Installing Windows XP on ASUS F3Ke notebook

Recommended Posts

hey guys

first of all, i'm not sure if this is posted in the correct place

if not, please feel free to move it to where it should go

so, here is my question

I have a notebook here, ASUS F3Ke, that I bough like half a year ago

it has Vista installed

and after using it for around half year, I really can't get used to it and would like to install XP in it rather than having Windows Vista

now I have basically two questions:

1. on the ASUS webpage, I cannot find the drivers for WinXP, only for Vista

has someone installed XP on this notebook and got it working?

I've heard that the drivers provided by ASUS in their webpage for Vista also work for Windows XP

has someone actually tried it?

2. My NB has a small partition where it has the ghost images for recovering the PC to the initial state when it was bought

so, my HDD has three partitions, C and D, which can be seen in Windows

and another hidden partition, where the files for recovering are (it can't be seeing under computer management though)

if I install XP, will this partition be deleted?

what if I cannot make XP run correctly? can I roll back to Vista?

When I bought the NB, it had a recovery CD. Would this do the same as the partition for recovery? and is it that no matter what, I can recover my PC through the CD? would this CD create a partition with the recover files if I accidentally delete it?

there are pretty much questions

thank you for reading

and hope someone can help me out here

Thank you again

You'll be able to do it with drivers from ASUS' site. I formatted/installed XP Pro SP3 on a brand new Asus laptop just after Christmas.

The CD would return it to how it came from the factory with Vista installed.

by "you'll be able to do it with drivers from ASUS' site", you mean that those drivers work for XP?

oh, and btw

what about the utilities ASUS has?

for example

ASUS NB Probe

ASUS Live Update Utility

POWER4 GEAR eXtreme Utility

MultiFrame Utility

ASUS IP Switch Utility

NB Software Kit Utility

ASUS Data Security Manager Utility

POWER4 GEAR eXtreme Utility

PowerForPhone Utility

InstantFun Application

SPLENDID Utility

ATK Generic Function UTILITY

Keyboard Device Filter Utility

Life Frame Utility

Windows BIOS Flash Utility

Wireless Console Utility

ATK_MEDIA Utility

does someone know how to get those for XP?

or do the ones from VISTA work in XP?

thank you very much again

hey guys

I have another question

my laptop has a hidden partition that has all the files for resetting the NB to its initial state.

I have also a Recovery Disk that came with my NB.

My question is, for example, if I delete this partition accidentally or on purpose while formatting the NB and installing XP,

will I be able to recover my NB to its initial state using only the Recovery Disk?

If yes, will it create this partition again after recovering?

Or is it that I will have to do all future recoveries with my disk and won't be able to do it with the hidden partition anymore?

thank you very much

Hello,

I've readed the laptop manual, avaible in the Asus web[1]; and it recommends not delete the hidden partition. It says that it will not be recovered althoug you use the recovery CD. In addition, it explains that if you remove this partition and cannot recover the system, you will take your laptop to the Official Asus Support Team.

mmm, this advise can seem exaggerated, but it is only that the manual says.

Bye.

P.S.: Excuse me english...

It will always say that. Its a recovery partition and the adverage Joe user wont know how to format etc, so they give you this recovery partition to make it easy to restore.

If you know what your doing, then you can delete.
