I am enjoying the heck out of testing build 7048. So far, so good.

The only issue I have seen (and I haven't check my submitted bugs yet) is that the video driver for my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop is not working. My laptop uses an Mobile Intel GM965 Express Chipset. It's the same problem I had with the x86 and x64 versions of build 7000 and 7022. I have to use the "Standard VGA driver". Otherwise I get a wacked out plasma-like display with off colors that is very hard to read. I have tried ever driver under the sun, from Intel, from Dell, for Vista (all versions), using Administrator, using compatibility mode, you name it. The driver that came with Win7 and the one that is on Windows Update do not work. I opened problem tickets with Dell and Intel but both responded that Windows 7 is not supported yet. Such is the life of a beta tester. If anyone has loaded 7048 x64 on a Inspiron 1525 and the video driver works, please let me know the driver version and firmware number. Thanks.

Here's a photo of the wacked out plasma-like display. Anybody got any ideas?

Missing graphics driver on an old Intel graphics chip. Back when I was inexperienced, I tried running Vista beta 1 on an HP 753n and it was no different. Except mine looked more like a zombie display than it did a wacked out display like yours. So look for a graphics driver that works on Vista, install it as an Administrator AND have it run under Vista or Vista SP1 compatibility mode.

Thanks but I have been there, done that.

I am making a bootable ISO DVD now. Here's what you need to do....

<snip>

You must be really bored to waste that much time on it

That's also valid for the other longwinded instructions to create a bootable Dvd.

All you actually need is CL-Tools4Win from Camtech2000 (Freeware), which includes CD Image4Win.

Simply choose the folder with the files, where to save the .iso, and activate the "Boot" option, selecting "Vista Ultimate".

Worked fine here

I am bored, I'm on disability leave. I had a liver transplant back in October.

There are many ways to create a bootable UDF ISO. Thanks for your input as well. :)

There, didn't I know it.

I'm on disability leave. I had a liver transplant back in October.

Hope you're all better soon again :)

No problem, thought it would come in handy.

Also - yes, it is indeed real

Installed it..WEI for HDD is low as usual. Disabling Write Caching doesn't work anymore though..

My HDD score stayed the same (5.9) but my gaming graphics dropped a lot....from 6.7 down to 6.0, not sure why. Could be due to running Vista drivers on Win7, guess I'll have to wait till 9.3 cats to get a better measurement.

Nice! I am grabbing 32bit now. I have a quad core but originally installed a 32bit copy and want to upgrade. When final comes I will probably install the 64bit.

Having a quad core has nothing to do with it. People mainly focus on memory when looking at 32-bit vs. 64-bit.

My average was 142 kB/s

My average was 310 kB/s.

Same here, my Gaming Graphics took a similar nose dive from 6.9 to 6.0 :pinch:

Catalyst 9.2 installed on 7000 and 7048.

Eventually I'd like to have over 3gb of ram so I will want to upgrade. Either way 64 bit is the future.

I agree completely. I run 64 bit on all of my machines. The way you phrased it, I wasn't sure if you were thinking that there was a difference between 32-bit and 64-bit functionality on a quad core CPU.

    • Still hate Windows 11, I stuck it on my gaming machine again just for a nose to see what they had done, still as bad. Will restore Windows 10 back on it, suit MS anyway, they don't want me to run Windows 11 on it.
    • Ms did go with the you must sign into an account thing with Windows 8 for a while. The same sort of thing they are doing with Windows now and the MS account.
    • Hello, What sort of Microsoft Authenticator account login approval requests are you getting?  It is a generic authentication app and can be used with all sorts of services (Microsoft Account, Google Account, websites and services that support multi-factor authentication, etc.). • Windows 8? Nah. I found Window 8 worked well, get a third party start menu to get rid of the start screen, I used Start is back and windows 8 was pretty good. I used it even when Windows 10 came out as I found Windows 10 was iffy on my machine at the time was AMD FX Bulldozer based. It was only when I updated the innards to Ryzen that I had no choice but to go to Windows 10 as MS made it difficult to stay with Windows 8. ME, yes, that was not great, I liked the look of it, but it was not stable, shame really because Windows 98SE was the best of the dos based Windows.
