FOX easily won the night dominating the adults 18-49 and adults 18-34 demos.

From 8pm-9pm the president averaged 21.2 million just on ABC (adults 18-49 rating/share =1.8/5, 7.4 million total viewers), CBS (1.2/4, 5.63 million) and NBC (1.9/6.8.16 million).

People want to jump the gun on declaring So You Think You Can Dance in the fall a mistake and a loser. For now, FOX laughs at you and will take its 2.7/8 adults 18-49 rating and 3.0/9 with adults 18-34 and not worry that there were only 6.465 million viewers. Leave Marc Berman to complain about that while FOX smiles at its year over year improvements even if it wasn?t as strong as the summer version of the show.

From FOX:

The Fall season premiere of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE posted a 2.7/8 among Adults 18-49 and grew over FOX?s regular Fall?08 average in the Wednesday 8p hour by +26% among Adults 18-34 (2.9/9 vs. 2.3/8). SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE won the 8p hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34/25-54, Teens and virtually all key demos and showed growth in its second half hour among Adults 18-49 (+8%, 2.8/8 vs. 2.6/8), Adults 18-34 (+15%, 3.1/9 vs. 2.7/9), Teens (+13%, 1.8/6 vs. 1.6/6) and Total Viewers (+5%, 6.6 vs. 6.3 Mil.)

And I?m sure someone will declare the premiere of Glee a failure because it only got 7.136 million viewers, but with a 3.3/9 adults 18-49 rating and a 3.6/10 with adults 18-34, FOX will no doubt be dubbing this ?Fall?s new hit? before I even hit the ?publish? button. Glee destroyed America?s Got Talent in the demos. Though AGT had more viewers (9.69M) its 2.1/5 adults 18-49 rating and 1.5/4 adults 18-34 rating were relatively paltry. With adults 18-34 Glee won by more than 100% over AGT!

From FOX:

The season premiere of GLEE outperformed its series preview following American Idol on 5/19/09 by +9% in Adults 18-34 (3.6/10 vs. 3.3/10) and +26% in Women 18-34 (5.3/14 vs. 4.2/12). GLEE built upon its lead-in by +22% among Adults 18-49 (3.3/9 vs. 2.7/8), +24% among Adults 18-34 (3.6/10 vs. 2.9/9), +18% in Teens (2.0/7 vs. 1.7/6) and +12% in Total Viewers (7.3 vs. 6.5 Mil)

Things weren?t so great for America?s Next Top Model at 9pm with a 15/4 rating with adults 18-49 and a 1.8/5 rating with adults 18-34 and 3.24 million viewers between 8p-10pm for its 13th and height-challenged installment. But it still delivered the best Wednesday for the CW since March 4 with its sweet-spot target of women 18-34. Here?s what the CW had to say about the performance:

The premiere of the 13th edition (yes, 13!!) of TOP MODEL delivered the network?s best Wednesday since March 4 in women 18-34 (2.7/8), adults 18-34 (1.7/5), women 18-49 (2.2/6), adults 18-49 (1.5/4) and total viewers (3.2mil).

TOP MODEL continues to hold up, maintaining 90% of last?s fall?s premiere delivery among the show?s core women 18-34 audience (in case your curious, it held 91% of its year ago premiere in total viewers).

Despite facing the hyped-up premiere of Glee at 9pm, TOP MODEL posted growth in the second hour, building 8% among women 18-34, 13% among adults 18-34, 20% in women 18-49, 14% in adults 18-49 and 13% in total viewers.

The CW ranked second on Wednesday with women 18-34 (2.7/8), adults 18-34 (1.7/5), females 12-34 (2.5/8) and persons 12-34 (1.6/5).

At 9pm ABC?s Wipeout was far off normal levels with a 1.7/4 with adults 18-49 and 5.03 million viewers. Primetime: Crime fared worse at 10pm (1.3/4, 3.84M).

CBS repeats landed it tied for last with adults 18-49 and last with adults 18-34 with a repeats of Criminal Minds (1.4/4, 6.21M) and CSI: NY (1.3/3, 6.23M).

