you cant pin specific folders to the taskbar?

dcoaster, yes i know that issue as you may call it, but im sure MS will have it fixed for full release... and if i have two folders open, libraries lets me pick which one, so its not really that bothersome.

kyller try the thing i did in the earlier post...

It will open Explorer to whatever folder you enter as the command line parameter to explorer.exe when you make the shortcut.

You can also create one for the "Computer" folder by creating a shortcut to "explorer.exe ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}" or one to the Recycle Bin by creating a shortcut to "explorer.exe ::{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}" and pinning that (you'll probably want to change the shortcut's icon too).

This needs rethinking. It's a dirty way to enable one click access to 'Computer'

Also, where's the one-click 'show desktop' ?

Right cleck>Toolbars>New Toolbar?

That's exactly what I would do normally ... in fact I've been doing it for years with my own group of folders with shortcuts that I have built up over time!

Now though, it just don't look right .. still works of course ..

thanks trying to help but I can't add 'link' for folder in Windows Explorer's Jumplist... what I have to do?

I found a solution elsewhere on this forum. Right-click on the taskbar, open properties and go the start menu tab. Make sure both boxes under privacy are ticked - only having the bottom one ticked stops you adding folders to Explorer's jumplist for some reason. You can now drag folders/libraries from Explorer to the icon and they will be added to the list.

Don't you think thats totally ill thought out Brandon?

Do you think my mom could do the above? No she couldn't.

To me, logically, when I drag the Computer to the taskbar, I expect it to make a shortcut to Computer...not add it to Explorers jumplist.

Terrible terrible terrible.

Couldn't possibly disagree more.

The taskbar is not for documents. It is for applications and windows. The Jump List is there for pinning documents, and is much better at it. I hear there may be some improvements coming to make it clearer what happens when you drag a document to the taskbar, though right now it should already pop open the Jump List so you see where it went. The drag overlay also says "Pin to <insert app name>" so you know what it's going to do.

Worked ! Thanks a lot, Damarr!!

The Taskbar is not for documents.

Right. Despite the fact I've been able to put document short cuts on the taskbar for the past 10 years. Thats besides the point though. I'm not talking about a document. I'm talking about a short cut on the taskbar to a folder or place.

My mom has all her important shortcuts on her taskbar: Computer / User files / Documents. She flips between them with ease. Your now telling me that in Windows 7 she'd have to keep hitting the explorer shortcut and pulling up to get the jump list, then selecting her shortcut.

Essentially tripling the time it'd take her to-do that.

Edit: BTW I know she could put the shortcuts she needs on the left bar in explorer, but thats not how she works. Its not how I work either. I like Computer pinned to my taskbar and it should be easy to-do.

Perhaps right clicking a shortcut on the jumplist could give an option to pin it to the taskbar separately.
