j005u Posted April 28, 2003 Share Posted April 28, 2003 ok, ive asked this b4, but i want to find another sulution to this besides having NO AV at all.. anyways, when i inastall any AV it finds an Optix.Backdoor trojan, winampw.exe in C:\windows, norton auto deleted the file and now i cant lanch any program, and it brings up the dialog Windos Cannot find winampw.exe.This program is neede for opening files of type 'Application' Type executable file to be used instead: Dialog box. Ok cancel Browse.. So can i do something, since i assume, the virus, works like this: It tells windows, that the file winampw is neede to lanch all programs, which means, that i cant delete it.. Some tell me what to but instead od winampw.exe or am i gonna have to use windows restore, and not be able to use an AV at all? Hope some1 can help me.. ill be greatfull.. Samoa Posted April 28, 2003 Share Posted April 28, 2003 What OS are you using? If you are using XP just do a system restore prior to the deletion. I have had no problems with Grisoft's AVG. go to grisoft.com I believe and get the free or paid version. Free updates, at least twice a month, good luck.
