Boy, 9, subdues pit bull with choke hold

Recommended Posts

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Authorities in California said a 9-year-old boy saved a girl from a pit bull attack by putting the vicious dog in a jiu-jitsu choke hold.

Drew Heredia said he was walking with the girl and her small dog in Bakersfield when the pit bull approached them and attacked the smaller canine, KGPE-TV, Fresno, Calif., reported Tuesday.

The pit bull turned its attention to the girl after she tried to rescue her dog and Heredia said he then jumped on the attacking dog's back and applied a choke hold he had learned at a local Brazilian jiu-jitsu studio. :D

Heredia held the pit bull in the choke hold until an animal control officer arrived and took the dog into custody.

The girl, who was hospitalized with multiple puncture wounds, and her dog are expected to recover fully.

aww i was about to read the 6 year old driving 10 miles one you ruined it for me :p

he cud of just been really obese? lol

Assuming it was a fully grown pit bull, weight advantage isn't going to cut it unless it's a 9 year old weighting 75Kg

He would probably have to immobilize its head in order to stop it from biting him. That would require some strength

The news piece doesn't really clarify those details.

Could have just stuck his fingers up its bum instead... It stops pitbulls from being able to lock their jaws.

... Please explain that in detail.

Not being able to lock its jaw doesn't really make it less than a threat. Unless it was a paralytic pit bull, I would expect it to be really agitated and moving around a lot. They are really dangerous dogs if not trained properly by people that have no intentions of using them to cause harm. Unfortunately most people who own them (at least where I live), own them for the specific purpose of causing harm to others. :pinch:

I can reason with an human opponent into not attacking me but I can't reason with a pit bull. They're my greatest fear when I'm at work.

Here in Ontario pit bulls are supposed to be muzzled, however some are and a lot more aren't and the -- useless -- police are not enforcing the law.

Agreed. Was almost attacked by some chav's dog at a local Timmies last year and the good old bobbies wouldn't do anything.

First of all, obese children do not have a lot of strength. Sure they have a lot of weight, but i think it's more likely that the kid was just very smart and skilled in jujitsu. pretty much anyone can take down an opponent that's reasonably stronger or bigger if they know the right moves.

Here in Ontario pit bulls are supposed to be muzzled, however some are and a lot more aren't and the -- useless -- police are not enforcing the law.

All of that, after months and months of deliberation, they finally come to the agreement they must be muzzled, yet no one enforces it. That was a waste of tax payers money, just like that freedom for girls to walk topless in the streets. No girls walk topless

...just like that freedom for girls to walk topless in the streets. No girls walk topless

Actually, right after that ruling that women could walk topless, up and down the street I lived on there happened to be young girls doing just that...most of them in their early teens -- you know how teenagers are -- and we couldn't call the cops because it was now a woman's right to walk around bare breasted!

... Please explain that in detail.

I was told when younger (during dog training sessions), that if a pitbull attacks, it has the ability to lock its jaws in place and its near impossible to unlock them without removing its teeth.

They explained to the class that in order to stop a pitbull being able to even bite properly, they have a muscle or something inside the anal area which, when pressurised, stops the dog from being able to bite down to its full force, so they may not be able to inflict injury. It also makes them submit in a lot of cases.

Pitbullare starting to replace the knife culture in London now as a legal alternative. Im not sure there is a law to have them on a lead or mussled, but there should be. A few times they have run around up to people and started to sniff about and get "upset". The owners (usually a 15 year old chav, grabs the dog and pulls it back, although struggling. Then they mouth off at the person the dog got upset with, telling them not to upset their dog :s
