"Moonlight, the open source implementation of Silverlight for Unix systems has officially reached its 1.0 level. We are feature complete, we pass all the Microsoft regression test suites and we shipped support for Microsoft's Media Pack for x86 and x86-64 architectures.

Moonlight is available as a Firefox plugin that can be installed with a single click from the moonlight download page."

wjhy would you need that? isnt silverlight good enough?

Competition is good, it fosters innovation -- well it's supposed to -- and regardless two applications that do the same thing are better; one is closed source and one is open source.

Because Silverlight is a Microsoft trademark that only Microsoft can use. Moonlight is made by a third party.

I've tried it out though, and it works just fine (for 1.0 stuff anyway), including video and everything. Couldn't be simpler to install either. Here's hoping they get 2.0 out by the end of the year (although that will require Mono).
