Phillips 42"

Recommended Posts

Ok, we're about to move and I AM getting a new HDTV. I was trying to stay in the $700 to $800 dollar range and came across this: http://zi.ma/695550

It is a Phillips 42" HDTV Full 1080p LCD TV. Our local Circuit City is going out of business and the same TV is on "sale" for 1049.99. Was just curious if anyone had any experience with this brand of TV.

Yes -- I own a Philips HDTV. [model 42PFL5603D]

It has many flaws.

Annoying info 'bars' cover up faces when you change channels.

If you want to select Menu to make adjustments to the picture or sound, the whole screen is covered over.

The Menu controls are cumbersome.

It had an issue of turning itself on & off at random.

Philips finally corrected the problem in Oct. '08 -- you have to download and flash the firmware, via USB drive.

Another major problem is the 'Automatic' picture format does not work as it should.

You must switch from 4:3 to other sizes, depending on if the channel is hi-def.

I was happier with my Vizio -- but it went belly-up. :/

Good luck with your choice of HDTV.
