Heroes Volume 4 : Fugitives

They definitely tried to emphasize the need for physical contact for Peter to absorb powers...

The argument that has since come up is whether or not he can only mimic one ability at a time, or whether he has the same ability he had before, except he needs physical contact to absorb the new powers

Nothing is totally confirmed, I guess we'll see more as the series goes on... the first part of my statement is almost for certain as it was intentionally shown and highlighted in the show. What his power exactly is remains to be seen

Well given how dumb the writers are (after the mess volume 3 was) I would expect anything. Maybe they did it so that the viewers would notice that peter (who it was established only had the flying power at the moment) got the power from suresh. He did seem to touch suresh on purpose, so he must have known that he needed touch to get the powers?

It could have been intentionally shown because there's never been a 'graphical' way of peter using his own power, and I really do believe they may be that dumb to introduce it now.

Or maybe he got control of his power and now, instead of taking any power near him, he touches the person to get it, a new theory...

if the first episode has created all this thoughts, i fear this thread will get longer than last volume one...

That makes about as much sense as Dwight saying he has the ability to increase and lower his cholesterol at will. His reason for increasing it? So that he can lower it. Nah, not plausible.

this doesn't mean it's decreasing his power, What i try to say is that now he controls his power and uses it when he wants not anytime he passes by an evolved to be sure he's not taking some power he can not control. this, of course, can be done without the touching, but maybe the writers just wanted to add some stuff to our discussions :p.

it's just a thought, it can perfectly be not plausible as you say, the reality, only the writers know it. let hope Monday come soon (and Tuesday sooner to me)

Remember before he had to see them use their power to get it. Maybe he figured out that he can also get the power by touching them.

If your on a plane with them all drugged up and not able to use their powers Peter wouldnt be able to see them use their powers to get them.

That's not true. Peter never had to see anyone use their power or touch anyone to get their powers. Peter almost went boom when he first met Ted at the end of the first season, and he also involuntarily went invisible when he first met Claude.

Purposely controlling his leeching power so that he only gets the ones he wants by touching someone doesn't make sense because that's not how his power is supposed to work. I still haven't seen the volume opener, not sure when I will either.

HE saw ted use his power first. You dont remember the episode where peter learned how to control his powers by thinking back to when he met the people and they used there powers? He lost all their powers . Remember there was a huge gap in time between this ep and the last one. Maybe he learned how to get the powers by touching them instead of having to see them use the powers.

From the Distractions episode season one

"The lessons commence in "Distractions". Claude tells Peter to separate himself from his loved ones. Peter fiercely disagrees, but Claude says that caring about people—particularly Nathan—is holding him back. Claude reminds Peter that he must learn to harness the powers he's previously mimicked intentionally (or face exploding), and without their inherent users present. Then, Claude pushes Peter off a tall building and tells him to fly. Peter falls onto a taxicab suffering fatal injuries, but survives by remembering Claire Bennet and mimicking her powers. Peter realizes that he does not need to push people out of his mind; he just needs to remember how those people made him feel to regain use of their abilities. He then starts to lose control thinking about too many others at once leading Claude to knock him out."

"In "Unexpected", Peter is shown to have more control over the abilities he has absorbed. During a sparring session with Claude, Peter uses telekinesis to shield himself from a blow, which puzzles Claude since none of Peter's acquaintances has that power. Peter surmises that he must have picked it up from the man who attacked him in Texas. Later in the episode, when assaulted by Mr. Bennet and the Haitian, due to a betrayal by Isaac, Peter stops the Taser darts in mid-air, then uses flight to save himself and Claude. After their escape, Claude blames Peter for bringing Bennet and Haitian after him (revealing that he has remained invisible in order to elude them) and leaves Peter on his own.

You're mistaken. He does not have to see people use their powers to get them. There's no correlation between his eyes and his power. He could be blind and still gain other people's ability. Heck, the show's writers even commented that at one point Peter had all of Sylar's powers because the two were near each other, it's just that Peter didn't know how to use them, and he most certainly didn't see Sylar use all of them.

Mat & Soooper are right, Peter doesn't need to see the people use their power to copy it, if it is so, he would never had gotten Claude power because he can't see him. what happened is that Peter was walking and suddenly got invisible and able to see Claude.

After te training with Claude, he learned how to control and use the powers he has acquired, and that by remembering the person he copied it from

Peter Does Have a New Ability

One of the biggest mysteries of Heroes Volume 4's premiere episode 3x14 A Clear and Present Danger is what is exactly Peter's ability!?

Of course on sites like this and various forums it was been debated heavily about whether he has his original "mimicry" ability or not and how it even works now!?

Well in the audio commentary with Star Milo Ventimiglia and creator Tim Kring they pretty much confirm that Peter has a "New" ability.

Basically saying that they decided not to explain it so fans could guess what it is and many of you are speculating he can only retain the ability of the last one he has absorbed (gained}.

So what do you all think now!?

Use the audio player below to listen to the commentary that also contains audio for several other scenes as well.

Enjoy!

Thanks to Manu for the audio :)

Based on many fan comments, a lot of fans will STOP watching the show if Peter indeed can only use 1 power at a time. NOT good!

If "one power at a time" is true, then they are writing this show into Doom!

My THEORY is he can use more than 1 power, but someone like Claude need to show him how to do it again, or contact with Sylar!

Why would people stop watching based on that?

I remember it was not too long ago everyone was complaining because Peter and Sylar had tons of powers.
