Release notes(highlights)

OlsonData 2008i

This release contains Olson time zone data version 2008i. For more information, refer to Timezone Data Versions in the JRE Software

This release provides a new Java Plug-in that combines features of applet and Java Web Start technologies, a new Direct3D pipeline for Microsoft platforms, an updated documentation bundle.

64-Bit Browser Support for Java Plugin and Java Webstart

This release supports the New Java Plugin and Java Webstart on AMD64 architecture, on Windows platforms. A Java offline installer (JRE and JDK) is provided.

Note 1: if you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers interchangeably, you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit JREs in order to have Java Plug-In for both browsers.

Note 2: Firefox does not have a 64-bit version for Solaris yet. Therefore, the current 6u12 builds will only provide 64-bit Java Plug-In in Windows and Linux platforms. 64-bit version of Solaris is still available but will be without Java Plug-In and Java Webstart support. Solaris users can install the 32-bit version to get the Java Plug-In and Webstart support.

As of this release, Windows Server 2008 is supported.

Java Control Panel still has these 3 bugs:

- it's impossible to disable the automatic updates because the checkbox option doesn't remain saved

- it's impossible to disable Java for IE7 because the checkbox option is not enabled

- Java Control Panel is not shown in Vista's Control Panel under "Additional Options"

I didn't had these bugs the last time I used Vista x86-64.

2nd download link takes you to version 11. Is the JRE in the first download link the one to get? Do i need the kernel installation file too that is linked on the JRE download page?

I did try and run java itself and autoupdate but it says I have the current version. (Version 6 Update 11 (build 1.6.0_11-b03))

The issue is that the Control Panel applet needs to be run with admin priviledges. If you manually run as admin you can change the settings. :)

    • Not the deal that 2nd hand purchasers tend to look for - no.  It's cheaper than the sum of it's parts new - yes.  But people looking for 2nd hand, pre-built computers are rarely looking for what you are selling. Don't misunderstand; as an informed enthusiast I like that computer, and as an informed enthusiast I am often asked "My son wants a gaming PC and here's my budget" - in which case, as an informed enthusiast I would totally point them in this sort of direction.  But I am not the mass market, hence you may well have to wait longer for a sale. If you're looking for speed - then breaking it into parts is likely to pay off better on that front, as there will be more people who suit that market and their likelihood of buying 2nd hand is more fruitful.  But - chore!
    • What is the purpose of this article? You didn't even mention that CPU is powering it, so we don't know what GPU/iGPU it has. We don't know if the memory is on chip, on the motherboard, is expandable or replaceable. And that's only the internals. Display type, resolution, brightest you didn't even mention the DPI. Without one or more if these capabilities no one who reads these strung together words will know if they should or shouldn't buy it. The only HINT is from the sticker on the photo of the laptop. Q: what do you get for wasting people's time? Their must be some value or you wouldn't have wasted your time either.
    • That is some storage. I have an old F4-210 and it works well for what it is, just a shame Terramaster will not update the software for it.
    • More than €1,000 cheaper than buying all the components new, PLUS most items have a receipt, and in some cases still have warranty is not a deal??
