I searched and I couldn't find it here, so I decided to start it, the official Left 4 Dead 2 The Passing topic! It's coming out this week with what seems to be some pretty cool new features. What you guys think?

Apparently the fallen survivor exists in the game already as is seen in the intro clip, yet valve had not set it due to some bugs

What's wrong with the L4D2 thread?

Also, this article from today says it's coming this week. The author can't count through:

The Passing brings Left 4 Dead 2's survivors together with three of the original gang--Bill, Francis, Louis and Zoey...

And this was posted last week. A new uncommon infected, weapons and modes.

Nothing is wrong with the L4D2 thread, tho i figured since this is going to be the first DLC for it, and its been anticipated, it should deserve its own thread :)

Hate to say it but I personally think the other thread is fine for it, I mean Fallout 3 topic had all the DLC discussion in that and Assassin Creed 2 but oh well, not up to me.

I don't think I will be buying this.

It would've been nice to put actual information in the opening post to show me what its about and how much it is etc.

Honestly , I really hate it when people insist on putting every DLC and expansion in the same official thread. small DLC and such, yeah sure.

But bigger expansion like DLC and expansions they really should have their own threads, the main game official threads get way to huge and noone's able to follow the conversations. Besides the main thread's topic is about the game, an expansion is really a separate discussion and should be in a new thread to avoid mixing pure game discussion and expansion discussion.

anyway original gang back, sounds good to me, I haven't grabbed the sequel yet, but the new people really didn't interest me. I'll probably pick it up whenever the game ends up on the games on demand downloads.

I've decided to merge this DLC thread into the old existing Left 4 Dead 2 thread, and give the older thread an official tag.

(I'm basing this off the way Team Fortress 2 update packs are posted in the huge official TF2 thread in Computer Gaming.)

It's true though; one of the original four is supposed to die, thus "three of the original gang" :p

It would've been nice to put actual information in the opening post to show me what its about and how much it is etc.

For a quick general summary, have a look at the front page. (insert shameless promotion here :p)

April 19, 2010 - L4D Team

With "The Passing" due out soon on the PC and Xbox 360, we figured we'd whet your appetite with a rundown of the new Achievements you'll be able to earn later this week.

Let's start with the straight-forward ones we'd be crazy not to include: Surviving the campaign, playing some Scavenge, using the new weapons, playing a Midnight Riders song, and smashing up some Survivors with a Charger.

Torch Bearer

Survive The Passing Campaign.

Port of Scavenge

Play 5 full games of Scavenge on The Port.

Fore!

Knock off the heads of 18 infected with the golf club.

Til It Goes Click

Using the M60, kill 25 infected without letting go of the trigger.

Killing Them Swiftly To This Song

Play the new Midnight Riders song on a jukebox.

Wedding Crasher

As the Charger, grab a Survivor and crash them through 8 chairs at the wedding.

Alright. Now onto the spoilery ones. Some of these might not make sense until you play The Passing--like "Cache Grab", which involve foot lockers, a new addition to the Left 4 Dead 2 universe.

Cache Grab

Open 5 foot lockers.

Okay. So we know one of the original Left 4 Dead Survivors is off shooting zombies in Heaven--but what are the other three up to? Covering your ass.

Kite Like a Man

Kill a tank only with damage from the original Survivors.

The "Grave Robber" achievement ties into another addition to the L4D2 universe, in the form of a new Uncommon Common: the Fallen Survivor.

Grave Robber

Collect 10 items dropped by a Fallen Survivor.

And of course, we saved the best for last: the "Mutant Overlord" achievement, which you can only get by playing six Mutations.

Right about now you might be asking yourself, "What in the hell is a Mutation?" "Why do I have to play six of them?" "Are there more than six?" "Where's that smell coming from?" All good questions. Look for most of the answers in our Wednesday blog

Just finished playing the new DLC, I wasn't impressed at all. Do not read on if you don't want any spoilers. Well, I'm not exactly giving away the name of the survivor or anything, but I am giving away some general information on how the DLC played out.

