I sent my hard drive few weeks ago (WD6400AAKS) for a replacement or RMA after just 4 months of use, the HD became useless, well they sent me another one and looks to me brand new. Well when I am trying to install the OS, I tried to partition the drive but it does not let me do anything, I tried few different OS's and all failed. Guess what guys? the hard drive that they sent me was already damaged. What a ****ing company is WD? they sent me a piece of junk. I called yesterday and they will send me another one, hopefully this time will not be another junk. I am done with WD, I will never ever again going to buy another WD product.

So you got a faulty drive in return that doesnt mean they suck it was just an unfortunate incident.

I have nothing but praise for Western Digital, ive only ever had 2 hard drives fail and both times ive set up an advanced RMA whereby they hold the funds on a debit/credit card and send you out the new drive first and you just pop the faulty one into the same box and send it back.

Western Digital used to be pretty good I own like 7 of their Hard Disks and not had a single one fail. But their recent products aren't up to their old standard. Especially their External Enclosures. Sure they have a 2TB Drive which in itself is impressive but overall I'd rather go with Samsung who are in my opinion leading the Disk wars not only in Magnetic storage but in SSD development as-well. Seagate who used to be really good have also taken a dive in reliability. Who knew it was so hard to develop a stable Hard Disk.

Mistakes happen in every company. They didn't do it on purpose.

I can see why it's annoying, but it's not worth having a stroke over, or potentially missing a great future product because of one **** up .. *shrugs*

I agree. I have had hell trying to get Seagate to RMS 2 bad 400GB drives but they got the issues resolved. These types of problems happen with every company. Call up and complain (don't be an ass) and they will probably send you out a new HDD today.

It is true what you said, my mother's computer is like 9 years old and came with a WD and still working fine :o

Also, I do agree with people when it comes to larger hard drives, but it seems all manufactors are having that problem, especially with external enclosures. At the end of the day, if I'm going to be operating multi-terabyte storage devices, then I'm afraid that I wouldn't trust any of the companies. So I would do a RAID-5 or RAID-6 array to keep all my data safe.

I agree that **** happens sometimes, but is uncommon to have a new HD and then failed after 4 months of use, then the company replaced the HD and what they sent you is a piece of junk, sorry but this to me looks like they don't give a damn about the customer.

Here is my experience with HDD's. My 1st HD was a WD 10GB it faild in 2 months and I got it replaced with a WD 13GB. The WD 13GB worked for years then I sold it and got a Maxtor 40GB then I got a Maxtor 60GB form a friend in 2001 and the drive was in a old computer, it started making clicking sounds in 2008 so that drive was replaced. I also had a WD 80GB that never failed and in 2004 had two Maxtor 160GB in raid 0 all the way to 2006 with no problems. Then had a WD Raptor 36GB for a year that never quit on me. Had a WD 60GB for my laptop HP DV5000 that gave out on me after 6 months also this past year my WD 500GB External drive gave out. All my seagates I have owned never went out and only one Maxtor but I was able to backup the data.

If they did it intentionally then I would agree, but is that likely? I am sure it is not their policy to replace faulty drives with faulty drives. It would waste their time and money. If they didn't care about customers they wouldn't replace either the first or second drive.

I also had a thought .. what if it was damaged in transit? Not their fault at all..

1 bad drive replacing another bad drive does not mean the company is bad, it means you got unlucky.

I personally went through 3 replacement drives for my OCZ SSD before I got one that worked....first one died out around 4 months......the first two replacement drives were bad (they upgraded my second replacement for free), my third replacement (still upgraded) finally worked fine.

In the end I wont say OCZ is a bad company......sure it took a few weeks to get a replacement that worked but I ended up saving a couple hundred dollars due to the free upgrade they gave me.

HDD are unreliable in general though and failures are not a rare thing across brands. WD is usually regarded is one of the more reliable ones and you just got unlucky chill and don't post retarded threads like this.

i had a similar issue with Dell a few months back. My sister ordered a studio laptop and when it came it threw an error about processor revision. if you f1 you could get to windows but that's lame so i sent it back. Upon return, nothing had changed. I argued with enough tier 1 techs to get to a manager who handled it and it all came back fixed, but I ruined his day when I told him that if it's broken 1 more time she wants a macbook.

Hard drives are fragile devices, they all fail eventually regardless of the company that made them. True there are bad batches sometimes like the recent Seagate drives, but I've found overall that one company is as good as any other as far as reliability. I've got hard drives from various companies that are nearing 20 years old and still work fine, and I've had brand new drives die in a week. It's just a roll of the dice.

For what it's worth I've never had a WD drive fail. Out of the three I have lost one was a Maxtor and the other two were Seagates.

Not to defend WD, but there is the possibility it was damaged during shipping and is quite common. You might want to make certain the IDE or AHCI controler on you mother board was not damaged by the previous drive when it failed first.

The changes will let eligible developers offer their own payment systems or send users to an external website for purchases, while separating Google’s platform service fee from the cost of using Google Play Billing. The rollout puts concrete dates and detailed rate cards behind the broader Android policy overhaul Google announced in March. That announcement followed a proposed settlement with Epic Games intended to resolve their long-running disputes over app distribution and payments, although the U.S. portion of the agreement still requires court approval. Under the new billing choice program, developers selling digital content or services can display an alternative payment option alongside Google Play Billing. They may also direct users to their own websites to complete a purchase. Developers can use Google’s standard payment-choice screen or design one that complies with the company’s user-interface rules. Choosing another payment processor does not eliminate Google’s cut altogether. The company will continue charging a service fee for transactions associated with apps distributed through Google Play, regardless of whether payment is handled by Google, an alternative provider, or a developer’s website. Google argues that this fee covers the value and infrastructure provided by Android and the Play Store. For developers earning up to $1 million annually, the service fee will generally be 10 percent.
