Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Film)

Sorry Larry. I intentionally left my post vague on the specifics for that very reason. I apologize if it still ruined it for you.

And thanks for this response. At least one person gets how the movie could have potentially been ruined for me, so I appreciate the fact.

The fact of the matter is luckily I stopped reading most, not all, comments that could have ruined the movie for me, but that does not change the fact they should be in spoilers.

For people to all of a sudden think this is something crazy, or this thread is immune to spoilers because it is a movie also based on a book, baffles me.

Spoiler tag for a movie that has already premiered based on a 4-year old book? a bit extreme, but okay.

To be fair, ????

 Seriously, are you kidding me with that question?

Let me spell it out for you as simply as possible.

I came into the thread for the same exact reason I go into any threads about any other form of media, such as video games for example, that I am looking forward to. I expect to read news, maybe see some screens, start see reviews coming it, and then once it has been released get GENERAL impressions.

So to be fair, to say I should not have come into this thread is literally when of the stupidest things I have ever read on this site, and I have read a whole lot of stupid things said.

And I beg to differ, I know nothing of the books, so to speak about major plot aspects of the books indeed can and very well may have ruined the movie for me.

it's a 4 year old book, that *most* of the people that go to see the movies have already read. you should have known better than to enter this thread if you haven't read any of the books instead of lashing out at people. because believe me, what most people will talk about is not whether the movie is bad or god, but whether or not it sticks to the books. as has happened with the 7 films that came before this one.

while we are at it, maybe you could write twitter and suggest them to cover-up the trending topics for you. because one of them in particular is already revealing too much.

spacer... thank you for the info. Now I know what to expect. I was really hoping they would stick to the books more but I guess not. Oh well

DirtyLarry, well in my case, If I don't want to be spoiled I avoid talking or reading anything about it. You never know who's going to spoil it for you!

which is what normal people do

The ending sucked, I hated it. When harry rolls out of hagard's arms and runs off it stupid. Nevilles big moment in front of everyone is taken away. And then the way it ends instead of the epic speech in front of everyone followed by the last spell from each we get this stupid fly through the castle and then he melts or something. Mrs. Weasley being timed was also stupid as she was pretty bad ass in the book and they just skip over it. When they made changes in the other films I understood why when they gave reasons. But imo it went from an awesome ending to a stupid one.

I agree.

The rebound spell didn't even seem like one. And I expected Molly's duel to be more dramatic.

The fly through was most stupid IMO, did they show both scratching other's face? I almost thought, wow! Cat fight between Harry and voldemort!

Went to see it at Showcase Dudley today. Overall I liked the film, thought it stood up to the book pretty well. Obviously, the books are still better by miles.

However, the bloody sound cut out during the film. And it was during the most crictial bit -

the pensieve reveal, where Harry views Snapes memories

- really not happy about that.

I chose not to see it in 3D I don't think I missed much. I hope Birmingham Imax do all the films soon in 3D (I don't mind post-production 3D processing) and it would be great to see all the films on a Imax screen.

Yesterday I watched the last part in 2D (I wanted to understand the ending without having strange object on my eyes), but I want to watch it a second time, and I am thinking in trying the 3D version to see the difference, is it worth it? are there real 3D scenes that make you jump from your chair?

I saw it in 3D on Saturday, its not one of those 3D films. Its only been converted into 3D and not made for 3D. Nothing makes you jump out of your chair.

I really enjoyed it, despite not reading the books.

Thanks, I didn't know this, then no 3D...

I didn't read any book either, and enjoyed the movies...

I definitely agree that the ending was better in the book, but the movies were well-done, and this was no exception. Loved it!

Edit: Thanks, 05M3L

Only thing I would change is the ending--they should have gotten different actors to play their nearly-20-years-older selves. Daniel Radcliffe was the only one who even looked even remotely convincing as a middle-aged guy--the rest looked exactly the same, just in "grown up" clothes.

