jason13524
Hi, I have installed Vista fine on a Dell Optiplex GX280 and am now trying to install it on the newer model, a GX520. The problem is that the Vista gets to completing installation then hangs, apparently this is because it needs a SATA chipset driver. Anyone know where I can get an Optiplex GX520 (ICH7) Vista SATA chipset driver. Its the driver you need when you press F6 on install. And no Dell's site don't list them but they do list the above as Vista compatible. http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topic...nki=0&s=gen

RadishTM Veteran Posted January 25, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 25, 2009 I don't know if you are using 32/64-bit, so here are both - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Des...32〈=eng http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Des...64〈=eng Give them a shot. Vista has a AHCI SATA driver built into the setup, providing AHCI is enabled in the BIOS. And the INF drivers in ZIP format - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Des...64〈=eng Radish? jason13524
I have a SATA to PATA convertor so could I install Vista with this, with all the updates etc then put the SATA cable back in. Will that work?
RadishTM Veteran Posted January 25, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 25, 2009 Can you opt not to use AHCI and use IDE emulation in the BIOS instead? The drives will then show up as PATA drives for Vista's setup. Radish?
jason13524
It doesn't list that on a GX520 only combination - this mode provides for compatibility with some older operating systems that do not support SATA. I have tried this and it didn't work :-(
jason13524
My bios is A05 and A11 has been released. In the 6 newer bios's it shows Vista readiness, and SATA updates etc So will give this a go tomorrow.
