Also for cheaters,

Killzone 2 Cheaters Could Lose Their PSN ID

Cheating, lag switches and ?glitching? have become commonplace in online gaming. A good developer who supports their games online community, will do their best to prevent these forms of cheating.

Guerrilla Games has just announced on their twitter, that cheaters could lose their PSN ID, and online gaming privileges. That alone should be enough to deter anyone who looks to use underhanded techniques to win online.

So if you cheat, be prepared for the ban hammer?

@TheXFrame Glitchers risk losing their PSN ID altogether. We've been quite lenient so far but that's going to change.

It's nothing like pc's where you can use codes and aim bots, cheating on consoles requires you to find a glitch and then exploit it. Either with the actual design of the game like finding a way under a map, or using hardware to put other players at the disadvantage (standby-ing) with their connection.

Hardware cheating is the easy one to solve if you know the signs to detect it. Glitches are solved by patches and they could be under lying for months/years before they are discovered or solved.

Patch is now up, changes above, but here they are again

-Increase of the standard points settings for Bodycount. Should ensure longer mode on heavily populated games.

-The return of Online Bots. Adding bots to an online game renders it ‘unranked’.

-The option to create unranked games. Players will be made aware that a game is unranked upon joining.

-Fix to Game Search functionality so correct maps are displayed.

-Standardization of the Y-Axis controls on the HGH Scout when zoomed with the Sniper Rifle.

-Fix to Sensitivity setting where the weapon animation did not follow the reticule correctly.

-Fix for auto-aim exploit when rapidly tapping zoom/fire.

-Fix to infrequent collision issues with C4 Proximity mines.

-Fix to list of games displayed on search.

-Stability fix relating to disconnect.

-Fix to ‘Clan’ button functionality in custom game creation settings.

We are also working on the next updates and here are some of the areas we are exploring and investigating for the future patches:

-Improving game and network stability.

-Collision exploits on maps.

-Improvements to help play with friends.

-More game creation options.

-More game options for clans.

-Fixes to Clans unexpectadly losing tournament rounds.

-Other minor fixes.

GUERRILLA RESPONDS TO LACK OF PARTY SYSTEM

Guerrilla Games Senior Online Games Designer, Erik Boltjes responds to the massive petition for a party system in Killzone 2.

Earlier this week, we reported of a petition going around the Killzone.com forums which was asking for a party system to be implemented. This morning, we received a response from Guerrilla Games Senior Online Games Designer, Erik Boltjes.

In response to why KZ2 is lacking a party system/ playing with friends:

"Hey guys,I totally agree with you; we should have a friends-party

system. Unfortunately due to reasons I cannot go into here, it isn’t

as easy as ’just implement it!’. We are however investigating what we

can do to resolve this obviously missing functionality.Keep on

fragging!"

Several members of the forums asked if they could go to Insomniac for help, seeing as how Resistance has one of the best party systems around.

In response to asking insomniac for help with a party system:

"It has nothing to do with sharing resources or the PS3 not being able

to handle party systems. It has to do with us supporting spectators

and the way we have implemented how that works. Basically we shot

ourselves in the foot. But I cannot go into technical detail but again,

rest assured, your concerns have been noted and we are trying to find

a fix!"

Thanks for the update Mark, much appreciated.

Want to discuss this further? Would you prefer to have spectating, or the ability to have a pre-game party system, like Call of Duty 4? Post your comments below, or if you prefer, you can post in the forums here.

    • For me, the fundamental problems with these "smartglasses" is that they really don't work well for people with significant prescriptions and massively up the price if you use attached lenses if they have displays, and if they don't, then they're not actually "smart" anything, rather just connecting to your phone and relaying voice to an AI. In a few cases like this, they throw in small cameras to feed video to the AI. All around, these feel like both a solution looking for a problem, and the problems it tries to solve seem more easily solved by different approaches and designs. Oddly, if the rumours are true, Apple may actually have invented something for once and it kind of does this right: put cameras in ear buds and manage the interface to AI exactly as most of us do: tapping on an ear bud and saying "Hey Google" or "Hey Siri." That makes them compatible with almost everyone, can double up as a hearing assist device, an impaired vision assist device, a "smart" device... and answer your phone and play music. That just seems like a better solution all around.
    • Usually the bigger ones with many fixes/changes take a few, theyre an exception to the rule most likely
    • If you don’t get lucky with Valve’s Steam Machine reservation system, you can make your own Steam Machine instead. Valve says that “starting with the SteamOS 3.8 release, you can put together your own Steam Machine using whatever PC parts you want.” SteamOS 3.8.10 launched last week with a slew of updates, including “improved compatibility with recent Intel and AMD platforms.” Alongside that improved compatibility, Valve is giving gamers the green light to install SteamOS on their own desktops. In an interview with The Verge, Valve’s Pierre-Loup Griffais said Valve has been “rolling out improvements to [SteamOS] so it’s more compatible with desktop hardware,” including eventual support for Nvidia graphics. Griffais says Valve has “a growing team” working on Nvidia driver support for SteamOS, adding, “We’re collaborating with Nvidia very closely.” While he mentioned that Nvidia support might not come this year, Griffais emphasized that “it’s certainly something that we’re working on in the background.”     Subscription not needed: https://archive.fo/Tssfc Subscription needed: https://www.theverge.com/games/953411/valve-steamos-desktop-nvidia
    • I thought they were supposed to reduce the amount of restarts needed to install these updates? It took 3 restarts to install this update...
    • I know an idiot at work who is "Director for innovation projects" and inevitably has been tasked with following up on this whole trend of "AI and its work applicability". He recently sent out a survey on the topic, for the workforce to disclose their usage and attitudes towards AI. The survey was badly, sloppily typed out, the questions and answers (when multiple choices) were loosely correlated and, all and all, it would already be miserable in the times of MS Office Autocorrect alone. Then, I had AI responding to it all (on the open-ended questions) with beautiful, to-the-point prose after I provided it with minor but proper guidance, taking me under 10 minutes. All this to say that I am sure that if AI comes to replace someone, it will still be me, and the other idiot will still stay.
