Does anyone from the staff ever read these posts?

I am wondering that now, wish we could get some kind of feedback :(

Just had to wait over a minute for a thread to refresh and had to then wait another 30 seconds to get the thread to refresh with the add post box so I could post in a thread....

I take it it's a hosting issue and not a routing issue?

I suspect it may have something to do with the banner at the top of the page, which has not shown anything for quite some time. At least on my PC.

I turned off my web ads blocker for the Maxthon browser I use and the ad shows up now in the banner but it still not opening the page correctly so that wasn't it. I also noticed if I move my cursor over the topics at the top of the page (control panel - main - forums - blogs - etc) they all drop down and stay there. Now thats weird and possibly indicates a proplem with the main page display.

Maybe the site was attacked and they though they had it fixed but there is still corruption in the code.

I thought everything was fixed but as I tried to type this post the browser froze several times and then when I went to post what I had written my post dissapeared. Then I had to deal with a frozen browser even to close pages and log out. This time I'm on Opera and things seem better, So its an Explorer thing. Never the less its very irritating and soon after signing on I want to sign off in frustration. Unless they fix it they are definately going to lose new subscribers if not chase away present ones who use Explorer or Explorer based browsers..

Don't you just love how the moderators jump in here and say "we are aware of the problem and are working on it!".

It would appear that they don't care?

I hope they do care I really do, because in its current state Neowin is almost unusable for me. It would be nice to have input from an admin / coder regarding the Forum :/

I do as well but after 39 posts without even a response from staff, it kind of makes you wonder.

Boy , I must have gone completely bonkers for awhile. Next thing your going to tell me is that there have been no posts removed.

Hmmm, I make a mistake, It is noticed almost immediately. But yet there still in no response to the original problem. :argh:

Yes, but it seems to be YOUR problem. Everyone else here is saying the site flies for them.

read the posts that are saying the same thing I am. But we are al whiners according to you anyway.

Same here and the site is rendering very strangely.

Read this one

Yes, I'm having the same problem :(

I don't know if this is related but when I am on the main page, I get the error page that comes up when the site goes down telling you to goto the IRC, I refresh and it goes away. I click on a link to go else where on Neowin, and I get the same error, refresh and back to normal.

This one

Just wanted to add that I am getting a few IPS Driver errors as well, just within the last 5 minutes. I even had one in the recent forum activity area.

This one.

Apologize in advance for bumping an old thread if I shouldn't have, its not that old.

Last few days, about a week or more even maybe, browsing Neowin forums has been a struggle. It seems fine and super fast bout 70% of the time, but then I just get pages that take foreverrrr to load, load all messed up with no formatting if they do, or just get this timeout error, constantlyyyyyyyyyyy.

Connection Interrupted

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

I've tried adjusting different stuff in Firefox, no pipelining, ipv6 on and off, no adjusting of connection limits, and just using another browser entirely, Google Chrome (official version not the dev version) and IE8 (that ships in Win7 beta). Having exact same problem in every browser no matter what I do.

Before say check firewall/network settings, I have, and, Neowin is the ONLY site I have this problem with.

Its becoming reallyyyy irritating.

This one and the ones that were in fact removed.

No, this would be a problem, as opposed to a lifestyle choice.

This one and the ones that were in fact removed.

I'm sure you'll blame the MSM, but no posts were removed from this thread recently.

Why can't you stay on point. The slowness and unresponsiveness of this forum has nothing to do with the MSM or anyone lifestyle. I don't even know what the hell you are talking about there. I do know that myself and others get IPB errors at times of the day. The site is slow to load. There are problems , but all that Neowin has done since the original report is to stick their head in the sand. Since there has not been a reply after 40 posts, that is all I can believe that Neowin is doing. Now try to stay on topic and explain why?

1. There was not a single reply for weeks.

2. The problem exists and not just on my end, as other sites I visit work fine.

Site is ok here and was ok for the last few weeks...

Stop downloading porn/torrent and it will be ok...

What's MSM? Google found: methyl sulfonyl methane :p

Sorry but I don't do that, I don't even have a client to download a torrent with.

BTW: All of the complaints were not from me and they are intermittent.

Even if there would be 100 complains, that don't mean that Neowin the site itself have problems you know.

