Everytime i connect my iphone to itunes Apple Mobile Backup asks to connect to the internet, why is this and should i enable it to connect ?

I believe it connects to make sure that your PC/Mac is authorized to play the media content that is transferring from your device to the PC/Mac. I am not 100% sure but would be leaning toward it.

no, that's not the case. Any iPod can play purchased media from any library it is synced with. No authorization is required and there are no limits to the the number of iPods you can link to a library.

A search for "apple mobile backup" seems to indicate this is a Windows application which puts you in the wrong section twice (tablet and mobile devices for iPhone and Windows troubleshooting for other software).

You should try one of those two forums, hopefully somebody can move this thread for you.

Probably you have set it to check for iphone pdates whe you connect it

Nope not set to update, just like to know whats going on with my computer. When i backup my iphone i presume there a file somewhere with the setting on my computer or is it held on Apple's server with my iphones setting, apps and media on it.
