well at all but thats probabley just the way of it. Other than that the release is great! I HATED signature sounds with a passion.

+1

They could at least resample it when resizing the scene.

Thanks but as I stated, I already know about that option :) It's just I'm pretty sure that option always displays your theme in all conversation windows, even if another contact has selected a theme (or 'scene' as it's called in Messenger). What I want is to be able to see my contact's selected scene, but for the contacts who aren't using Windows Live Messenger 2009 (i.e. those who haven't changed their scene), I'd prefer to see my default scene used.

However, I doubt this could be a feature when I think about it more, because many people will use the default theme so the developers would have to code it so Messenger knows which version each contact is using....

By the way, you do realise you could turn signature sounds off right? Why take out a feature many like and have fun with, just because it annoys some people, when it can be turned off in the options anyway?

I wish Photo gallery would play nice with network folders/shares though.

I've tried everything and given every permission to everyone and photo gallery just keep refusing to save changes to the actual images (fixes and tags stored in the files, while the database tags work fine, but are useless since they're... not very portable). Kind of annoyign how it just won't work with networked files, even when I try to cheat by using a mapped folder. everything else is abel to modify the files just fine, except photo gallery.

I wish Photo Gallery supported changing the colour of the layout :D and was updated, like Mail has been, to the new interface style!

Why haven't they updated the interface in Photo Gallery? They also haven't got rid of the folder icons and other icons (like they have with Mail) and make the headers bigger (like they have with Mail).

Come on Windows Live Team - Consistency please!

Can an official beta tester, like RebelSean for example, please file a bug report on this?

Photo Gallery is an application we all use frequently, therefore it should at least be consistent with Mail's user interface.

Getting rid of the folder icons doens't make so muh sense in Photo gallery, since it actually displays folders. and bigger headers... I dunno, I like my neat small tet in the folder tree :p, I only have one main folder I actually use anyway (or try to use, if only it would save to the network folders)

oh and would they pelase add support for saving fix changes to raw files, without having to do workarouns liek saving copies first (wich again doesn't work on network folders, wich doesn't matter since I can't ave fixes anyway :p)

Question about Windows Live Mail, if you download your hotmail messenger onto the client, do they still remain when you log into hotmail.com?
:p

Yes, they just DL them as a copy and the only thing changed on the real web version is if it the read/replied status.

Super! I'll certainly take a look into downloading Windows Live Mail when I get the chance. This way, I won't have to load my web browser every time I want to check my mail.

I cannot login on this new version :(

I'm using Windows XP

Same here, I cannot login with XP SP3, Let me ask you, do you happen to be using AVG Pro? I have seen several people reporting the same error code: 8100030d and everything and it looks like some of them also use AVG, myself included.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
