In vs you will probably be yelled at for using melee weapons by your team :p when someone gets smoked or pounced far away you have to take extra time switching to your main gun and if you have a shotgun gl.

Also campaign is the most boring game mode, I wouldn't judge the game too much on a very crippled demo. VS and Scavenge are going to be where its at. I can say this with my experience from the l4d demo it hardly stacked up to the actual game.

I hated versus, and campaign is the main selling point of the game... scavenge looks interested, but we'll see.

So, am I the only one who after playing the demo thinks this is like a mod for L4D and should wait with buying till its price drops around 20 Euro?

I would buy it if 3 other people agree and we buy a 4pack. Anyone interested?

Its a demo of two small maps in one game mode. It doesn't have any of the brand new game modes that l4d2 has like scavenge/realism and it doesn't even have all the weapons. Like the l4d1 demo its not even close to the full game.

@Ayepecks, but vs is the most popular game mode in l4d by far so that was my point, that for most people thats the biggest part of the game. And scavenge also has playable infected like vs which will be awesome because playable SI are a big part of the game.

Most sequels aren't drastically different from the 1st game, many of them are just new maps/weapons ect... SO I don't see why people keep saying its a "mod" or "DLC" its just as much of a equal as all the cod games. Its just a new fad to call everything dlc nowadays.

I never played L4D before I tried out the demo to the sequel. It's a lot of fun and a very different, fun fueled experience than what I have in TF2. The demo gets repetitive after 10 rounds. However, teamwork between four players against Chargers, Spitters, The Witch and the infamous Tank is rewarding and definitely enjoyable. I wished the demo featured an extra mini map. I probably will get this if it drops to $30.

I was playing campaign mode and some people used some console commande to switch over and play as the special infected. I wanted to ask them how they were doing it but I I got a buffer overrun and I was back at the menu. Anyone know how they did it?

Its a good game but still a no buy for me unless there is a crazy deal on black friday from Steam or a store (im betting Gamestop will have a deal)

I can't get it to work for me - it crashes every time I try to play in vs mode.

Most of the time a true sequel doesn't take only a year to be developed. The new L4D was announced so quickly after the first that the mod community was barely able to keep up. I think the L4D source was released barely a month or two before L4D 2 was announced.

Played the demo, and it really doesn't feel any different than the original to me. While I didn't expect it to FEEL different, however, I expected to at least see some changes, and I really hardly even noticed the melee weapons.

I don't know... say what you will about games like Gears of War to Gears of War 2 being the same as this, but that's far different in my mind. It takes a lot more thought to create a game with a full-fledged singleplayer than it does to make a few new multiplayer maps and add a new game mode. I don't care if I get flamed for saying that, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

That said, I'll probably buy it eventually. I doubt on launch day, but KMart will have it on sale for $40 soon, I believe.

Since L4D2 is out and I guess many people here won't be playing the original L4D. Any chance someone can gift it to me in Steam? I'm paying my own uni fee and I can't afford it since it's not had much price drop. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Thats not how it works m8, you can't gift games you already own, someone would have to buy the game again then gift it to you.

Had the original on day 2, not going to get this anytime soon, unless it goes on extreme sell

KMart will have it for $40 on Black Friday, I believe.

I went back and played the original Left 4 Dead, and I now I'm almost positive I won't be getting this one anytime soon. The game just doesn't seem as original or exciting, and the only big improvement for me is the atmosphere. I wasn't so sure of the boycott at first, but now I kind of agree with it (even though it's no longer around).

cheaper than that, it's not original enough for me to pay that much, it's pretty much new l4d maps and characters

Left 4 Dead 2 really isn't a sequel, its more of an expansion. A sequel continues a story, this just adds more of them.

They did a lot of changing to the 'director' AI, and that isn't something you can simply offer as a downloadable patch. The graphics were enhanced, lots more functionality added, and the computer AI (allied) is much smarter in one player modes (it still leaves a lot to be desired though).

I greatly look forward to buying L4D2, the first one was one of my favorites of all time.

left 4 dead is a purely multiplayer game in the vein of CS:S and TF2. So NO a sequal does NOT HAVE TO CONTINUE A GODDAMN STORY. This game is a sequel. Thats a fact /rage. Left 4 dead essentially has no story because its a multiplayer game thats about a zombie apocalypse. Thats all the story there is.

If they made a Counterstrike 2 would it not be a sequel because it doesn't "continue a story"?

(sorry, this whole its an "expansion" thing has really become a pet peeve of mine)

I don't see how the allied AI is any smarter, personally. And changing the director AI could be a downloadable patch easily.

@ ViperAFK: I agree that a sequel doesn't have to continue a story. But the additions to this, for me personally, do not feel like a full-fledged sequel.

I felt severely underwhelmed with the demo. :(

I had a lot of 'judders', but I believe that may be down to my IDE 7,200 RPM HDD. Still, this game judders a lot more than anything else I've played...

Valve make the AI Director sound smarter than it really is. It's just a bunch of server side scripts that act on conditions. Counters while you play record information like bullets fired, heals performed, average health of players, things like that and the script has pre-determined values to do different things. It would have been really easy for Valve to Port the AI 2.0 to Left 4 Dead. In-fact it would have just been easier to port current L4D Maps to L4D2 and then give everyone L4D2 for free.

But whatever I paid my money, I even bought 5 extra copies for friends because I'm just that nice :p

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