I want to say more but I don't know how to use the spoiler tags. I'll edit this post if someone will tell me how to do them.

To use the spoiler tags just wrap the text in between this
the text you want to hide goes here
I watched the movie and I loved it! I read the book so long ago that the little details didn't bother me at all :D

I liked it. I think it stayed mostly true to the book. Ebert said it best about

Snapes memories that if your theater isn't quiet or near tears during them, something must be wrong. A lady behind me was bawling.

Still, I really liked it. Ebert suggested sticking with the 2D version as the 3D wasn't as good.

I don't know who Ebert is but I saw it in 3D and loved it.

Roger Ebert, the movie critic?

This is what he added at the end of his review:

Note: This entire movie is dark, gloomy and filled with shadows. So it should be. That makes it particularly inappropriate for the additional dimness of 3-D. There are a few shots that benefit from 3-D (I like the unfolding of the little magical globe) but none that require it. Avoid the surcharge and see the film in proper 2-D with brighter color.

Which, I kind of agree with. I watched Saw 3D and he was right about the limitations of 3D in darker areas, so I was happy with the 2D version.

I saw it in 3D and I didnt find it annoying, barely noticeable.

And yes, the movie is dark. Yates ABUSED the damn thing. The entire movie is gray. He may as well have made it in black and white, cuz she reduced the color palette to nothing. It even makes me miss the blue tint of OoTP or HBP

I really like it in 3D. They didn't overdo it by making things fly at you for no reason. It seemed to mostly make the environment seem a lot bigger, which I liked.

Meh.. went to see it just to know how it ended, couldn't be bothered to read the books and was forced to watch teh movies cause of GF so... All in all I'd give the whole box set a 7/10. Though I have to say, It does leave you wanting for more, if there can be crappy Narnia Movies, why can't we have more decent potter movies.

    • If I could, I would commemorate it the best way possible: Replacing old machines that are still running Windows XP with something more modern, stable and better.     Noone and nothing should be running Windows XP in 2026.
    • Google's new hand-wave reCAPTCHA can be bypassed with a stock photo by Ivan Jenic Image: Screenshot Google is testing a new reCAPTCHA method that asks you to wave at your camera to prove you're human. So, besides solving puzzles and reading distorted text, you can now use your computer’s camera to pass the verification test. When the hand gesture verification is triggered, your browser asks for camera access and prompts you to perform a simple gesture, like a wave or an open palm. Google says it records a short video of the movement and uses AI to extract 21 hand-knuckle coordinates to complete the verification process. The video is then immediately deleted, and Google swears it doesn't keep it. The process alone can be uncomfortable for people who wouldn’t want their biometric data, which hand scans technically qualify as, recorded. But it gets even more nuanced, as early testers discovered that the new hand-waving reCAPTCHA can be passed with a simple stock image. A user on X tested the new challenge using a stock image of a hand fed through OBS Virtual Camera, and it passed. I wanted to verify it, so I tried the same thing. It took me a few tries and a few stock images, but in the end, I was also able to pass the test. I simply had to readjust the stock image of a generic person waving inside OBS, and Google’s mechanism registered it as a legitimate hand gesture. Once again, it didn’t even have to be a video or an AI-generated hand animation. Given the simplicity of the process, the entire action can be automated in minutes. All it takes is a simple Python script to render the new reCAPTCHA method obsolete. And it doesn’t even have to be an AI bot, which is usually used for solving puzzles and other verification methods. The new reCAPTCHA method is still in its early phase, and Google will, hopefully, update its AI to at least reject still images. However, this incident, combined with users’ initial skepticism about Google’s practices regarding user data, likely won’t make too many people wave at the camera anytime soon.
    • 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 "to fund healthcare and tuition" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Who do you think you are talking about, some COMMUNIST? We are better than them, doG bless Murica!!! p.s. I'm from a country where government does exactly that, i.e. not form US.
    • Apparently not. I know it is on Edge for business at the moment, but how long will it be before it become on the home version of Edge?
