meteora2006
I have windows Vista x64, i just want to know will W7 be more like VISTA or more like XP? and i dont mean looks or anything..i mean the compatibility issues, i havent been able to play video games i used to play before i bought this computer with Vista already on it. I just want to know before i download it for no good reason, just because it looks pretty haha. Thats my MAIN problem with Vista..compatibility with video games pre-Vista. Compatibility, speed, those are my main problems on this computer...when i first got it, it was fast as HELL going where i needed to go...but now only a year into owning the computer, its slowed down quite a bit..its not lagging too much..its bearable..but i just get annoyed that it shouldnt be running that way. FloatingFatMan
W7 is built off the Vista codebase, so no... It's nothing like XP. As for game compatibility, I haven't found ONE game that doesn't work under Vista at least as well as it did on XP... Stop believing the FUD. ThePhoenix
Same here, all my games and apps that worked on Vista work fine on Windows 7 as well, it's not a big jump like XP to Vista was, Windows 7 is basically what Vista should have been, it's based on the same version of the NT Kernel (6.1) it's just they have fixed all the annoying bits and made it run the way Vista should have done from the start, at least they learnt from their mistakes. For example with Vista, the first thing I always do after installing it is to disable UAC, it annoys the hell out of me, however they hav made it quite a lot smarter by the looks of it in Win 7 as I have it on and it hardly bothers me at all, much more friendly, I'll actually leave it switched on now. sharp65
I disabled UAC in vista but I leave it on the second lowest setting in 7 and its fine. Mercellus
Windows 7 is quite compatible compared to what Windows Vista was when it was released. Microsoft have done a lot of work in regards to compatibility and stability with Windows 7 as well as performance, so I think you'll be quite impressed once it is installed. Ambroos
If you bought the computer with Windows Vista installed and it has 2GB or more of RAM I just wouldn't touch XP. XP also gets slower over time, and the performance gain at this point is minimal. sweetleaf
If it is your main pc you do not want to install windows 7 as it is a beta. You should install it on another hd or partition. As far as games windows vista x64 has many issues with games but x86 has less. Will that solve some of my video game compatibility problems? Probably not as I think your gaming issues are not OS related. Latest drivers, patches well looked after Windows ie not installed load crap don't use etc. Most issues are caused by user habits not OS.
