Be careful about this, it's generally better to wait for the final RC1 build when it's been signed off.
Unless there's an error in the build, Build 1 will become the official RC1 build. There will not be any browser code changes between builds. Occasionally there's a second or third build, but it's almost always to fix some l10 language file minutia. So it's safe to use it.

I think that at large sizes, the new icon is amazing. However, I'm not a fan of the 16x16 icon. The fox seems too 'red'. I guess it's not much of a problem now though, because Windows 7 uses large taskbar icons.

Yeah, I think it looks really crisp and nice on OS X. :) Almost standing out more than the other app icons. :p

Agreed. The logo's outline color is too strong.
Yeah, I think it looks really crisp and nice on OS X.
The shadow is clipped. Mozilla should create a slightly smaller icon for OS X.

Hey, don't take any offense, because I don't really want to start an argument, but I'd like to point out that your analogy isn't valid.

You see, a car is a machine whose primary purpose is transportation. The "paint job" and it's appearance in general is completely superficial and trivial.

An icon on the other hand is an image, that serves NO purpose other than appearance. Thus, changing the appearance is far from trivial.

In this situation, they are changing appearance, which is what makes an icon, an icon. A proper analogy would be if someone changed the thing in a car, that made it a car in the first place (possibly the engine? body?). In which case, yes, I would call that a new car.

But the icons are pretty much the same (the old and the "new" one)... you have to compare both at large size to noticed a diference...

When can we expect the final version?

At this rate their going, i say early july... doesn't look like it's coming out in june, and as for

the new icon. im not to impress with it, if it ain't broke why fix it. stick with the old icon.

Fair enough. But you're wrong. :)

It's an overhauled icon, that is new. Anyway, I link http://blog.mozilla.com/faaborg/ again, since it goes over the whole matter in lots of detail.

Well, The new icon is nicer at a larer size, but on the superbar with large icons it looks kinda crappy compared to the old one, it's not as sharp and has a weird looking reddish outline.

I agree..It just looks weird..

Well back to Opera after a month's use of 3.5 betas/RC..Firefox is just too slow...

Will this auto-update to the RC when it's ready?

And it looks and acts quite well on Mac OS X, although not quite as smooth as Safari. And with Snow Leopard coming up, it'd be nice to get a 64-bit version of Firefox 3.5.

Unfortunately, I have to agree :( Since using a browser with the Webkit engine in, Firefox seems to be worse at rendering webpages for me. Also, the application doesn't load as fast.

Using Firefox and the Gecko engine seems clunky to me now. Mozilla really need to work on that next. They have enough good features and extension support helps, but with it being so slow for me, I cannot use it :(

About this release, I do prefer the new icon. After reading Alex Faarborg's blog, it appears they wish the red outline to be there in the 16x16px icon. Does anybody have a screenshot of what it looks like on the Windows 7 taskbar, with large icons, please? :)
