PS3 sales up 130 per cent during Christmas

Recommended Posts

I well suspect this could be true certainly for some games. Remember if I recall the PS3 GUI/OS consumes 2-3 cores iteself and these are permantly reserved for its exclusive use.

The big issue is though games done need raw cpu performance they need graphics card power which is one reason the xbox 360 generally looks as good as the ps3 as the gcard chip is much better in the xbox.

Also a mate who is a games dev says its hard to make games for multicore. Unreal engine 3 helped as it does multicore well and developers need to worry less as the ground work has been done to split the tasks/processes out to each core.

I tbh dont think a *revolution* will come when/if they decide the use the *spare* cores as developers have a hugely hard time programming for the PS3 currently (his words as well as mine) due to sony being terrible at documentation/help for developers. Its one reason the xbox is so popular because MS have a well implemented programming language with lots of support/documentation.

I beg to differ. MS has

I doubt that as NPD have stated for quite a few months now the PS3 sales are less then the 360 and even still the 360 has sold approx 28million consoles to sonys 16million (and thats including people who only bought it as it was cheap blue ray back in the day)

I did hear the PS3 had terrible sales year on year (for December) though and that it was actually down a few percent so until NPD come out with stats (which I know is only USA) I think its PR spin. I personally know no one that bought a ps3 this Christmas where tons got xbox's as they are so cheap.

I recall I have read about a 9% decline year to year for the PS3.. i might be wrong though.

seem to be forgetting PC has both the best software range and the best online gaming too

It does in many ways tbh but unless the game is WoW pc games sales generally never have anywhere near the same amount of units sales console versions do. Dev's like consoles as the game generally will work on every 360 for example where as they have to test countless types of pc to ensure a game is gold standard. Also its much harder to pirate games for consoles and I know not all are good and there are always ways around it but for most this is technically too challenging esp since some countries have banned mod chips as a whole.

this is awesome.

and some ppl need to be banned here. its not even ocassional trolling anymore but almost every post .

I agree. I'm also sick of it and the 2 people that are constantly doing it are now being ignored. If these people have nothing different to say, perhaps they shouldn't bother?

We know that Sethos and DrunknMunky don't like the PS3, so why do they feel compelled to keep telling us?

Critically, probably the strongest line-up, MGS4 and LBP have been cleaning up quite a few awards (two highest rated titles on metacritic also).

So 2 games makes the strongest line up? You can't possibly believe that.

That means by review scores.

Maybe you should take the rest of my post you missed out and read it...

Quite frankly I probably shouldn't even of started bringing critics into this, so I'm sorry I even did.

However the minute we start arguing opinions, everyone is going to blast off with a different perception of who's software was "better"... So really, ignore the PR, or we'll see this topic turn into yet another stupid 360 vs PS3 argument.

Anyway, good year for every console (that we should all agree with), much better PS3 software than last, they just need affordability now. So the price cut better be soon into 2009 or else all the seemingly good software lined up for 09, is going to have a high price barrier to entry for many.

I do not for the life of my care about this onslaught of nonsense this topic has turned into.

The best lineup is the lineup you choose for yourself, no one else. Whatever you think is the best, even if it has critically received the worst scores is valid for yourself. No one else's opinion matters, so everyone should stop the petty semantics of "my lineup is better than yours" - It's not any "better", everyone likes different games. All you might get is internet brownie points if your buddies lineup is similar or you decide some "underground Japanese card playing real time strategy puzzler FPS open world MMO" is game of the year, and people think "woah that guy is different, he's cool, let's tell him that and become e-buddies".

Don't you see that you aren't going to convince someone otherwise? Everyone chooses the lineup they like best, there's no convincing to be done. Only endless cycles of arguing.

It's the same when applied to two consoles which have both had great years - There isn't much between them in terms of critical acclaim, so the arguing again just goes around in circles. If it were 2007 Sony vs 2007 MS, you'd have more scope for arguing, but Sony's lineup has been just as competitive as MS' this year, so for the sake of saving this forum another bloody war, just call it quits and say everyone released great games this year.... except for the Wii. Oh damn, I gotta stop the Wii slip ups. Wii had great games as well (Y)

I hate school holidays.

Actually Sethos doesn't like anything

But seriously, people have the right to like/dislike whatever they want. Imagine no one criticized the PS3 or the XBox, we'd be either stuck with a crappy firmware/online experience or really faulty hardware nowadays. Just praising everything will get us nowhere.

Criticism is good, I didn't say otherwise. Just when the same people have the same thing to say over and over again it gets kind of tedious. That's all.

:D

I brought one over Christmas.

It's a great media device, blu-ray looks better than I thought it would and media streaming is fantastic.

I like Little Big Planet but I still perfer my 360 to actually play games on.

I went shopping after Christmas for a new Xbox 360 and I could barely find one. I went from store to store only to see stacks of PS3s patiently waiting to be bought... and not a single Xbox 360 in sight. Don't get me wrong, I'm not loyal to Microsoft or anything like that. In fact I plan on buying a PS3 sometime during the summer. All in all, I guess it depends on where you're from. In Toronto, the Xbox 360 is all the buzz.

This knocks $350 off the price compared to the $999 Ryzen 9 configuration. In both instances, a Windows 11 Pro license is also pre-loaded. As I said previously, this appears to be an update on the A7 with the only difference being the newer CPU. The packaging has changed quite a bit from the A7. Instead of dark colors, now the box is completely white, and the foam cushion has been replaced by a cardboard mould that the A8 sits in, above a small envelope that contains a thank you card and booklet that has guidance on all of the controls, how to access the A8 to swap out the SSD or memory, and safety information in several European languages. Upon removing the cardboard mould, you can find another cardboard compartment that contains the power lead, HDMI cable, VESA plate, and a bag of screws. What’s In The Box 1 x A8 Mini PC 1 x Power Adapter 1 x HDMI Cable 1 x VESA plate and bag of screws 1 x Envelope with booklet and Thank you card Unlike the A7, the VESA mount option is back with the A8.
