How do i block internet access to apps

ok i got a few apps that i dont want phoning home for updates etc... how can i block these i know software like zonealarm does the job but dont wanna use it as i have a router with NAT that does its job :)

anyone know?

if they use domain names to access inet you can null them out using host file

if they use ips to access inet you can nullroute 'em using ROUTE command

What kind of router are you using?

Your best bet would be to find out which port those apps are running on and from there you can block those ports.

The App will never use the internet again

Then you shouldn't block port 80 because you will stop all your http traffic

ya, no ****.

that's why blocking ip where those apps access is better than blocking ports.

It depends what application we are talking about...but you are right, if they are using port 80 then you cannot block that port and the best way would be to block the IP
