Thinkin of switchin...

Recommended Posts

Okay, I might be thinkin of switchin to mac, altho, I have some questions.

I know you can emulate Windows on a mac (That's cool), but can u run Windows games properly on a mac?

Just that I'm a good UT2003 player, as well as Quake Engine-based games (MOHAA,...), so will I be able to use em?

I could have tried on my school's iMac (G3 500 Mhz), but trust me, it's already slow enough on OSX... lol

It is impossible to run any DirectX games even on Virtual PC

I dont even think OpenGL games work

damn... I guess I'll stick with a PC then, I really need my games for work....

Altho, as soon as I get money, go for a Mac! :D

If you are thinking of switching to mac, and you like games, you might as well just kill yourself. I really cannot understand why people would want to switch to mac, especially at a stage such as this

well, what ima do, is keep my PC and add a mac to my collection :)

Don't switch, buy both pc and Mac :)

The only way! ... Besides, u can always keep a relatively cheap PC, for Games ... and have a Mac for "REAL work" ... haha (yes, i prompted the start of the Flame!! mu haha)

...you did say ..

"I Really need my games for work"

....are u saying, u get PAID for playing these, or something?! :o

yep, paid to work on pooters ;)

That's always been my dream job :)

you're paid to play games tho? ... BTW, MOHAA is available ... Obviously Quake3 ... and i assume UT2k3 isn't far away ... but you really wanna stick with a PC, if games are sucha must!

Yeah, I bought all my games I use (Why warez em? :p)

UT2003, Mohaa, Mohaas, NHL2003 (That was for my personnal pleasure),Raven Shield, Battlefield 1942 + Expansion,...

I gotta say that, I downloaded many games, but since a while, I buy em all :)

Get a Mac when it gets a G5 if you are going to wait ;)

You really have a dream job

Wish i was as lucky :(

Yeah, and you know what?

Right now, I have a job that is of administrating Game Servers (People rent 'em), but I'm moving in the US (Florida) in about 1 month for another computer job

Some details on the job in question:

Gonna build computers and benchmark 'em :D

Income?

~100$ per comp

I will build around 6-7 pooters per day, meaning around 700$ per day

700x5 days per week = 3 500$ per week

3 500$ per week x 4 weeks in a month (Not exactly, but o well :)) = 14 000$ Per month

14 000$ per month x 12 months = 168 000$ per year

w0000000000t Mac here I come!

They are probably sold through his company that he works for..

If you want an incredibly stable and robust OS, look no further than Windows XP. Want an OS that will run virtually any software (games included) on the market, stick with Windows XP. Want hardware that is easily upgradeable and usually non-proprietary, stick with Windows. Want to use a dock instead of a taskbar, use Object Dock. The list goes on and on. Why in the world would you want to switch?

Want to be welcomed every morning with ...

"There are new Security Updates awaiting Download, Proceed?"

heh...

Whats the point of switching to a Mac then emulating the PC format?!?!

Unfortunatly when you live in a world where 95% of the people use Windows you are occasionally required to run Windows software yourself. Linux people come accross the same situations from time to time, and as long as Microsoft remains in such a position of dominence anyone who doesn't tow-the-line with their choice in OS will occasionaly be required to find ways to play with those who do.

In my case I have to run Visual Studio so I can write MFC for my programming courses, I also have to run Internet Explorer on Windows to make sure code I write works in that browser without crashing computers for the wintel crowd.

ok...no the games don't run that good and there is alot of slow down, man don't switch totally i mean have a pc and a mac, trust me after using a mac for a while, lack of games and all the other good stuff...u will wanna switch back to pc, if u get games that are made for the mac will look good, so think about it when u do it...

heh vpc can't run anything 3d. and it lags in 2d haha.

anyways, why switch to mac? this has been discussed to no end in other threads. please go read them and stop making useless posts.

ut2k3 is advertised in my latest issue of macworld. also quake3 and jedi knight 2 are available on mac and they don't lag in my experience.

    • Meta launches new AI glasses in 26 styles and Muse Spark multimodal capabilties by Pradeep Viswanathan Meta today announced a new line of Meta Glasses in partnership with EssilorLuxottica. The new AI glasses build on the company’s existing smart glasses portfolio, which is sold under the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta brands. The new Meta Glasses start at just $299, are compatible with prescription lenses, and will be available in 26 styles across different colors, lenses, and frames. At launch, Meta Glasses will be available in three frame styles. The Meta Adventurer features a clean rectangular design and comes in Standard and Large sizes. The Meta Fury is a bolder frame for users who want a stronger look. Meta Glasses by Kylie is a slim oval frame designed in collaboration with Kylie Jenner. Similar to existing Meta AI Glasses, the new Meta Glasses include a dedicated action button that can be used to quickly access Meta AI or launch a favorite feature. They also feature open-ear speakers for calls, music, and more. Meta has also included a multi-mic array with wind noise reduction for calls and messaging. Users can capture photos and videos hands-free using voice commands. Meta claims more than eight hours of battery life, while the portable charging case can provide up to 40 additional hours. As expected, Meta Glasses come pre-loaded with Meta AI powered by Muse Spark from day one. Muse Spark is the first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs with improved multimodal capabilities. The same Meta AI upgrade is also now available on existing Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta Glasses in the US and Canada via an update. With the Muse Spark-powered AI assistant, Meta AI in the new glasses can provide smarter answers, understand what the user is seeing, and help with daily tasks such as calendar management and navigation. Meta also announced an upcoming feature called the dynamic photo feature, which captures multiple frames and recommends the best one. Pedestrian navigation is also coming soon to these glasses. Meta is also adding support for 14 new live translation languages, including Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and Korean. The new Meta Glasses are available starting today through Meta.com, Best Buy, Amazon, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, and select retailers.
    • is that a personal preference? whether it is or isn't, i get where you're coming from. i try to get and use fully open sourced applications whenever i can but there are instances where i find a superior product that is closed sourced. in these cases i do my best to learn about the company, who operates it, their background, parent and sub structure etc. to some extent, depending on "the smell test". i really believe that Syncback is really and truly something great. even if you don't use it, it's always worth a recommendation to someone else, especially if that someone else is not very computer literate. for someone of your calibre you, you'll manage just fine with Syncthing, no doubt about it.
    • I agree, especially if it is cloud sourced, like this one is.. but I wouldn't say no to a local AI assistant similar to the Zettlab one which would be really helpful with my large Photos library, but also to perform tasks like installing Docker apps rather than me having to do it via Docker Compose, but I don't think we're quite there yet. Synology Photos is somewhat AI, you can ask it to search for certain people (if you have tagged them and it will attempt to match similar photos to the person) and if you put a search term in for "cars" for example, it will show you all photos with a car.
