Anyone getting crashes all the time this is the fix that works for most. Left 4 dead 2 tries to write to this folder and doesn't have permission. You can turn off gore using lv to fix crashes or just give permission to the folder:

This worked for my friends getting constant crashes.

Can anyone tell me what differences there are in finding a game on the 360 version? I heard they were going to try and balance the teams better so it wasn't so one sided, don't know if that came to fruition. I assume the 360 version still uses dedicated servers at least?

Thanks Doli!! Ordered :) Still have to finish Batman and RE 5 first than will be right on it

Wow, I made the order on the 23 and it said I will get it on Dec. 1 but I got it today. It was free shipping but I didnt know it was free Air 2nd-day from FedEx.

edit: my friend's order was delayed from Dec 1 to the 15 and he said he ordered before me. He told me about the deal in the first place. :p

I guess they didn't focus much attention on bot AI ;)

Yeah the bot AI is really ****ing me off after only two or three goes. Sure, its an online game but it makes the single player frustrating at harder difficulty levels when the bots either lag behind, wont use grenades, are over reliant on melee to get hunters ect off your back (and thus taking foever to get to you) and happily walk right into your gun fire.

IMHO it's one of the games biggest short comings and one I'd like to see addressed since it's not uncommon for players to drop out of games ect and occasionally a single player game would be nice.

In any regard I've only just started playing it and I'd say its alright but ATM I'd rather be playing borderlands. It's fun but some of the new enemies are a tad annoying and the before mentioned CPU AI has erked me a tad in the games I've had. Haven't tried versus yet mind.

yeah I realise that...but as before people leave games, rage quit ect and you inevitably get left with bots on the team whether you start single player or not. It'd be nice not to have them be so useless when they are forced onto you. Yes some players are useless too but at least they can throw a pipe bomb when needed or whatever.

It's not a game killer, just something I expected them to have made progress on and I don't think they did. I'd have taken better AI over more weapons.

Hahahahahahahahaha

I feel sorry for any of those who pre-ordered the game or bought the game on release. It's 25% off today! I'm very glad I held off. But one question:

What is the difference features before the orignal L4D game (which I have) and L4D2?

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

:argh:

Should've waited one more week. Oh well.

But one question:

Try for yourself. 5 new campaigns, one of them has an amusement park with two (or more?) mini-games you can play for achievements. Melee weapons to replace the traditional pistol - bat, machete, guitar, pan, chainsaw, and a magnum. A couple of new rifles and shotguns. A defilibrator which takes the place of the health pack. A boomer bile that takes the place of the throwable weapons. Minor model updates to the traditional super infected (witch now walks during the day) and 4 new super infected.

Otherwise, more of the same. There's more than what I listed, but that's a general idea.

I've experienced a fair few bugs today. Mainly bot AI related. Bots that get stuck and wont move. Had one bot get stuck, as we progressed through the rest of the level the bot kept springing back to our position but was still stuck and unable to move so he was completely useless.

And the other bug I have had is poor performance. It's very strange though, when I first join a level everything is great 130+ FPS and the FPS is nice and steady. As soon as you get out of the first safe room in to the 2nd 'level' of a campaign the performance takes a complete dive and when I turn the FPS monitor on its bouncing from 10fps to 130fps every millisecond which is really irritating and very noticeable. I can make this go away by going in to the graphics settings and changing a setting like AA/AF or the graphical details (either by increasing or decreasing them) then the FPS goes back to 130FPS constant. Very strange issue and one that I don't experience on L4D (The original).

I wonder if this is an issue with my graphics cards their drivers or the game engine. I mean perhaps the increased detail in the sequel is maxing my video memory and changing a setting is flushing the memory or something? I dunno what it is but it happens as soon as I leave the 2nd or 3rd safe room in any campaign.

Five new campaigns, 3 new special infected, more difficult campaigns, alternate routes (sometimes various alleyways are blocked to make the survivors go different routes through a map), distance-based creshendo events and finales, Better storyline, better points system, melee weapons (including the almighty chainsaw), new weapons... and so on...

