Neowin No Ad Version

Recommended Posts

Yea I read that and I'm not having a severe case of Buyers Remourse. The reason I posted this thread was mainly to see if there is another option somewhere else and if not to get the site admins out to possibly mention why there isn't an option like this already.

Would be good even if it was higher Subscriber.

That's what I'm thinking as well.

There was a big debate here and Neowin voiced how it relied on ads to fund this website and ad-blockers would not be mentioned, so I highly doubt there would be a version of Neowin without ads...

Seeing as how a subscriber pays money I think it wouldn't hurt them to drop ads for a subscriber (or a higher paying subscriber who is paying to have the ads removed). I'm not asking for a ad-free basic version. I'm asing about/for an ad free PAID version. So they should end up offsetting the revenue lost that way. They don't earn anything from me with ADs as I don't click on them. So ADs aren't everything...

You have a point there. :)

If you're paying $10 a year or whatever, which is a little less than dollar a month, taking off advertisements don't really justify the costs of running the site. :p

The majority of people aren't subscribers. They'd still have plenty of ad money rolling in.

Dunno why people care that much. The ads are pretty damn unobtrusive.

As mentioned earlier, I don't like ADs. Especially with Neowin having them embedded in the text which has constantly made me wonder if I should leave the site. I'm not asking them to do this for free (I understand it costs money to run a site) and I don't really want to resort to robbing them (using an AD Blocker). I'm willing to PAY a reasonble rate to get rid of the ADs. Allowing me to support one of my top websites and to not have ADs.

Then the staff at Neowin can get a real measure of their value, the number of paid subscribers. IMHO AD support as a primary driving force for a site devalues it in a number of ways. It not only distorts the number of people who value the site it also (can) devalue the site's content in a hope to garner more page views (as higher page views translate into higher ad revenue) at the expense of long term subscribers...

At any rate, this isn't an attempt to ask for anything free. I'm just making a valid suggestion to Neowin and allowing others to share their support (or lack thereof) for the admins to take it all into account.

I think the idea of an ad-supported 'free' and ad-free 'premium' version of the same website is a bit old fashioned. Unless you're deviantart. We're not that dumb anymore. I think a couple of unobtrusive (We love using that word don't we?) ads are no problem.

I find the substance and quality of the content here to FAR outweigh the negatives (if there are any) in having ads. The ads make this place possible. Double the ads I don't care, if it means keeping Neowin alive.

You've been here since 2002, and you're complaining now? About $10 over a 365 day period? You should be embarrassed.

I actually feel foolish I've never got around to being a subscriber.

I am confused... Are the majority posting without reading? If you find the ads ok then there is no reason to reply really. You can not subscribe and keep the ads and all is fine. I'm not saying the whole site should be ad free for everyone...

I'm simply inquiring about the possibility for an AD free version that costs MONEY. For instance, $50/ year to subscribe and not have ADs...

I'm not sure why this idea is getting so many misdirected reactions.

Because its been discussed many times before.

It's a reasonable request and, honestly, I'm not sure what ever happened to the idea. Maybe someone higher up will catch wind of this thread and let us know.

Thanks for wanting to deal with this in a way that helps Neowin and not resorting to ways that simply hurt the site in the long run.

The only ads that annoy me in any way at all are the pop up ons on the main page.

But other than that, I barely notice any of the others anyway.

Though any sort of higher paid subscriber badge would would only be taken into consideration by me dependant on the colour of the badge provided. :p

    • Apple and Tesla trade secrets reportedly exposed following a Tata Electronics cyberattack by Hamid Ganji Image via Depositphotos.com Tata Electronics has confirmed that it detected a cybersecurity incident in some of its systems. The Indian company is a manufacturing partner of both Apple and Tesla, and the incident may have exposed some trade secrets belonging to the two American companies. The World Leaks ransomware group is said to be behind the attack, and it has reportedly posted up to 200,000 files on the dark web, including component designs and specification documents related to Apple and Tesla products. Tata Electronics told Reuters that its response protocols were deployed immediately and that the “incident has had no impact on our operations across businesses, which remain unaffected.” The ransomware group reportedly sent a ransom demand to Tata Electronics, while Apple has launched an investigation into the incident. World Leaks claims it stole more than 200,000 files totaling over 630GB from Tata Electronics. Some database files on the ransomware group’s website are titled "com.apple.factorydata," which could refer to Apple’s iPhone production operations in India. Moreover, some documents reportedly contain material specifications and quality inspection standards for iPhone circuit board components. However, Apple is not the only affected company. A folder found in the World Leaks database is titled "NV36 Chargeport Controller - North America," which may refer to Tesla Model Y components. Additionally, other files in the database reportedly contain drawings related to Tesla’s Project Highland, the internal codename for the EV maker’s updated Model 3 sedan. To support the authenticity of the stolen files, World Leaks has published documents containing footers that read: "This document contains proprietary and confidential information of Apple Inc." and "information contained herein is deemed confidential, proprietary, and a trade secret of Tesla Inc." Cybersecurity researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia told Reuters that the database also contains emails, event logs spanning several years, and passport copies of employees, including foreign nationals. Both Tesla and Apple have declined to comment on the scale of the incident.
