They won't bring in video refs as they say it will slow down the game too much.

Well, I don't want Football to end up like Rugby Union or League.

Disagreed. When you look at how high the steaks are in modern football, it could easily be argued that the interruption is worth it. Imagine being a Chelsea fan after last year's CL semi. If you where supporting a team, and feel bad refereeing potentially cost your side their first CL win, you'd be absolutely gutted and peed off. I understand the argument against and I agree to an extent, but considering the steaks, I just feel it is an absolute must. Hell they use it in Cricket without it causing massive amounts of disruption to the game.

I dunno about that one, advertising wouldn't really work as that would require the stoppages to be of determinate and predictable length, and as each decision would be unique I couldn't see that happening.

What they do here sometimes, if the advertisement starts to cut into the actual play, is to minimise it to a small box at the bottom of the screen! These filler advertisements are usually very short in duration. Many ways to skin the cat as it were!

I don't agree.. the game is stopped anyways when the ref runs to one of the linesmen or 4th official to ask them if he's not sure of smth, it is also stopped before a penalty is taken, before a corner kick is taken or when teams take freekicks from close range.. why not give the 4th official ability to see replays during that time and give the right decision? This would also help refs gaining some respect which they are losing very quickly atm.. If interruption is too big a deal then maybe only have a system like NFL where the coaches can challenge a call and then it goes to replays? So for example if a player dives and ref awards a penalty.. opposing manager (or team captain?) can challenge the call and the 4th official can review it quickly and award a yellow card and cancel the penalty.. there can be a system to minimise interruptions, where there's a will there's a way..

Advertising is everywhere and in ever big sport.. I don't know any sport without advertising..

BTW Rappy, did you see the stories about Ashton announcing his retirement soon?

I did but I wouldn't be a surprised if it happened because the last time he played was nearly 15 months ago...a bit crazy when you think about that.

Fears are growing that West Ham's injured former England striker Dean Ashton could be forced to retire from the game at the age of 25.

Ashton broke his left ankle while training with England in August 2006, ahead of a friendly with Greece.

An announcement about his future is likely to be made later this month, BBC Sport understands.

He joined West Ham from Norwich for ?7.25m in January 2006, having started his career at Crewe.

No-one from West Ham was prepared to comment, although privately club officials have accepted he is unlikely to play again.

Sources close to Ashton said they did not expect any news on "his situation" to be announced for "another week to two weeks".

Manager Gianfranco Zola chose his words carefully when speaking about Ashton's injury after training on Saturday ahead of Sunday's home game against Everton, which the visitors won 2-1.

Responding to a question about the striker he said there would be an update "soon" on his situation.

Ashton - who had surgery in the spring of 2009 - had been unable to take part in training, he said, as he worked on his personal fitness "while next steps were assessed".

Zola added: "When something like this happens, it is very much personal. Me as a manager I am here to make sure I can give him all the support he needs. I understand that it is quite a difficult time for him."

A day later, after the Everton match, Zola insisted nothing definite had been decided.

"Until someone tells me he is not going to make it, I am still confident he is going to come back," said the Italian.

"For the boy and for us we hope he will make it. I can't say more than that.

"Dean is working his way back on his own and with his own physio. I don't know when I will hear anything."

After arriving in east London at the start of 2006, Ashton helped West Ham to the FA Cup final four months later against Liverpool and scored in the 3-3 draw at the Millennium Stadium before his side lost on penalties.

His performances that season earned him an England call-up for the friendly with Greece in August 2006, but he broke his ankle in training for that game and missed the whole of the 2006-07 season.

He came back to make 35 appearances, scoring 11 goals in the 2007-08 campaign.

In June 2008, Ashton signed a new five-year contract at Upton Park, when Alan Curbishley was manager, and earned an England cap under Fabio Capello, playing against Trinidad & Tobago.

A favourite with the Hammers fans, they were chanting his nickname 'Deano' again after he scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Wigan on the opening day of the 2008-09 season.

But in September 2008, in Zola's first training session after taking over from Curbishley, Ashton sprained his ankle and has not played since.

His injury situation has been another headache for Zola, whose team are third from bottom in the Premier League with 10 points from 12 games, in which they have scored a total of 16 goals.

The Italian is also without England striker Carlton Cole, who has a hamstring injury, leaving the club with no established Premier League forwards available for selection.

Against Everton, Zola partnered 20-year-old Zavon Hines with close-season recruit Guillermo Franco.

Alex Ferguson receives fine and touchline ban for comments!

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has received a two-match touchline ban for his comments about referee Alan Wiley's fitness.

The Football Association handed the 67-year-old a four-game ban, with two of those suspended until the end of the 2010-11 season.

Ferguson has also been fined ?20,000 and warned about his future conduct.

He made disparaging remarks about Wiley's fitness after his side's 2-2 draw with Sunderland on 3 October.

Ferguson apologised to the official for any embarrassment caused and pleaded guilty to the FA's charge of improper conduct, but requested a personal hearing.

Peter Griffiths QC, chairman of the FA's four-man regulatory commission, said: "Each member of the commission recognised Sir Alex Ferguson's achievements and stature within the game.

"Having said that, it was made clear to Sir Alex that with such stature comes increased responsibilities.

Lampard's out for 3 weeks and JT will probably not be able to play in the friendly match between England and Brazil.

According to some sources Drogba is injured and will be out for the next three weeks, with a fractured rib although neither BBC nor the Official Chelsea site have confirmed it.Evans' karate lessons have been successful.

Arsenal fear Robin van Persie may miss rest of season as Holland striker suffers horror injury

Arsenal's Premier League title hopes suffered an enormous setback last night when striker Robin van Persie sustained a serious ankle injury in Holland's friendly international match against Italy in Pescara.

Van Persie was rushed to hospital after just 12 minutes of the game when he collapsed to the ground following a heavy challenge from Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Holland coach Bert van Marwijk said: 'I was shocked when I saw it. It doesn't look good. I feel very sad for Robin and Arsenal.'

Van Persie is expected to be examined in Amsterdam today by renowned ankle specialist Professor Niek van Dijk. The surgeon has previously treated Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Michael Owen.

A team doctor said he feared Van Persie had ruptured ligaments in his ankle, an injury that would keep him out for at least three months. But if further examination reveals the ankle is broken, the star could miss the rest of the season.

Van Persie has scored eight goals for Arsenal in this campaign and his impressive run of form - his goals have all come in the last 11 matches - has prompted many observers to cite Arsenal, currently in second place behind Chelsea, as title favourites. But that dream looked in ruins when the striker screamed in agony as he was carried from the pitch on a stretcher.

It's a shame about RvP messing his ankle up, and even more of a shame that Dean Ashton will probably have to announce his retirement soon due to an ankle injury. I liked Ashton as a player, but it just does not look like he is ever going to recover enough to play football at the top level.

I've broken my ankle in the past and badly sprained it again only recently. It's not exactly a pleasant experience and it is an injury that can affect you well into the future.

    • To give context to everybody, I bought about 2 sets of RAM, ddr4, 3200, 64 gb, 2 years ago. It costed me 150 usd for each set. If you buy RAM now you only incentivate companies to sell you expensive stuff, as Nvidia did.
