That's what the blog says, i read it yesterday, i'd quote but the server is too busy, if anyone gets on take a screenshot.

Edit:

They wouldn't do this. That would force people to basically use windows 7 as a main OS.

The blog basically says you can only upgrade from Vista SP1.

That guy took it to mean that the only way to install is to do an upgrade and only from Vista SP1.

What they actually meant was that if you want to upgrade, as opposed to a fresh install (which you can obviously still do), you must do it from Vista SP1.

Brandon, can you clarify this? Does this mean clean installs aren't available with Windows 7 Beta, or does the quoted statement simply apply only to upgrade scenarios?

bninefounder, you can most certainly do a clean install of the Windows 7 Beta. I usually do clean installs myself - especially on my laptops. The statement applies to upgrade scenarios.

So you don't have to worry about fresh installs...

I assumed the was talking about the beta, I could (I hope) I'm wrong, but I cant get on the blog so I haven't been able to read more recent posts.

The problem was people didn't read the very next sentence.

Following is the Microsoft response to want to run Windows 7 beta version of the system, the recommended minimum hardware requirements. These recommendations apply only to the beta, it is possible to make changes:

* CPU：1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor

* RAM：1 GB of system memory

* Hard Drive: 16 GB of free disk space

* Video card: 128MB memory, support for DirectX 9 graphics card (for the opening of the Aero theme)

* Drive: DVD-R / W drive

* Internet: Internet connection (for downloading the beta and update)

It doesn't say that at all, why would they only allow upgrades? They doesnt make any sense.

It says that because i quoted it from the page. You need to read it properly and what I said. They are saying the only way *to upgrade* is via Vista SP1. So in other words, it's either a clean install or an upgrade from Vista SP1

      The consumer ESU is ending in 4 months. LTSC isn't now, never has been, and never will be for consumer use, it is for OT usage - plant machinery, medical devices, manufacturing equipment etc. LTSC requires a Microsoft EA. You can't legally obtain LTSC to run on your PC at home.

      Being on GitHub doesn't make something safe. Like any unofficial scripts to do x or y this caters to people with just enough knowledge to be dangerous. If you want to do what this does, and you actually know what you're doing then write your own script (or maybe just add the reg keys yourself) if you don't have the ability to read and understand what a script is doing, and especially don't run it with elevated privileges. Or in this case just use an MSA, sign up the normal route, and stop trying to push water up hill
