Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1 and Windows 7 Features comparison

Boots as fast as a normal clean booted computer boots.

:p

I found no diff with clean XP, Clean Vista or clean Windows 7

Its what you put into it that ultimately adds to the boot time.

+1

I think the biggest boot time killer is antivirus

For my usage, that confirms there's nothing additional in Vista or Win 7 that I need or would use, so will stick with XP, at least until 2014 or if I'm forced to buy a new PC.

you might as well wait for windows.Next

I think he was joking.

Wait...he was joking right? :|

This is a list for IT professionals. Not general home users.

You may not understand some of them. That doesn't suddenly mean they don't exist, or don't impact usability.

And as for the Vista/Win7 start menu needing more clicks? How, exactly?

Only if he uses the osk...
Now why would you want to do that?

Ok

Someone please help me and i apologise if wrong.

Example in attached picture

One click to click on start menu, one more click to select final application which is CloneDVD for example. My start menu is instant, no Startmenudelay. I can reach my destination in a very very short time.

Vista, corrrect me if im wrong, has a Win 98 Classic style cascading menu or the Aero Start Menu in which the start menu has the Folders and sub folders within its frame. Hence you cannot cascade out of the limits of the start menu.

If you have alot of stuff in the start menu, in Folders, then not only do you have to scroll to what you want, but click on the sub folder also and even click again pending on how deep the application is.

Windows 7 does the same as the Vista Aero start menu.

Dont get me started on the lack of Quick Launch in Windows 7. Mine is large, containing over 30 items, 3 visible on the Quick Launch and the rest under a arrow.

Now please, someone let me know how to do something similar in Vista and Windows 7.

Just give us the option of a cascading menu as in XP.

FFS it aint hard is it? Less clicks and bloody easier.

Vista and Windows 7, more clicks, more searching for the app you want. ****ing ridiculous

Actually, I find the new Start menu far better. I don't even have to type in the entire name of the program. Just a few letters, it appears and then hit enter. You don't have to use the mouse at all. Thus, a couple of types and click versus endless cascading menus.

Instead of navigating the menu in Vista or 7 you simply hit the Winkey, type clo and select the result displayed instantly for CloneDVD in the start menu. It is FASTER by a large margin to open programs this way than to navigate the menu. You can get to any song, document or picture in less than 2 seconds this way to. Install the proper ifilters and you can search for the contents of your pictures, music and documents too.

The search function is what makes the Vista/Win7 start menu better.

the issue with the old style cascading menu is what is shown in the above screenshot and in some users cases far worse Why ? well dur maby cause ya have to scroll with your eyes through the many applications ya got just to find the right app ya need then open up another cascading menu or something, while in windows vista/7 ya can simply type the name or part of the name of the application in the search bar and Bam it is right ther no clicks needed at all no mouse need or you can use the exploror style pan down interface that is ther in All programs no more spanning your head across the screen to find your apps.

Now let talk windows 7 superbar all ya Freaking need to do is drag drop all your apps ya want to the superbar and it Acts like the old school quick launch as well so dont give me any BS that it is differant cause it acts the same way and ya can have as many freaking icons as ay want it was made to support and scale based on how many apps are pined.

Now your gonna go but what if i want more of the same application open anotehr instance mm well simple clik on the scroll wheel in the cter of the applicaion icon and Bam a new instance how freaking hard is that

If you're really concerned with speed, lets race. I'll time how long it takes me to navigate to open "Windows Live Mail", which would live near the bottom of your cascading menus - a very large distance to move quickly and accurately. I'll do it without even using my mouse.

Winkey, "mai", Enter.

0.2 seconds. Your turn.

Exactly. No need to go hunting through menus anymore.

Also, I think the new, non-cascading menu is much more elegant.

    • I am not a fan of haptic feedback touchpads. I've owned a Surface Laptop 7 (Snapdragon) with one and a Lenovo Slim (Intel), and I hated both to the point where I purchased different laptops. It's not that they don't work most of the time; it's that they don't work 100% of the time, and there is no advantage from a user's perspective over a good mechanical trackpad like what's on a ThinkPad X1 or a Yoga 9i. I do not believe that I'll buy another haptic feedback touchpad laptop again in the near future.
    • Works fine here too. About this build, I don't like to download any kind of Windows, from any site except Microsoft. The mod might work, but I don't know what it's inside. Can contain malware, backdoors... Long time ago I've used something like this but reversed - it was 98se with the look and some functionality  of XP. Or, later XP with Vista look. But I made it myself. Not downloaded from obscure sites.
    • Rockstar gives last-gen GTA V players free upgrades tomorrow by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Rockstar is preparing to launch Grand Theft Auto VI later this year, but ahead of that, the company has revealed a new offer for some Grand Theft Auto V owners. It today announced that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version owners of the 2013-released title will soon be receiving a free upgrade to the current generation version. The studio released the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto V back in 2022, bringing significant upgrades to the original console editions. This included 60 FPS gameplay at up to 4K resolution, as well as major upgrades to textures, draw distance, and audio. Faster load times, ray tracing elements, and HDR support were also added with it. While this new and enhanced version needed a new purchase of the game to jump in, now Rockstar has decided to make it a free upgrade, dropping the $40 price tag entirely on consoles. "Beginning tomorrow, those who own any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost, and experience the best versions of GTA V and GTA Online," said the company in an official blog post. The free upgrade offer will be released tomorrow, June 18, for all Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners of Grand Theft Auto V. Players who will be jumping in on the offer will want to check how to migrate their GTA Online profile from last-generation to current-generation consoles by heading over here. The offer lands ahead of The Kortz Center Heist hitting Grand Theft Auto Online, where players and crews will be tasked with stealing priceless international art from a prestigious gallery in Pacific Bluffs. It doesn't look like Rockstar plans to stop updating its previous game even with Grand Theft Auto VI being on the horizon. The latest title is slated to launch on November 19, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
