Hi Guys,

So I went ahead and did a clean install of W7 RC on my Dell Vostro 200 Desktop. Everything is great except when I try to restart or shutdown it just hangs on the Shut down screen and it won't shut down.

I tried re-installing the Chipset drivers from the dell site but still no go.

Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. I went to shutdown my PC after only installing 7100 only hours before but it was stuck on the shutdown screen. The circle was spinning so it wasn't frozen, it just didn't do anything. Even left it for 15 minutes to be sure.

What am I looking for in the even log? I looked under System and found

The operating system is shutting down at system time ‎2009‎-‎05‎-‎06T21:56:24.338867100Z.

Nothing about any problems.

Yup same here I looked in the event Log last night, nothing about any programs causing it to hang. My problem actually started on the very last reboot of the initial install, so that rules out any programs causing the issue. It has to be a driver issue. maybe ACPI driver? I sent feedback to MS about it.

I figured out the problem. It was my M-Audio Soundcard causing the problem. It won't let W7 shut it down. Here is a nice work around incase anyone else has this issue:

1) Create a .bat file (create txt file and change extention to .bat)

2) Right Click on file > "edit" and enter following info:

net stop "Audiosrv"

net stop "AudioEndpointBuilder"

3) Save file as "Audio stop"(or whatever you want) to your main drive ie: C:\Audio stop

4) Open "run" from start menu and enter "gpedit.msc" (without quotes) and hit "OK"

5) Now navigate from right pain of window "User Configuration" > "Windows Settings" > "scripts (Logon/Logoff)" > "Logoff"

6) From window that opens from clicking "Logoff" Click "Add" then browse to where you saved "Audio Stop.bat" earlier and double click on it.

7) Hit "Apply" and close.

You are done

Window7 will now Automatically stop the Audio services when Shutting Down or Restarting allowing system to complete the process.

if for some reason the audio service doesn't start back up just do the same thing for logon but use "net start" of course and create a whole new titled 'audio start.bat" batch file, just so theres no confusion with what bat file is what. hope this helps you, it did for me. I got this off the windows seven beta forum from a user. It solved it but then my audio service wouldnt load on startup at random times so I added a net start and now works flawless.

good luck!

Been having this problem on my wife's computer for DAYS...was about to give up, but followed the advice of others in this thread and set out to identify the culprit service.

For me it was xAudio64.exe or Modem Audio Service. Whenever I stopped it manually it would reboot just fine...CRAP, hah, as I was typing, I had disabled the service from starting, and my reboot froze. But at least the problem dissappeared for a bit. Perhaps there's another service now that's picking up the slack.

I will keep you posted.

    • I'm still rocking iOS 25.x on my primary phone cuz iOS 26 still has usability quirks (mostly aesthetic and thus its UX) which I don't wanna deal with -- and I've been piloting them with all of these updates on my backup phone, so I'm well aware of its "improvements" since iOS 26 was first released (compared to version 26.5.x).