Please keep in mind that preliminary numbers for live events (like a live presidential address) are very subject to change. Full viewership numbers for the speech, including cable networks will be available this afternoon. In the meanwhile you can check out the combined viewership numbers for President Obama?s recent press conferences.

agreed lawtai, the only problem is, that they need to at least make it sound closer to the show volume. I mean we go from the show's volume and recording, to this louder clear voice, due to it being a recording and it doesn't "fit". Still sounds awesome, and I know the reason they do it and such, but just doesn't fit right.

WOW what the heck is going on with me critiquing shows so much lately..... I find myself doing it with everything on TV now. Well I guess this is really the first full season I am sitting down watching TV, since I finally quit world of warcraft in Feb after 6+years of addiction.

I blame Rappy.

I so see them releasing a Season 1 CD with the songs..and each season after. The songs are really good covers, and the Acafella's was awesome

The songs are on iTunes the next day if not before, I have the songs from each episodes already, I find them very enjoyable.

Glee gets full season!

FOX has ordered a full season of the critically acclaimed comedy GLEE, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company.

?The response we?ve received to GLEE has been remarkable,? said Reilly. ?It?s already got the makings of a cultural phenomenon. I?ve seen all 13 episodes, and Ryan Murphy, his team and the talented GLEE cast have knocked our socks off with their incredible work. We?re happy to pick up this gem of a show, and can?t wait to see what they?ll do with the rest of the season.?

?It?s fantastic to be the first show picked up and that this underdog series, like its characters, will get the chance to keep singing,? said series co-creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy. ?There are so many more stories to tell. We?re grateful for the incredible passion shown by everyone involved ? the unbelievable fans, the cast, crew, our partners at the network and studio and even music artists and labels.?

In the next episode of GLEE, airing Wednesday, Sept. 23 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), Kurt (Chris Colfer) takes center stage when he tries out for the football team in order to impress his dad. Sandy (guest star Stephen Tobolowsky) and Sue (Jane Lynch) join forces to carry out their plans for disbanding the Glee Club. Meanwhile, Quinn (Dianna Agron) and Finn?s (Cory Monteith) relationship is tested when they receive some life-changing news.

GLEE, the genre-defying new musical comedy series, follows an optimistic teacher who ? against all odds and a malicious cheerleading coach ? attempts to save McKinley High?s Glee Club from obscurity while helping a group of aspiring underdogs realize their true star potential. The critically acclaimed series stars Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley and Mark Salling. Guest stars this season include Victor Garber, Josh Groban, Kristin Chenoweth and Eve.

During its preview and throughout the summer, more than 25 million people sampled the first episode of GLEE. The Sept. 9 premiere of GLEE was FOX?s highest-rated fall scripted new series premiere in three years among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens. In fact, during its first week this season, over 15 million viewers watched GLEE?s fall premiere episode. Additionally, the show has attracted over 300,000 obsessed fans on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, and after only three episodes, six of the songs featured on GLEE have already made it into iTunes? Top 100 Downloads.

GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk and Dante Di Loreto serve as executive producers, while Ian Brennan serves as co-executive producer.

This makes me astoundingly happy to see. Fox has a smash hit on its hands that it didn't have very high hopes for, and it completely blew away their expectations.

This is so unexpected and it's so cool because it's one of the few shows I actually watch.

Definitely awesome news for Glee. The show is amazing and the songs are great. Its a great family show that my entire household can not wait to see each week, and my kids sing the songs after the show is over............ besides Gold Digger.. I don't want my 10yr old daughter singing that one. :p she even asked me.. "Daddy, what is he saying after broke, broke?" I said.. "He just says broke baby... thats all" :)

Good episode last night. To much Beyonce' though.. LMAO thats all they played during the entire show just about. With the inclusion of the football team now though, should lead up to a pretty huge Glee club with tons of good harmonies so I am looking forward to it.

    • I totally disagree. Very little good comes out of governments all around the world manipulating everything they can and usually the people are not the benefactors. What you say about being restricted and expensive sounds almost like the arguments against firearms and why banning them will protect people as if making something illegal somehow will prevent the criminals from having and using them. AI being far less mainstream could simply mean the average person will not benefit, but "big brother" and the corporations will benefit, which is almost for sure NOT a good thing.

    • "connect with audiences" is the most obvious corporate speak you can think of. I only bought Need for Speed from EA because it was the only racing game with cops in existence and I dig that. Now that they killed off NFS franchise, I have nothing to spend money on. EA is officially dead for me, just like Ubisoft which I've been boycotting for some 20 years now...
