I need OpenSolaris grub help!

Recommended Posts

OK, I bought a new gaming computer recently and it came with Vista installed. There is a problem that causes no keyboard input to be read until an OS or bootable disk is booted. It was never really an issue until I, without considering this problem, installed OpenSolaris 11-08 on a second partition. Now I cannot boot into anything other than Solaris, I can't change any BIOS settings, and even inserting a bootable DVD does no good because it requires me to press a key to boot from the DVD, which obviously does not work.

So I want to change the boot order so that it boots into Windows by default. Please help.

Assuming OpenSolaris uses grub, edit the grub configuration file so that the Windows entry is the default one. There should be a grub option in that file (on my linux boxes it's /boot/grub/menu.lst) that says "default 0" or similar. Just change the number to the number of the windows entry.

If OpenSolaris doesn't use grub, chances are you'll need to do something similar for any boot loader.

Firstly, Poster above is correct. short term you can change grub settings to boot windows by default.

Now to fix the issue, Can you post your motherboard model please and the type of keyboard and connection type.
