No 64bit support? Doesn't work with Vista Business 64bit

It does work, what aspect does not work, using with Ultimate x64 SP1, no problems, but yes it is a 32 bit application and don't even thing about getting proper 64 bit support any time soon

CCCP still supports a lot more codecs.

DivX 7 might have a better performing codec for H.264 (etc.) than CCCP has, in that case you just deactivate ffdshow for those formats and let DivX handle them.

Thanks for this. I guess I will try it after all.

I installed Divx 7 and it did what I wanted it to do, which was allow me to watch H.264 .mkv files through Media Center. Only problem is, it seems to be crashing Media Center when the file stops playing. I'm guessing conflict with FFDShow maybe. Would I be better off just un-installing FFDShow, and using Divx7 for Divx and H.264, then use the Xvid codec separately? Maybe I should un-install Divx7, then re-install it with only the mkv splitter, and use the CoreAVC codec? Any help is always appreciated! Thanks!

DivX and XviD are the same codec, there's no reason to have them, both installed.

Same as ffdshow if you're only using it to play back MPEG-4 ASP content (i.e. DivX/XviD), you don't need both (or all 3) installed at the same time.

I got it working the way I want for the most part, but now I'm having an issue with subtitles within Media Center. This only seems to happen with .mkv files. Sometimes they will work, sometimes they don't. It's very strange. Movies seem to work better than TV shows. I have the file and subtitle file named the same thing in the same directory, yet it still works sporadically. What could be causing this? It's weird, cause it works if I go into FFDShow's video decoder configuration and set the subtitle file as the only one to play. It works with .mkv files that way everytime. If I set it to search for the files, it doesn't always work. I have the right folder setup to look for subtitle files. Is there a better way to play subtitles through Media Center? Using .mkv files as main video source. It seemed to work perfect when I installed Divx7. Could this be because of the splitter that it comes with? Is it Matroska instead of Haali's? Maybe that's the issue. Hope someone can shed some light on this. Thanks!

    • Hello, Christian Maas' XVI32 is a nice (and very small) hex editor. Speaking of hex editors, many years ago a colleague and I who both worked at Tribal Voice managed to edit a copy of the company's PowWow instant messaging client to make it behave better now that all of its lookup servers and other server-side tech was gone.  The program didn't support NAT (RFC-3022 was introduced in January 2001, the same time Tribal Voice was shuttered), but it still worked okay if you manually set up port-forwarding on your router.  The server at http://powwow.jazy.net/ hosts a copy (usual warnings about downloading and running untrusted code from random internet servers apply). I occasionally use some tools like Funduc Software's Search and Replace and Application Mover when I need to make mass-edits to text-based files or move programs with a hard-coded installation directories, respectively.  When I need to figure out the exact LCD panel inside of a laptop, EnTech Taiwan's Monitor Asset Manager is my go-to tool for that purpose. JD Design's website (now hosted on github.io) has a number of interesting freeware and shareware utilities.  I used to use their TouchPro utility to set the file timestamps on software I was mastering to match its version number (e.g., version 3.00 of a program had all of its files dates set to 3:00AM, and so forth). Karenware has a number of interesting freeware utilities, too. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • I still use HexChat! Not really as ancient as the 1994 AutoCAD above my post, but I have never found anything better to replace it. Yes we still operate an IRC server https://www.neowin.net/irc/ 😛
    • At work we still have a couple of people that use a version of AutoCAD LT purchased in 1994. This predates Windows 95 and works fine on versions of Windows up to XP. Its long since run in an locked down isolated XP VM, accessible via RDP. I did install LibreCAD for them, however they said it was just too different to get to grips with. In all fairness one of them is now 75 and the other is almost 60.
    • On my music making (non internet) PC Sony Acid Pro 7.0 Adobe Audition 2015 Korg Legacy Collection Windows 7 SP1
    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
