so OFFICIALLY MS says that the public beta WILL be released today correct?

We do not have an OFFICIAL time, we just have a picture from MSDN saying 12pm PST?

When the beta is released the only place to get it will be http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/

Are all of these correct?

Yes.

dont need the dvd you can run the installer from for example a windows XP and i will make a fresh install.

VMware is a software of virtualization that enables you to create an "Virtual Computer" and install an OS on it. for more information you should go to http://vmware.com/virtualization/

Haven't even touched Vista, don't have the hardware for it.

What's this VMware Chicane mentioned?

What kind of hardware are you running might I ask? While Windows 7 does seem to perform better on lower end hardware than vista, it will not be like day and night.

windows team blog is getting Hammered big times :p

F5_refresh.jpg

The blog and the main website aren't on same servers too. Windows.com is on higher load ability microsoft.com server 66.249.17.251 and the blog is on obviously a lower capacity server 66.129.68.242

rofl , sooo true

virtual box it's free and does the job as long as you have virtualised compatible cpu.

No.. It's there for a reason, to help you tell MS about any bugs you encounter. You ARE going to do that, right?

you can remove it with registry edit. There's a shortcut on the desktop which is sufficient enough for it then having it on every windows which cosmetically can be a pain for some and specially those who switch windows quite often and quickly with the titlebars clicking on it by mistake can be a pain.

Here's how.

1. Go to Run

2. Type regedit (Registry Editor), press ENTER.

3. Now navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

4. Add in a new DWORD (32-bit) Value named FeedbackToolEnabled, and then set its value data as 0.

5. Log on again for the change to take effect.

This beta is an upgrade for Vista SP1. According to the official blog it can only be installed as an upgrade from Vista SP1, this only applies to the public beta, also the downloads will be available for a limited time only, the limit of 2.5 million applies to the number of keys to be given out. If you don't get a key you can still use it for 30 days.

Edit: i think if you want to install it in any virtual pc you'll have to install Vista SP1 first.

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • I've never even heard of this browser before seeing this article. How does it differ from other browsers?
    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