@Vice: I've had my share of bugs (including the famous "Reset Achievements" bug. I've had the performance drain too, but I only seem to get it on Dark Carnival 1. For some reason on that map when I get to the steep hill my framerate drops and then stays low until the safe room. I've got a 9800GTX graphics card, so I don't think its hardware related.

The only really annoying bug I've had is in versus where I start as a spectator and have to manually rejoin your team.

Why? we got the demo early and have been able to play since the second it was released, thats why I pre-ordered, 5 dollars off was just an added bonus.

All the self entitled people on the steam forums who pre-ordered and are now crying about how valve has "slapped them in the face" by having a sale on freakin BLACK FRIDAY make me sick.

Alt tab out of the game and back in when that happens, I have seen a lot of reports of crossfire/sli users having that happen and that fixes it.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just got my copy of Left4Dead 2 for the 360 today. Have had it for PC. While shopping for my loved ones I went ahead and purchased myself a little X Mas present. Amazon had it the other day for $39.99 and could not pass it up.

Question, is it possible to get campaign achievements in versus mode?

No :(

I played a couple of the campaigns before diving into versus mode, and as a result have very few of the achievements, despite having technically obtained them.

  • 2 months later...

Is the game worth buying now? There are only ~8,500 players online (according to Steam).

I think so, if you get don't pay full price. I just bought it for PC, got it for ?10 (1/3 of full price if you're not from the UK and want a comparison :)), so even for more of the same it's a pretty good deal. :) Haven't played it yet though, waiting until I've built my new PC.

    • Wow, Microsoft IS cooking lately... This only shows that they COULD improve, they just chose not to for whatever reasons. That obsession with AI was destroying them from the inside out.

It closes the remaining gaps with qBittorrent and fixes the Windows settings/tray/splash issues several of you hit. Fixed Settings now actually save. A whole class of preferences — speed limits (and the alternative limits), max active downloads, seed ratio, listen port, max connections, DHT/uTP/encryption, VPN interface, kill switch and proxy — weren't being persisted and reset to defaults on every launch. They now round-trip correctly. (Thanks to everyone who reported "the upload limit always goes back to 0".) Splash and tray toggles stick on Windows. Turning off the startup animation (or "close to tray") no longer reverts — the Windows registry stored these booleans as integers and the UI was misreading them. Close-to-tray hint. The first time the window hides to the tray you get a one-time notification, so the app doesn't look like it vanished (Windows 11 tucks new tray icons into the overflow). macOS Dock icon size. The icon filled its canvas edge-to-edge and rendered larger than neighbouring apps; it now uses the standard safe-area padding. Native file picker language. The "Torrent file / All files" filter in the open dialog follows the app language instead of being hard-coded. Added — qBittorrent parity Alternative speed limits toggle — a turtle button in the toolbar flips your throttled limits on/off instantly, independent of the scheduler. Follow system theme — switch light/dark automatically with the OS (Settings → Appearance). Pre-allocate disk space — reserve the full file size up front to reduce fragmentation (Settings → Downloads). Recheck data on add — optionally force a hash check when adding a torrent, so existing or partial files on disk are detected. Port status indicator — a 🔴 dot in the status bar shows whether your listen port looks reachable (UPnP/NAT-PMP + listen state; fully local, no external check). Add torrent from URL — File → Add torrent from URL (Ctrl+U) fetches a remote .torrent and routes it through the normal add dialog. Export .torrent — right-click a torrent → Export .torrent to save its metadata file. Already there (in case you missed it) Watch folder — auto-add .torrent files dropped into a monitored directory (Settings → Files). This release just surfaces it. Incomplete files already carry a .!bt suffix until they finish. Under the hood Regression tests for the settings-persistence and Windows boolean bugs. A new Qt Quick Test harness covering the startup splash and the design-system widgets. • Disabling open on hover, great! That was so stupid! They need to do a fix, where if a network share is disconnected, it doesn't hang when opening "This PC" for 20 seconds.