The levels themselves were fine, but the old survivors were so lifeless. They literally sat there in a single pose with no animations or emotion in their face the entire time.

This is the quality I expect from a mapper in the community, someone who doesn't have access to the tools Valve has to create new, unique scenes and maps. When I saw the promo I was extremely excited because it looked as though there was going to be a higher level of interaction, but instead the old survivors were separated from the new survivors by a tall building and balcony.

Also, the death of the survivor was extremely anti-climatic and poorly done. If they really wanted to make it interesting they should have made the fallen survivor a new special infected, or one that just appeared in the finale of that specific map. Possibly an extremely large, tank-like creature with a special attack or power, and of course an appearance that strongly resembles the fallen survivor. That would have been much more interesting. Also, I didn't hear the other survivors even mention the death of the fallen survivor. In the first game they go on and on about how sad they are that one of their friends just died.

Overall, the DLC just didn't feel right to me in the slightest bit. I know Valve can do much better than this, and it's still unknown to me why they don't really put forth the effort they should. I know I wouldn't have let the DLC go out the door like this, especially when it had so much potential.

I know you can all complain to me that it's free, and for that I'm grateful. One, because I wouldn't have paid for it knowing this was all I was getting, and two, they didn't have to bother at all releasing it. I just don't feel that Valve is meeting the standard that they themselves have set when they create games. Especially since so much time went into developing this. Oh well. :(

Edit: Apparently the XBox version actually has survivors with animations in it. In my PC playthrough it was completely lifeless, but in a video that was just showed to me there was far more conversation and actual movement. At least that addresses one of the biggest issues I was having with the DLC. Now only if the survivor's death was a little more interesting. :(

I totally agree, I mean it was fun to play for a DLC, but the story and the elements were so bad. You absolutely had no interactions with the original cast at all, except like for really short and meaningless. I was against Valve's decision in deciding to kill off a survivor, but the news of the death of the original survivors almost has no feeling and emotions behind it. It's basically the new survivors all along, overall I'd have to give this DLC a generous 3 out of 5, was expecting a lot more :argh:

damn its a whole gig

It was 4GB for me for some reason, took a bit to download (especially since Steam was using the wrong server, fixed that and speed increased by 6 times.

I don't know if you could really call it a spoiler (since it was shown by Valve themselves a few days ago who died), but still...

I do agree about how the old Survivors were separated from the new ones, it was strange how you couldn't get to them (How the hell did they get up there? there's no door)

Hell, I probably wouldn't have noticed Bill there if it wasn't for the fact that it was shown a few days ago by somebody at Valve playing it.

    • RevPDF 4.5.0 by Razvan Serea RevPDF is a free, fully offline PDF editor for Windows, macOS, and Linux that lets you edit text and images directly inside PDF files — no internet connection, no account, and no cloud uploads required. Unlike bloated alternatives that demand subscriptions and constant connectivity, RevPDF fits in under 60MB on desktop while delivering a complete editing toolkit: annotate, redact, sign, compress, split, merge, convert, and reorganize pages, all processed locally on your device. Smart font matching ensures edited text blends seamlessly with the original, and multi-language support includes RTL scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew. Where most PDF editors force you to choose between features and simplicity, RevPDF manages both. You can build interactive forms from scratch with text fields, checkboxes, and dropdowns, permanently redact sensitive data before sharing, draw freehand on contracts and diagrams, and add custom watermarks — all without a single file leaving your machine. Edit Text and Images Directly Inside PDFs RevPDF supports true inline PDF editing — not just annotation layers on top of a document, but actual modification of existing text and images within the file. A smart font-matching engine identifies the font used in the original document and applies it automatically when you make edits, so changes blend naturally with the surrounding content. You can reposition elements, resize images, and update text across single pages or entire documents. RevPDF 4.5.0 release notes: This is one of the biggest updates to RevPDF yet. A lot of things people have been asking for are finally here. New Features Auto Redaction Permanently redact sensitive text and areas from your PDFs before sharing. • Interesting. I'm not using a VPN with my phone. I tried though my home internet (Rogers) and my cellular internet (Telus) and both trigger the dialog above.
