basicly im looking to set up a simple SAFE server to host small file for my friends and family ( so thsy can go to said link on my server download the file/pic/doc etc and be done with it

i had this set up about 6 years ago but have since forgotten how to do this :(

anyone help me out in simple terms :p

id like to STOp them from going to any other DIR also

Ps please no "why not just use a yadahaha yahaha service " i want to have control over said server

Why don't you check out HP's MediaSmart Servers. They run Windows Home Server and would be ideal for your needs. WHS comes with a built in website designed for remote access and sharing files/photos with friends and family. Limited setup is required but you still maintain full control of the server.

thx just need to work out how to do it with out needing a user name passy to view it :p

FTP can be setup to use anonymous logins, but obviously there is a significant security issue if this is done. Would you really want anybody with you IP address to view any file on the server? There's a reason why a username and password is required.... ;)

this is true :p very true guess ill stick to normal images hosting for that :p