That can mean that there is few persons that download like crazy, few persons that have trouble with their PC (Malwares), few person that have trouble with their ISPs, that few problems have occurred between their ISP and the ISP that give IP to the Host that host Neowin, that could mean that the server could have got too many request at that time, and there many other reasons that could happens and that is impossible to fix for Neowin, since they are not from them.

You act like EVERY TIME there is a bug, and someone complain, it's the fault of Neowin.

Sorry, but this is not the case... I would says that 90% of slowdowns and bugs on a site are not actually happening on the site's server.

    • GitHub removes manual model selection from Copilot free and student plans by Karthik Mudaliar GitHub is removing the ability to manually select an AI model from its Copilot Free and Student plans, making its automatic routing system the default and only way to choose a model. This means users on these tiers will no longer be able to deliberately select a particular OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or Microsoft model for a task. In its announcement, GitHub said Copilot Auto will dynamically choose what it considers the best model for each request. Free and Student accounts will retain access to models from multiple families, although the available selection will continue to depend on the restrictions attached to each plan. GitHub did not identify a fixed pool of models that Auto will always use, and its documentation warns that model availability can change over time. GitHub describes Auto as more than a random fallback system. On supported surfaces, its task-optimization technology evaluates the complexity of a request alongside real-time information about model health and availability. Straightforward prompts can be routed to faster and less expensive models, while more demanding coding tasks may be sent to higher-cost reasoning models. The company says this approach should reduce rate limiting, latency, and failed requests. Auto generally selects one model along natural prompt-caching boundaries rather than repeatedly switching models during a session, as GitHub found that mid-session changes increased costs without producing sufficient improvements in output quality. Users can still check which model generated a response. In Copilot Chat, the information appears when hovering over an answer, while Copilot CLI and the Copilot cloud agent display the selected model alongside their output. Auto is available in Copilot Chat, Copilot CLI, and the cloud agent, with the exact implementation and release status varying between supported development environments. The latest restriction follows several months of adjustments to Copilot’s individual plans. GitHub temporarily halted new Pro, Pro+, and Student subscriptions in April as it sought to manage demand and service reliability. It later introduced token-based billing and began gradually reopening individual-plan registrations on June 17. Alongside the picker change, GitHub is retiring the “Preview” label from Microsoft-developed models. It argues that the label is no longer necessary because Auto handles model routing and models are continuously updated behind the scenes.

    • Google reportedly set to lose two key Gemini and DeepMind researchers to Anthropic by Karthik Mudaliar Google is reportedly preparing to lose two more prominent artificial intelligence researchers, with Gemini contributors Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel planning to join rival AI developer Anthropic. According to a report from Bloomberg, both researchers are viewed internally as important contributors to Google’s flagship Gemini model family. Adler worked on Google’s AI coding efforts, while Pritzel was involved in the process used to train AI systems. Neither company has publicly confirmed the moves. The report also does not say when the researchers will formally leave Google or what positions they will hold at Anthropic. Training a large AI model requires decisions covering its architecture, data preparation, distributed computing infrastructure, and post-training methods that shape how the finished system behaves. Researchers with experience operating at the scale of Gemini are consequently difficult to replace quickly. Both Adler and Pritzel have previously contributed to Google DeepMind’s scientific research as well. They are listed among the authors of the company’s work on expanding AlphaFold protein-structure predictions across entire proteomes, alongside AlphaFold researchers including John Jumper. The reported departures arrive shortly after another important change within Google’s Gemini organization. Gemini co-lead Noam Shazeer is leaving Google for OpenAI, after returning to the search company in 2024 through its deal with Character.AI. Shazeer is particularly well known as one of the authors of the Transformer paper, whose architecture became the foundation for most modern large language models. Anthropic, meanwhile, has been recruiting recognizable figures from other leading laboratories. OpenAI co-founder and former Tesla AI director Andrej Karpathy joined Anthropic’s pre-training team in May. His move, followed by the reported recruitment of several Google researchers, suggests Anthropic is strengthening the research teams responsible for the core capabilities of future Claude models rather than concentrating solely on product and enterprise sales. The competition is complicated by the companies’ extensive commercial relationships. Anthropic competes directly with Google’s Gemini models, but it also relies on Google as an infrastructure partner. In April, Anthropic announced an expanded agreement with Google and Broadcom covering multiple gigawatts of next-generation Tensor Processing Unit capacity.
