Remembering folder views "Fixed" in Windows 7?

Recommended Posts

One of the things I hated about Vista was that folders never seemed to Remember folder views.

Well I have been running Windows 7 for a while now and I have yet to see this issue show its ugly face :)

Has Microsoft confirmed this was fixed in Windows 7 or am I just lucky for not seeing it yet?

edit not fixed!! :(

It's fixed, apart from search folders whereby you have to explicilty go to the folder and view option and apply to all folders. This would mean all search folders will have the same view.

Not fixed in libraries at least.

I should mention that this is in public beta build 7000.

(It's really irritating when it crops up. My Vista installation trashed all my folder views to inappropriate values last night.)

Well I am running Windows 7 Build 7022 and have yet to see thi nasty bug sure its self.

Exactly, not fixed in library.

I had 3 links in my desktop from the library and I was going mental, thinking I had the same Vista bug. So I tried the Vista fix (registry thing) and of course it didn't work. Later I found it's just the library cause normal link to real folder are ok and the OS remember the folder the settings.

So everything seems fine if you don't use the library.

Is Microsoft aware of this bug and are they planning on fixing it before Windows 7 goes Final?

I didn't made a feed for this.

Anyway, I just tried again to be sure of the bug, and yes is definitely here. If you want to replicate:

Go into Document library. If a subfolder inside your document library has a specific view settings - like big thumbnails - it will just be seen with the default view you have for the Doc library. Viceversa, if you set a picture preview setting for a subfolder inside your lib, all the lib turn with this setting.

If it's by design, I don't see the point.

Didn't notice it either this far - I'm not using libraries though, as I have no use for them.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about. The rare "forgetting folder settings" bug was fixed.

Libraries have a different view model that most people prefer. There are some improvements to the way By Folder works after the beta that are based on user feedback (including people on this forum). In the other Arrange By views changes are remembered for that view. So if you change the By Song view to have different columns, they'll stay that way. The only thing it won't remember is if you change By Album to be stacked by something other than Album, as that would be very confusing and get you into a weird state.

What does that mean? You don't have documents, music, pictures, or videos on your machine?

Not sure if you are talking about the same thing some of us here are.

For example if you go into the "documents folder" and then change the view in one of folders in the "documents folder" then all folders will share the same size icons.

This was not changed fixed?

All other folder views outside of "documents folder" seems to been fixed for the better!

Do you mean the Documents Library? Yes then I believe what you're describing is by design, and something I thought most people here would appreciate. You set your view settings once and they're remembered for all of the Documents Library (including all the sub-locations).

I'm really confused. In one thread people are complaining when Windows doesn't remember their view settings, and in another people are complaining when it does?

Yes, there's a registry fix for it. I found it on some blog, but I forget where.

Just searched Google... I'm sure I got it from here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/11/08/d...lt-clean-state/

I believe it links to the forum where you have to register which I did. You could probably find it elsewhere, too.

I think what people want I know I do at least anyway is to be able to have every folders view saved. So for example one folder I may want Large icons view and another folder I may want details views.

I am glad this is fixed for all folders now in Windows 7.

Except of course the "Documents Library" Folder and sub folders which does not have this feature.

I hope its not to late for Microsoft to fix the Remember folder views issue for the "Documents Library" Folder and sub folders also!

Libraries are this way by design.

all documents library folders/views will use the "document" view you set up for the document library. While the music library will use and remember how you set up your music library view, while the video library, of course, will use a video centric view and remember changes you make to them.

this makes sense, meanwhile while you browse your folders regularly they will remember the folder view settings independently. So if you want to view one document folder differently, navigate it manually outside of the library.

Download fix Remember Folder Views for Vista! http://rapidshare.com/files/200056780/Reme..._Vista_Hack.zip

This bug I'd still ongoing! I got it now in vista. You would think it would be officially fixed by now. I go in and out of a folder of pics a few times, 4th time I go in it's turned to details view. Brings my **** to a boil.

It's not fixed because it's difficult to reproduce. If you can figure out a way to cause it to happen intentionally please post it. I'm sure Brandon and the rest of the shell team would love to get rid of this defect. :)

(My Vista "Uninstall Programs" currently thinks it's a video folder. :p)

    • I don;t think I would trust it, seeing the mistakes all these AI are making.l
    • I'm stumped people think DEI is just a quota and nothing else.
    • Microsoft's AI is highly effective for identifying targets on the battlefield or for firing a lot of workers. 🫤
    • Microsoft AI diagnoses complex medical cases four times better than human doctors by Paul Hill Microsoft AI has revealed that its AI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO) is able to correctly diagnose 85% of complex cases from the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) case proceedings. What makes this more impressive is that the cases published in NEJM are very diagnostically complex and intellectually demanding. They typically require multiple specialists and diagnostic tests to reach a definitive diagnosis, so the fact AI can get it right most of the time is a big deal. The MAI-DxO turns language models into a virtual panel of clinicians that is able to ask follow-up questions, order tests, or deliver diagnoses. MAI-DxO boosted the diagnostic performance of every model that was tested by Microsoft, with the best results when it was paired with OpenAI’s o3. When MAI-DxO was using o3, it was able to correctly solve 85.5% of NEJM benchmark cases. Microsoft compared this to humans; it took 21 practicing physicians from the US and UK with 5-20 years of clinical experience, and on the same tasks, they achieved a mean accuracy of just 20% across completed cases. Microsoft believes that these tools can significantly shake up healthcare by empowering patients to self-manage routine aspects of care and equipping clinicians with advanced decision support for complex cases. To find out how AI would perform on the NEJM cases, Microsoft had to create the Sequential Diagnosis Benchmark (SD Bench) which transforms 304 recent NEJM cases into stepwise diagnostic encounters. Models can then iteratively ask questions and order tests. As new information becomes available, the model will update its reasoning and gradually move toward a final diagnosis which can be compared to what was published in the NEJM. As mentioned before, the MAI-DxO system emulates a virtual panel of physicians that is able to ask follow-up questions, order tests, or deliver diagnoses. Aside from this, it can operate within defined cost constraints to help prevent excessive testing. While Microsoft’s experiment is showing very promising results, this research is just a first step. Before generative AI can be used safely in healthcare scenarios, more evidence needs to be gathered from real clinical environments. There also need to be appropriate governance and regulatory frameworks to make sure models are reliable and safe. To accomplish all of this, Microsoft is partnering with health organizations to test and validate its approaches before any broader rollout.
