I am experiencing an issue where my computer screen is blank after booting up into Windows 7, like I see the new boot image fine, but after that, there is a period of 20second complete blank screen, like the monitor isn't off, because it doesn't display that "loss of power thing that normally would if it did" and the keyboard and the mouse aren't receiving power either. I also notice that my computer during that period suddenly goes completely blank, almost like its turned off.

I've also gone ahead and removed all the usb connections and everything and didn't notice any difference. After the blank screen, the welcome screen shows up and its almost an instant switch to the desktop. It almost feels like the "blank screen" is being used in my computer to preload my desktop?

the same thing is happening to me with my dual booted win7, except that it doesn't go to the welcome screen at all! When I startup the computer, the initial boot screen with the 4 moving windows particles displays, and then the screen goes black for maybe 20sec. After that, a blue line(win7 style) appears near the top of the screen and does not go away.

Am I experiencing the same problem here? My installation carried through without any problems and I even ran the startup diagnostic without a hitch.

Any help is appreciated!

I had the same problem. reboot your computer, and when it asks you what OS to start, highlight Windows 7 and press F8. Then, boot it in low-resolution mode.

I installed next to XP, so I don't know if you'll have the same option if 7 is the only OS on the computer.

I still can't use any resolution higher than 640x480 without getting a black screen with the thin blueish line at the top, but at least it starts.

I ran into this problem. After a clean install of Windows 7 on a blank hard drive, my PC would boot fine, let me log in, and then go to a black screen with a white cursor - nothing else. Here's how I fixed it:

1. Reboot holding down F8

2. Boot in safe mode with networking

3. Google for latest driver for video card manufacturer (Nvidia) and Windows 7

4. Download and install new driver

5. Reboot

Everything was fine after that.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I boot, am presented with login screen so I do, it starts to load but stops on a black screen, with the revision on the bottom right, etc. No explorer.exe, unable to pull up task manager, unresponsive to ctrl+alt+del and other shortcuts, etc.

Problem is, I'm in safe mode, downloaded a revision of my nVidia driver that's a month newer than my last, but it won't install. It simply says it can't find compatible hardware and exits. I actually fairly often update it and haven't seen that, and double checked I didn't select the wrong series, etc. Any suggestions? Oh, also I've re-imaged C and this didn't help.

What is you can't even get to the safe mode? It says cannot boot safe mode while still installing windows. But it never completely install windows and it just sits on a blank black screen with arrow. I cannot even use recovery manager and recover vista. I basically have a dead computer....help!

Then if I boot it in F10 mode, it says:

Edit windows boot option for windows 7

Path windows\system32\winload.exe

Partition 1

Hard Disk ####

{/NoEXECUTE=OPTION

???????

Also I tried Startup Repair

When I try Startup Repair this is what I get:

Startup Repair Offline

Signature 01 6.1.7600.16385

02 6.1.7600.16385

03 Unknown

04 -1

05 External Media

06 1

07 NoOSInstalled

OS Version 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

Locale ID 1033

Also I've seen No OS Files found on disk

This doesn't sound good.

    • Frankly, I blame whoever is writing such articles. "A big improvement/update and/or new feature is now available to everyone! Also, use this unofficial tweak tool to enable it because it actually isn't available to you yet officially and might not in fact even be entirely ready or whatever, hence why it is perhaps not enabled for you*. But it's great and you should enable it!" I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing info about some feature you might need to enable via unofficial means, of course. It's just that these articles tend to essentially end up being two news pieces in one, and one of them tends to be a bit misleading. (*Yes, yes, the "it's a controlled rollout!" thing. Not a fan of that one either. The argument, not the actual rollout.)
    • Thank you. Will do. I read in the release notes that editor config might be at play here.
    • Actually, I think even Microsoft doesn't know how to control it
    • OpenAI is making Codex more useful in Chrome and the cloud by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI's Codex now has more than 5 million users, up nearly 4x from earlier this year. To further accelerate Codex's growth among developers, OpenAI today announced that it has agreed to acquire Ona, a company that builds secure cloud execution and orchestration technology for developers. Ona will enable developers to run Codex with persistent and controlled cloud infrastructure for long-running agentic workflows. Right now, most Codex execution happens locally on developers' laptops and PCs, and the agents work continuously for hours. Through Ona, OpenAI aims to make Codex agents keep working for days without being tied to a user’s local machine or an active session. This will be an important capability for enterprises that want to deploy AI agents in production while maintaining control over infrastructure, data, security boundaries, credential scope, logging, and review workflows. Like any acquisition, the deal is still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until the deal closes, OpenAI and Ona will continue to operate as separate companies. After closing, Ona’s team will join the Codex team to improve developer workflows. Alongside the Ona acquisition announcement, OpenAI today introduced a few Codex updates. Developers can now save Codex rate limit resets and use them later instead of losing them when they are not needed immediately. OpenAI is also adding a referral option where users can invite a friend to Codex and get a saved rate limit reset. OpenAI today also announced a developer mode for browser use in Chrome and the Codex in-app browser. With this mode, Codex can use the Chrome DevTools Protocol to debug web apps, inspect pages, and work more directly with browser-based development workflows. Developers can use this when they want Codex to profile JavaScript, inspect console output and network traffic, examine web page states including the DOM and applied styles, and more.
