afuchi
Well, the connection problems can be solved by a driver upgrade from the devicemanager (in my case atleast). Hopefully the freezing will be gone though, because that is really problematic. I installed newer driver at morning, before work..if i get home i'll check how it's working :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/743894-windows-7-build-7048-discussion-and-bugs/page/7/#findComment-590685704 Share on other sites

Dannydeman
Good news for me: The 7048 x86 version works perfect. No WIFI problems at all, and no random freezes anymore. This also means I will never go back to x64. I never bothered with 64bit in Vista, and won't do this in Windows 7. Maybe in the next version of Windows :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/743894-windows-7-build-7048-discussion-and-bugs/page/7/#findComment-590689490 Share on other sites
madhopsman
So far, 7048 x86 has seemed perkier than 7000 or 7022. Two things that stand out to me: My laptop fails to come back out of hibernate. No more progress bar on IE downloads! :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/743894-windows-7-build-7048-discussion-and-bugs/page/7/#findComment-590689832 Share on other sites

Dannydeman
The most recent benchmark of the X86 build shows the HDD speeds are pretty messed up. Very slow.. But I didn't notice that myself though. Ahh well, if RC1 comes out, we can just upgrade. #Michael
These are my thoughts. The more I use win7 the more it seems to grow on me. At first I was very disappointed in it. I was asked to be in the beta and while I have been part of it, it has not lived up to what I thought it would be. What I don't like: -Firefox/superbar/min/max/close continues to flicker, go away if I have more than 3 tabs open. This is with a fresh install of win7/firefox with no extension. I believe it is because I have the intel integrated gx and not a dedicated card. -aero has never been my favorite. But I guess I just live with it. -superbar...it's big and it takes up screen space on smaller monitors (notebooks especially) -aero peak....still don't get the point of it What I like: - startup/shutdown is extremely fast. - The start menu seems to be redone a bit. - superbar...yes I know I just said I don't like it but I do like how I can pin programs and the previews of open windows There is so much more but these are just off the top of my head. Calum Veteran Posted March 11, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 11, 2009 No more progress bar on IE downloads! :( Does the progress bar in the taskpane work for you when copying and pasting files? I assume the actual release candidate will be the next build on Connect. madhopsman
Does the progress bar in the taskpane work for you when copying and pasting files? (Windows Explorer) Yup, just not in IE. Fortunately, it's not a big concern of mine since I use Firefox 98.3% of the time. I don't even use explorer to copy and paste files to often because it's been such a train wreck since Vista. I use Directory Opus which doesn't support the new Task Pane functions (hell, it supports Windows 7 options, you can't even use the "replace" explorer feature yet...) DemonicHawk
Is anyone else having issues with UPEK's Software? The driver installs fine, but the software (That allows you to set up the fingerprints) won't start, giving a "Open Session 80070005." It was also working fine on build 7000. :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/743894-windows-7-build-7048-discussion-and-bugs/page/7/#findComment-590692324 Share on other sites
drlacus
I am switching back to build 7000 tomorrow. My dell 1395 wifi driver has a problem. It loses signal and after that my computer freezes in a strange way. I can do anything without net, but when I try to restart or shut down my Inspiron 1525 it simply hangs in the logout screen and I press the power button to manualy shut it down my LCD TURNS OFF ???? and after 4 sec the computer turns off ofcourse. Rickkins
So far, I'm mostly liking 7048 x64. I won't say that I see anything in it that would cause me to say I want to dump XP in favor of 7, but I'm realistic enough to realize that in the long run, there won't be much choice. I never really tried veeshta, because of all the horror stories.(and again...never saw any pressing need). So while the overall experience has been positive, I got a couple peeves. The show desktop button; What genius glued it to the bottom right. I hate it there, and want it back where it's always been, for me...bottom left. The search...OMG...did they actually pay someone to come up with that..?? I'd ask for my money back. Each time I've used it, I've wanted to reach out and punch someone. Could someone perhaps send them a link to google....I mean really, WTF... Owen W Veteran Posted March 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 12, 2009 I've noticed that if you upgrade from Windows 7 Build 7000 or 7022 that this can generate alot of bugs and render Windows 7 more unstable. I would reccomend to all those who have reported bugs and have run the upgrade process to 'Fresh' install Windows 7 build 7048. It's very quick for me, and very stable - from a fresh install. gregrocker
Amazingly the memory usage has been reduced compared to 7000. 380MB out 1GB on my laptop. Its almost netbook worthy now. Next release I am going to try on a 512MB thinkpad. I've got the ram idle down to 192mb on a 512mb HP laptop by editing down graphics, and turning off these services if you can afford to: offiline files, windows search, security center (annoying notifiers), windows firewall, windows media player sharing service. Vliting might be necessary for tiny hd's but I get the same ram idle on the full Win7 build as I do when I vlite it down to half the size. The key is turning off the less necessary ram-hog services, and editing the graphics down to only shadows but keeping the visual style or it looks like Windows2000. This assumes you will not be getting Aero Glass with a 528mb machine anyway. I have the same setup. If you are using build 7048, it has known issues with wireless and networking (many different laptops experiencing it). They appear to be fixed in build 7057 I have been told. I'm testing it now. Negative, on my 2g ram PC the loss of connection (without any notification in tray) happens in 7057 just the same here. This follows with a freeze requiring hard shutdown. After restart the connection holds for varying amounts of time then bugs out again. The other major issue with both builds is windows explorer constantly restarting, but that issue is now fixable with a regedit. Ambious
on any build later than 7000, to use UPEK driver you need to MANUALLY set "Run as Administrator" on the enrolment EXE, usually in "C:\Program Files\Protector Suite". Once you do that - it'll work like a charm.
