Have you personally seen Vista running on a PC from 2002?

yes. Athlon XP + 1 GB DDR RAM + DX9 card = Vista runs fine :)

Vista Sp2 is not RTM. Current Build is 6002.18004.090408-1820. This build includes the following bug ( Static IP settings on the host Virtual nics associated with external networks are lost after applying SP2) which was present in Build 6002.18003.090403-1730.

What issues are there with my SP2 version then?

Sp2 will be out in May.

most likely near the end of May if there are no more builds being produced after 6002.18004

I recently read this chinese forum thread:

http://bbs.pcbeta.com/archiver/tid-460731.html

Vista SP2 could be RTM'ed by the end of April and RTW'ed (release to web on Microsoft Update/Windows Update and at Microsoft Download Center) by the end of May.

I hope they release SP2 before 7100 public, although I don't think that's very possible.

I see far too many "windows 7 rulz and vista is traSh" kind of posts these days. Maybe if SP2 came out before 7100 some of the win7 fans may install it out of "fun" and realize that Vista isn't bad it the first place.

And i'm gonna mention (again) how I dislike Win7's incompatibility with Sandboxie and (many?) portable applications. Yes I know it's no fault of Win7.

And I'm not impressed with the built in WinXP "emulation", it's good for the occasional program I guess, but to use it on a daily basis is.. (ugh all the overhead)

But nevertheless I'm sure to get Win7 when it's out :D I really love it too even though I sound like i'm bashing it here

That's great, but what are the confirmed md5 hashes of the SP2 installers only? What you posted appears too be for the ISOs.

Those are from the installers directly and not the ISO posted on MSDN (I hash checked the installers stored inside the ISO).

The x64 installer from MyDigitalLife has an md5 of db35df98ae5a6fd085386580a6ee8b55 I'm a bit skeptical about installing it. Its the 36 language version so maybe thats why the MD5 differs.

why not just release it for the public....

annoying when MS does this everytime.... i guess they want to force you to buy a technet or msdn subscription if you want to get things before everyone else..... great marketing Balmer! Noottt! please your consumers too not just the subscribers...who would like to get the fixes to your buggy OS and will get a better experience overall...

That is possible. I only downloaded the 5 language version.

I can't wait for this to become public! THanks Frazell!

You're welcome :D

MSDN and TechNet are designed for developers and IT administrators respectively. So giving them access to things like SP2 early makes a lot of sense and isn't just about making subscribers feel nicer. Developers who waited until the last minute would get a few weeks to test their applications against the SP that will be pushed out soon. IT admins can start testing the SP in their environments and rolling it out as soon as they can.

General users generally don't care about when a SP comes out. It is the few techical users like us who get all ape about it. The majority of us users probably have MSDN directly or via our place of employment anyways.

did some browsing for the md5s... and http://www.codenamewindows.com/?p=198 might just confirm your doubts about the md5sums on mydigitallife and also can confirm what Frazell Thomas has said, cheers.
