I've just tried out the 64 bit version in the past few hours.

One thing I did notice is my wireless network connection is really **** poor. When I download a file off firefox, say itunes or acrobat reader, it goes ok then I get a message saying download terminated.

Also, browsing the internet now is a serious pain, pages taking ages to load etc.

When searching for something in the Start Menu (Like a file I've downloaded), moving the mouse over the possible different files cause slowdowns and graphical glitches, explorer.exe goes into a fit by using 100% CPU.

Confirmed.

Start -> Search -> *.mp3 -> Go Up and Down (WITH YOUR CURSOR) The .mp3 files shows - have your CPU spike like hell. 50% here on a C2DT8300. It also visibly laggs too.

Just today I witnessed an odd bug related to gadgets.

When I booted into Win7, only two of my gadgets appeared

I then waited for a few minutes, but they simply didn't appear. I tried right-clicking on desktop and choosing "Gadgets" to open the gadget window, but *nothing* happened! I've tried using the shortcut in the start menu instead, but again *nothing*. Very strange

I checked with Task Manager, and sidebar.exe was running (figures... otherwise, no gadgets at all would be running).

I decided to reboot, but after that *again* only two of my gadgets appeared :pinch: (different ones though)

Also here, they stayed away after waiting a little bit. Same as before too, the gadget window wouldn't show itself at all. Sidebar.exe also running here.

I then rebooted a second time, and after that, finally all my gadgets appeared. Gadget window worked again as well.

Very odd... hasn't happened to me so far

iTunes still runs like ######. Lost count of how many times I've had to close its process andhave to open it again. Took 7 times this morning to get it to actually open. What the **** is all that about?

Secondly, if I'm using the 64 bit version of it, why does it install in Programme Files(x86) and show in the processes that its 32 bit?

I'm guessing that the iTunes issues are issues that affects some and not others. Because I've been using iTunes for years and not had issues at all

(accept during Vista Beta when I'd occasionally get a black screen for iTunes). Having run iTunes on Win 7 Builds 7000, 7057 and currently in 7068,

I can say it's running like a champ.

As far as install locations, I've been installing all my programs in a preselected location I create myself on an external drive. Unless a program has no

option to browse for an install location, they all end up at my created folder: L:\Program Files.

One thing I've found, and it drove me nuts until I fixed it, is that I just recently upgraded my desktop from 7000 to 7068, and my internet came to a CRASHING halt after. I don't have the best connection, but a file that would normally get me 300+ kbps was now giving me 3 if I was lucky. After much testing, I narrowed it down to live mesh that was causing the problems. I did notice some odd quirks in that program after too, such as not having direct access to sync folders... Anyway, I just uninstalled and reinstalled live mesh, and everything is fine again. Live mesh is no longer causing my network to constantly spike, and I do have access to those folders again.

Anywho, I just though I should post this in case someone else is driving themselves nuts like I was trying to figure out the problem. Live mesh DOES NOT perform well under an upgrade without reinstalling! Haha

I just found out that the "Vertical Maximise" function (double-click on the lower window border) is *still* broken, same as in 7000 and ever since! :pinch:

Just as in 7000, the window simply forgets its vertical size when you use this function, and the next time you open it, it has the old size again. This way you really can't use it

If they already put some function like that in it, they should at least see to it that it works, but it's just as broken as four months ago :x

I had also used Feedback on this way back then, but it seems that did nothing.

'All Programs' in Start Menu is still blank in 7068 x64. Tried repair install and creating a new user account, but still 'All Programs' is empty. Registry values are all OK and items are navigable in the original folders that are used to populate 'All Programs' and also have correct permissions, exactly as on another 7068 x86 machine where Start Menu is fine. Snapshots from x64 people with same problem:

Good thing I use a player with MSC mode.

Just a follow up, while I did gain access to those folders, it appears live mesh is still the culprit for bringing down my internet... It worked fine under 7000, I'm not sure if it was the upgrade that messed something up somewhere even though I reinstalled live mesh. Maybe in the next build of 7, live mesh will run smoothly, but until then, I'll have to go without syncing *sigh*

This problem is driving me to distraction.

It keeps asking permissions for things. Mainly saving anything to the desktop. Keeps coming up with the attached message. Saving it to the C: drive doesnt help either as you can also see. Making me so angry.

I have to create a folder on the c: drive and quickly save the file in there. Sometimes I only want to save a file to the desktop for an instant and now its a long frawn out affair. This has been happening I think since 7000. Any reasons and solutions?

That's the Uac. If you turn it off, those messages will go away. It doesn't provide that much security, and still annoys from time to time, although not as much as in Vista anymore.

You should better install proper security software (like e.g. Kaspersky Internet Security) instead, that will give you far better security.

Tried that. But its still doing it. Asking for admin permission to save a .wav to the desktop. Its so annoying

Small UI bug, not sure if it was in previous builds.

On a Jump List under Frequent, you can pin things. Hovering over the pin icon shows a little tooltip that says "P&in to this menu" where the i should be underlined to show a keyboard shortcut. The keyboard shortcut does not work, either.

Just checked this, same here

The '&' after the 'P' would normally be used to turn the 'P' into a keyboard shortcut, but somehow it ended up broken.

I'm having a strange and very serious bug with build 7068. If I play any audio video file over say 20 seconds in length using Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic my ATI Xpress 200M driver crashes. The video may then or may not play through without further problems.

I did install https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=announce&f=12&id=11's Win7Codecs, but uninstalling them didn't help and trying to remove / reinstall the ATI driver really mucked things up. At least system restore works.

I should mention that I installed 7068 over my Windows XP partition, but I don't see why that would be a problem.

Any ideas other than it's a beta and buggy as any other MS product?

    • The original word arts were far more awesome! With their own preconfigured fill patterns, 3D layout, etc, with options to fine-tune their size and colors as desired. I especially loved the ones circled below and still miss them from my primary school years: I frankly use them less these days 'cause the new one isn't as straightforward fine art as what we originally had, taking time and effort to get back to the same graphics quality as the original offered, which I simply don't have enough of for merely fine-tuning my presentation titles. Same with the built-in picarts selection. Bring back the original pre-configured options for word art then I'll be using them far more frequently in my presentations even today.
    • What didn't you understand about that was mainly referring to Google, Microsoft, etc. keeping your passwords. Password Management is a key service of Bitwarden and it's not going anywhere. In any case they do offer export to other Password management services, backup/download of passwords, and the already mentioned on-prem option. I don't agree with the OP to use the free option as it's better to be an actual customer IMO. They don't just don't delete accounts like the big tech companies with no recourse which was the main concern of this article. I was confused if the author was trying to sell this setup? It should be obvious to anyone reading this article this solution is overly complicated and overkill for most users.
    • I got this notification just now in Android: So I went in to disable the "Other" or "Marketing" notifications in Notifications management: But it came through the Now Playing? So if I disable that I no longer get what's Now Playing in Notifications? I'm a paying subscriber, not on the free plan... can they sink any lower?
