Minifig
Dragonica is a pseudo-3D action side-scrolling MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) by Barunson Interactive. Development has been ongoing since March 2006. Like many online games, operation of Dragonica is relegated to different publishers for their respective regions. It is a free-to-play game with a cash shop. How much does Dragonica cost? This is a completely free game with a cash shop Why are we playing the European version? I'm American! The North American version of this game is run by some nice people, except being nice doesn't mean anything when you don't know how to actually keep servers stable. They're also about 2 months behind other versions of this game so we can either blow our summer playing the EU version (which doesn't give a lot of lag at all) or waiting until August for the NA version. The GM staff also hasn't said anything about region locking, but if something terrible like that does happen, we can always try again in August. So do I really not have to spend money? From the way things have been looking, that's completely the case. Cash shop items for the most part are purely cosmetic. The only real thing that you could waste away your money on are for enchant protect scrolls, but even then you can avoid it. This looks like maple story! This game is much more quest and action oriented. Your time spent leveling will be with other people instead of normal grinding. So how do the classes work? There are 4 main classes currently and at level 20, you can pick one of 2 paths for each class. At 40 you progress again along the same track. Pretty simple stuff. Warrior: Warriors are the primary melee class of Dragonica. They carry a big sword and at their job change will either start to carry a big 2 handed sword or a sword and shield. Knights are defensively oriented while Gladiators are all about getting in everyone's face and beating poo poo up. In mission maps, this class needs to take 2 hits to raise the hit counter while others need only 1 (more on this later). Magician: Magicians are one of the two ranged classes, and they branch off into either Acolytes (the healing class) or Battlemages (a combo machine). They have a few defensive spells later on, but they're pretty squishy regardless. They're also one of the easiest classes to level solo early on because their x attack can be spammed while moving. Archer: Archers are the other ranged class, and later on they will focus on either crossbows or regular bows. These guys are a great mix of single-target and aoe damage, leading them to be great for running mission maps with because of their versatility. They also do a huge amount of damage during second job from 20-40 and made a lot of people happy. In PvP, they're complete ******s since you will die to them if they manage to get you into the air. -My favorite class. Thief: Thieves are the other melee class, focusing on getting in, doing a shitton of damage, and then getting right out again. Assassins are a fantastic PvP class while Jesters (with hp potions or an Acolyte) will just obliterate mobs en masse. They're pretty squishy because of always having to be in the middle of things, but honestly, things die so fast with these guys it's not too big of an issue. Okay what about stats and skills? Every level up your stats will rise automatically You will also get 20 skill points per level to add to your skill tree: Click here to build your own skill tree. Some skills cost as little as 5 points to raise while others could cost 30. Alright I'm curious how do I sign up? 1. Make an account on the EU Dragonica website. 2. Post in this thread who your character is. The website: EU Dragonica. So where do I sign up? Click here to sign up. Where can I download it? Click here to download. Register your IP on the website if you want to play. Like with all other Gpotato games there are no plans for a wipe after open beta unless game breaking exploits are found. Video of goons playing in the closed beta Typical mission run for lv25+ goons. More Videos.
ichi
Doesn't look bad, but since the website says nothing about this I'll take a wild guess: windows only, right?

obiwong
i don't understand how group/raid mechanics can work in a side scrolling game all the encounters would be trivial because there's no where to move i read about this game a couple months ago... ...just seems like rehashed Maple Story and i've seen my sister and girlfriend play Maple Story, it's just no thinking button mashing
LOC Veteran Posted July 3, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2009 It's nothing like Maple Story except it's a side scroller. It's 3-D and VERY nice looking (it runs on the same engine as Oblivion and Fallout 3 for christ sake lol). It's not just a button masher (which it does have) but there are is a combo system, crafting, all sorts of stuff you'd expect from a normal MMORPG. The group mechanic works like most other MMO's you group up in a party and go into an instanced area and fight all the monsters on each map (from 1-4 maps depending on group size and difficulty, and the amount of monsters differs depending on group size also) until you get to the boss of course. Then you get seperate loot rewards (you also get loot drops during the run) depending on the score you get at the end. It's actually a very good game. I enjoyed the THQ beta, except for the fact they only had one server and one channel open. This go round THQ will have more than one server and more than one channel, so it works for me. The EU Gpotato version is laggy for me, but not to laggy. One wonders if it'll be IP blocked though since their other EU games are.
Kondrath
There's no one to talk to where I live... My only options are MMORPGS... XD I think I'm gonna give this one a try. I haven't played an MMO in quite a while. Maybe since 06.

Kondrath
One thing that's really annoyed me so far is that you can't change the resolution of the game. Why would they leave out that feature?...

Give it a shot before you think that, you may be pleasantly surprised.
Skulltrail
Ugh, gPotato. Looks like a mesh between Maple Story and Nostale.
LOC Veteran Posted July 4, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 4, 2009 Ugh, gPotato. Looks like a mesh between Maple Story and Nostale. Yes but gPotato is for EU only, it's IP blocked. IAHGames runs the International version which includes the US, but they just announced they will implement an IP block as well when they launch out of beta. Since you are in the US like me, you should play on the THQICE version if your going to play it at all. And it's hardly comparable to Maple Story let alone Nostale (ew). :)
Minifig
Yes but gPotato is for EU only, it's IP blocked. Not anymore. I'm from the states and I've been playing Dragonica for about 3 weeks.
LOC Veteran Posted July 4, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 4, 2009 Really? Interesting, I tried logging in about 9 days ago and I was blocked. Guess I'll try again. Regardless, I'd rather play on the THQ server since it's in Dallas, Texas and not in London or Paris or wherever they are hosting it for the gPotato version :D
Kondrath
I'm kinda liking this game! It's not as boring as some other because of the fighting style. If my younger brother started to play this game on another computer, would we end up being banned because sharing the same IP address? I don't think so, right? Kondrath
I reached level 12 and got seriously bored with this game. The quests suck so far. They're all the same thing. Kill 10 cute creatures and bring back their remains. Mission maps? Same... Defeat all enemies, then the boss. Repeat x5. Next mission is the same thing... Does it get any better? Or does it keep repeating?
The_Wizard
I've just finished downloading it now so hopefully i'll be playing it in a bit :) Looks quite good and its been ages since I last played an MMO.
LOC Veteran Posted July 7, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 7, 2009 I'm still shocked people don't believe me when I tell them that Dragonica uses the SAME engine as Oblivion (and Morrowind) and Fallout 3, among many other games. It's like, omg how could it use the same engine blah blah. But, it does, buahahahah!
Ansa
I'm about to start downloading this game since I've already registered on gpotato. Anyway, I'd think it would be a good idea to make a post here and check how things were going for everyone. Lets hope this MMO breaks with a pattern here, because I have a history with MMOs and most are just the same. Cheers & see you guys online, Ansa. PS. I'll post my nickname later, when I'm done creating a character. PPS: Also, first post on Neowin! :D (Also... Sorry for stealing ur style LOC [for the MGC banner], but it's awesome.)
