need help, trying to skin explorer

hey im trying to skin those bars in my explorer but when i convert the image to bmp and put it into shellstyle.dll when windows shows it it has some of the color chopped out and replaced with white? do i need to use less color if so how many colors are supported?

Is that part supposed to be transparent? If so, did you save it as a 32-bit bitmap, because only those have an alpha channel.

no its not suppost to be transparent, it has a white backdrop like the second image

it was fireworks, i opened it in photoshop and saved it as 32 bit bmp and it worked fine. why cant i save it as a 32 bit bmp in fireworks it only goes to 24 bit. and im wayyyy more familiar with fireworks
