how can i restore the windows 7 bootloader?

i had to reinstall windows XP because of some issues, can i get windows 7 to boot back somehow? thx!!

I remember that you could boot from the Vista DVD and repair the bootloader. Should probably work with the Windows 7 DVD in a similar fashion.

get the dvd. when you get to the second screen (after you choose your language) go to repair your computer.

go to command prompt and type this in without the quotes (") :

"bootrec /fixmbr"

press enter.

Type this in without the quotes (") :

"bootrec /FixBoot"

press enter.

Restart.

????

I have a similar-ish problem, except with Vista. Dual-booting 7 with Vista has an odd side effect (for me at least) every time you boot Vista it takes over the bootloader and replaced the 7 startup screen with the Vista one! (you know the green progress bar instead of "Starting Windows") only way I can fix it is to do a repair boot option on the 7 DVD. However, next time you start Vista it does it again! anyone know how to make 7 keep it's boot screen? anyone got this problem?? (I have reported this "issue" to MS as well in case your woundering, doing my part!)

To get back the Windows 7 start up screen:

From within Windows 7

Right Click on the Command prompt icon and choose "Run as Administrator"

Type

bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US

Hit enter.

The Windows startup should be back when you reboot.

Do a back up of your work then do a clean install or otherwise it'll be nothing short of an abortion when it comes to stability, reliability and security.
