just played it today. Twice. I didn't find it interesting. The level was bland and I felt the interaction with the past survivors was severely lacking. It was also really easy, maybe just me and the group I play with are seasoned players but I felt even on expert this was a walk in the park.

There really was just nothing in it for me. (N)

Agreed about the shortness. The campaign was marginally better than Crash Course. But it was free, so eh.

On the other hand, realism versus is nuts. No more running off in groups of two during scavenge events; everyone must stick together. Boomers and jockeys (if done right) suddenly turn into the most dangerous SI in realism versus.

It was 4GB for me for some reason, took a bit to download (especially since Steam was using the wrong server, fixed that and speed increased by 6 times.

I don't know if you could really call it a spoiler (since it was shown by Valve themselves a few days ago who died), but still...

I do agree about how the old Survivors were separated from the new ones, it was strange how you couldn't get to them (How the hell did they get up there? there's no door)

Hell, I probably wouldn't have noticed Bill there if it wasn't for the fact that it was shown a few days ago by somebody at Valve playing it.

It was alright for being free, tho I think with all the buzz they could have done a better job integrating the survivors, the storyline and the gameplay

i had to collect 16 gas cans weird

Also R.I.P. Bill, I thought he was an awesome character, no need to have killed him off, especially when at the finale of Blood Harvest, all of the survivors escaped, but that's Valve for you, what do you guys think ?

The Passing on Expert IS FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF, restarted 10 times and still couldn't get it down. TWO TANKS IS WTF

We had 3 at one point. Should have been 4 or 5 IMO the end sequence with the petrol cans is simply to large for you to run away from the tanks. Made it to easy.

Yeah dude that was a major spoiler. I'll live but yeah, for those that had been avoiding too much in the way of announcements you just gave it away. =/

Anyway I agree on the lack of emotion...the death was handled poorly and now feels more like a marketing gimmick than anything else. Certainly the in game emotional effect is rather empty. I think it'll work a lot better when they do the DLC for the original and can build it up better.

What I don't get is also why the survivors declined to team up because they "work better as their group". Bill just died and Louis is hurt...saying they are a strong team at that point seems a bit odd. Guess it's just another part of the story telling that fails to deliver with this campaign.

I'm seriously considering picking up this game. I played the demo for 9 hours before the game was released and really enjoyed the teamwork aspect. It is very unlikely that I will participate in any mode apart from the Survival mode (the one with four real players working as a team with no real opponents and play against the AI).

Will I be able to play around 30-40 hours?

30-40 for life of the game? Very, very easily.

I was debating on whether to wait for Bad Company 2 but it doesn't feel like it's my time of game. I'm really really tempted to buy this game. :shiftyninja: Decisions, decisions. Someone convince me (a player who only enjoyed the survival mode A LOT!).

Bad Company 2 is also a really good game, however I'm sure that you can replay Left 4 Dead for at least 300-400 hours, I would also suggest that you give campaign mode a shot, it's really fun, in fact that's all I play on L4D, the online campaign, L4D can be replayed over and over thanks to the AI Engine, which guarantees that no two games will be the same exact, I also would say you give Bad Company 2 a shot since something similar happened to me. The first time I tried COD-MW2, I did not like it, yet I gave it another shot and I fell in love with the game. Best of luck to you pal :)

Thanks for the feedback. I was about to commit to buying Left 4 Dead 2 but came upon an AMAZING deal. I found a digital copy of BC2 for $18. I'm currently downloading it and will report the results in the BC 2 thread. I had to go with the deal since it's at a much better discount than L4D2 and I always liked the strategy aspect, which Modern Warfare 2 was severely lacking. (I found MW2 too trigger happy to be my cup of tea.)

Glad that you were able to make a choice, I'm sure L4D2 will have some nice deals coming up

Have weather effects always been this awesome?

I thought Hard Rain had slightly better effects.

I felt that the visibility in Hard Rain was set to a shorter distance than the Passing.

I don't know if that really has more to do that when the rain hits the first time you are in the vicinity of a sugar cane field and then have to walk through it.

I remember the first time I played that campaign; I was impressed.

Not being able to hear your teammates was icing on the cake for me.

Maybe it's just the fact that it was not unexpected this time around, it doesn't have the same impact for me.

The game needs more campaigns. I can only play the same ones that it ships with a finite amount of times before it becomes super boring.

I think they should have given us Spitter Bile as a weapon like the Boomer Bile and have it do damage to infected when they run over it, perhaps slow them down considerably. Would have been something else to throw.

I guess my biggest gripe with the game is the lack of variety. Same weapons, same sounds, same levels. It just needs some more variety. The uncommon common is to me one of the best new things they added it makes hordes more interesting but I don't feel that they took it far enough.

You should try some of the custom campaigns over at www.l4dmaps.com. Some of them are really well made, long, and fun to play. I'd particularly recommend Dead City II and Death Aboard 2 (also available for L4D1).

Wow am I late. Really wanting to try this game out but being in AUS I don't want to have to bother with the censored version.

Anyone in US willing to help me out and gift L4D2 to my steam account so I can get the uncensored version in all its gore glory.

I'll PayPal the funds and go from there.

nb. Prefer someone who has been on the forums a while now so I don't get totally scammed.

Cheers.

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
