Google services new favicon.ico

I like it, although I think it's maybe wayyyy to colourful for something like Google which has the worst website design I have ever seen! The last favicon went with their boring, disgusting layout much better than this one.

I wish they would update their layout to go with this new favicon and be less 'minimal' and I might actually start liking Google!

Even Microsoft Live Search got rid of their beautiful interface become more 'minimalistic' to please the lovers of Google's disgustingly minimal user interface! :/ (although Microsoft did their 'minimal' design better, it's a shame Google's relevance in search results seems better).

what the hell crawled up your ass? lol

Their minimalistic design is one of the reasons Google is where it is today.

Unfortunately, yes.

I have no problems with where Google is today, I just don't understand why so many people like awful designs so much and why so many people do not find it ugly :s

Before they introduced themes, Gmail was even uglier!

Just that the design is so ugly :p

It's got to the point that I hate using Google Search it is that ugly, yet I choose to use it for the relevance of its results.

I think the new favicon shows potential for a nicer logo and even just a nicer design (although I know they wouldn't :/).

Look at cuil Search for an example of a nicer design. (I say nicer but I feel with those four colours, Google could make an even better design).

I don't see the problem with the google website or lives really. Theres a huge distinction to be made between minimalistic and ugly and they aren't mutually inclusive of one another.

I do think the new icon is as ugly as sin but. It doesn't match the site in the slightest. It wasn't until I got home that I even realised that there was a "g" there in the icon...all I saw were random blobs which didn't fit the sites white design.

edit: cJr, if your a firefox user you *may* be interested in the "Stylish" extension for firefox. It lets you apply style sheets to change the look and color of sites. Many of the templates are available for Google and may add a bit of spice to the page if you do truly detest it. I used to have a very nice dark navy blue background one at one point.

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, I've used Stylish scripts before but none were that good (although much better than Google's current design). I may check them out again and try a few :) Thank you for reminding me :)

Haha! I actually realised on my way to work I did not use a good example with the 'cuil' site. I hate dark designs most of the time and cuil is even worse with it's pure blackness.

I was thinking more along the lines of W3C XHTML Validator website, Facebook's design, or even Windows Live Wave 3 design. All are minimal enough and load up straight away, even on slow connections, yet they all look nice and are a pleasure to use (even though some could be better, these are just merely 'nice'). Google on the other hand, whilst very minimalistic is just ugly. It is pure white with a few horribly coloured blue links in random places.

What exactly is that? Some plant with blue leaves in a yellow pot, with some freaky green with red background?

edit: Oh, alright. With a little zoom in, I now see the white "g".

Pretty weird fav icon. I liked the previous blue one better. It was clear what you were looking at on high resolutions.

I like it compared to the one they recently changed it to (the plain lowercase "g"). I still like their old capital "G" logo in a box best, though, as it reminds me of the actual company logo.

I prefered the big G as well as it was instantly recognizable as the first G in "Google". I'm not sure why they chose the ocon they did here, I think it would be more effective if they only used the one colour as it'd make the "g" more easy to notice. My eyes were drawn to the colour, not the white space which I personally believe means the icon is sending out the wrong message.

Anyone got a link to the ICO? I'm trying to implement it into my Firefox search bar.

    • I don’t get why if I bought the game on the last get I needed to pay $40 to upgrade to the new version in the first place and people who love the game and play a lot would have upgraded already so this is just PR and a chance to grab new players who forgot the game long time ago I think
    • The term "use" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that headline. "Use" can mean opening ChatGPT occasionally to ask for the definition of a word or information about a specific topic. If you frame the question around how many people use it as a daily driver in their work or personal lives, that number is a lot smaller. Those are the people who pay for AI. Nearly everyone else is happy to use it for free, but doesn't see enough value in it to pay for it.
    • No support for Windows Hello!
    • I think you meant the "ntfs3" driver, but yes there have been a lot of fixes for it in this release and previous releases, not 100% sure if the issue you mentioned is fixed though. In any case, the new "ntfs" driver in 7.1 doesn't have that issue (at least, no reports of such have come thru), but your kernel needs to explicitly enable support for the new driver first (like how CachyOS kernel has it), and you need to edit your mount points in /etc/fstab to use "ntfs" instead of the other drivers.
    • Epic Games says Unreal Engine 6 will help developers "build content faster" using AI models by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Epic Games is rolling out the latest major update to Unreal Engine 5 today, and at the same time, the company also dropped some information on the next-generation version of the product, Unreal Engine 6. This was already revealed a few weeks ago alongside the new Rocket League upgrade reveal. The company says it is combining the features of Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fortnite to create this new version of its popular media creation tool. On top of creating entire games, the new engine will also focus on letting developers operate large-scale live service titles more easily, whether by shipping content into their own ecosystems or into Fortnite. The use of large language models is also mentioned here, with Epic saying it will be a core part of the engine. "We see LLMs, generative AI models, and tools like Claude and Codex playing a central role in helping you build content faster while maintaining the creative control you need," adds the company. Here is the rundown of what's new about version 6 of Unreal Engine: With all these changes to the programming model, portability upgrades, and generative AI integration, Epic says the new version of the engine will "change a lot about how games are made." The company aims to ship Unreal Engine 6 into early access in late 2027, with a full release planned for 12-18 months later. Epic Games also dropped a lengthy blog post about the new Unreal Engine 5.8 update for game developers over here. The release is focused on delivering better performance, customization, and streamlined workflows for development teams. This will be the final major update for this version of the engine before Epic switches to focus fully on Unreal Engine 6's early access launch.
