I am pretty sure that it's simply an automatic penalty (9 points IIRC), as far as I am aware none of their actual results are changed, they simply lose the points from their total.

How would it effect the rest of the Premier League season?

All Portsmouth's results so far would be wiped out and the points removed from the teams who beat or drew with them. The goals for and against would also be expunged. This would give an immediate boost to teams like Liverpool, who surprisingly lost 2-0 to Portsmouth in December. The sides most effected would be Manchester United and Arsenal, who both dished out hidings home and away to Pompey this season.

Personally i think the Premier League are doing everything to stop this happening as it'll look bad for them on the whole which is why they'll let the Football League deal with it when (let's face it they are) they get relegated.

We lost to them at home so it won't matter to us either. We've got to play them away last but 1 game, it'll be interesting to see if they survive that long.

I see it as anything that happened against Portsmouth is removed, so points / goals scored / goals conceded would be removed. No would get any more points but a lot of clubs would probably lose some.

Not to mention I thought that the PL had put a transfer ban on them until they sorted their finances out :/

Well its not up for us fans to say if they are insolvent or not. ?Its up for the club and HMRC.

There is a transfer ban, but that covers only transfers to and from clubs on a permanent basis. ?We can still do loan signings and sign players who are out of contract (free agents)

As for the wages bit, well you never know Chainrai might be paying for that or they have the money from transfer to pay them. ?Then there is also future income. So saying we're insolvent is quite a big statement that could well fall flat! Plus the league may have kept back some of the money (at one point we asked them to!). ? Staff and Players have got payed (all be it late), an insolvent company would not be able to do that (because they have no cash, we do)

The thing with Pompey and the League is to take what they say with a pinch of salt, they keep twisting and turning and you will never get to hear the real truth.?

Plus this issue with the HMRC is a bit of a muddle. ?The club say certain parts of it they accept and have offered to pay some off now, but there this winding up also includes a tax bill the club disputes. ?They took this to court and lost, but the judge said because the club may well have good ground they can appeal, which I think they have. ?But HMRC are being unkind and won't remove it from this, they say it's a delaying tatic, well it might be but how can they ask for it now when it's being disputed in a different court case!

Plus we may have new buyers. ?You know something like other clubs are infact relying on to keep them ticking over!?

The reason why we're in this mess is simply because all the previous owners are a bunch of crooks with no business sense. ? ?I have concerns about the current one, so far most of them have links to one another and not very legal ones at that!?

We're going to do a statement of affairs, this could well prove we are solvent and have infact got future income that will clear this all away! The League are that worried about HMRC they may well ask the clubs if they want some TV money now or at least let pompey have theres.

I would not be suprised if another club in the league gets it back against the wall. ?I'm sure some of them would be up a creak without a paddle if the owners pulled out!

You aren't wrong on that one, pretty much every club in the league is in debt, so if you look at it that way, there isn't a club in the league that would technically meet the definition of solvent. Gotta be honest I am starting to get the impression that pompey's future is starting to look somewhat bleak, but I do hope they don't go under.

Although I will agree that the HMRC are being a bit hard, to them the club is just another business, and they have to do everything legally and by the book.

I would imagine the Premier League will try and keep you afloat until the end of the season, so they can keep their status as being the most prettiest and most bestest league in the world.

After you are relegated they will bin you off, and you will cease to exist unless you somehow find a serious buyer.

Mikael Silvestre has become fed up with Arsenal boss Ars?ne Wenger and will quit the club at the end of the season, according to The Mirror.

Despite some extended runs in the first team last term after moving from Manchester United, the 32-year-old defender has since settled into a fringe role with the emergence of Thomas Vermaelen.

And the Frenchman is reported to be so unhappy with how low he has sunk in Wenger's estimations that he has decided to quit Ashburton Grove in the summer.

With Philippe Senderos on loan at Everton, Silvestre had expected to be named in the matchday squad for the midweek Premier League clash against Liverpool as back-up for Vermaelen, William Gallas and left-back Gael Clichy.

Sol Campbell and Armand Traore were included instead, and it is said that the former Inter player lost his cool in front of his team-mates when he learned of this latest snub.

Even more frustrating for Silvestre is that he allegedly knocked back the advances of Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window because he thought he remained a valued member of Wenger's squad.

My brother said exactly the same thing when he read that and also added Bendtner to that list. I don't understand why he hates Bendtner so much i think hes an alright player. Thing is though will Wenger replace them with new signings or give the youth players a chance.

I hope he never leaves.. I want him to retire with us.. wishful thinking if we keep going so season after season.. we need trophies to keep and attract new players and the management at Ashburton Grove should decide where they want his club to be.. do they want us to be a top club or just a club that struggles to hold on to top 4 spot.. coz it will be even harder to be in top 4 next year with Villa, Everton, City and Spuds getting stronger

It?s been reported that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger apparently made an 11th hour attempt to sign Everton?s former Manchester United striker Louis Saha on deadline day of the January transfer window.

The Gunners? striking problems have been well documented this season, and Wenger felt the situation was so bad that drastic action was called for.

Everton David Moyes, however, wasn?t interested and the bid was rejected outright by the Merseyside club, according to reports.

Javier Mascherano has insisted he will never play for Manchester City.

The Argentine says that City can pay as much as they want for players - but they you 'can't buy history'.

The 25-year-old, who himself is one of several big names linked with City in recent times, insists he could never be lured to Eastlands.

"City have bought some very good players and they have a very good team, but I will say one thing - you can buy players, but you cannot buy history," he said.

"I certainly don't want to play for City.

"You can buy stars, you can spend a lot of money to be in the top four, more than us I know, but you can't buy what we have at Anfield.

"Here we play with the history of the club behind us. We don't have their money but we are proud to play for Liverpool.

"I know that they have the money and they are building a good side but I am still so proud to play for Liverpool."

Liverpool travel to City on Sunday, and Mascherano knows defeat would leave the Manchester side in pole-position to claim fourth place.

"It is normal for Liverpool to play under pressure all the time, but maybe not for City," he said.

"And although they have spent a lot of money to reach the top four, and have some good players, so do we.

"I think City respect Liverpool because of our history. We will fight until the end."

Mascherano will not get the chance to face his compatriot and close-friend Carlos Tevez in the match as he is currently back in Argentina after the premature birth of his daughter.

"We know it will be good for us if Carlito cannot play because we know how good he is," he said.

"I have spoken to him this week but not about football, but because I was worried as the baby was born early.

"I still don't know whether he will stay in Argentina or come back and play. The main thing for me, the only thing, is that he is happy and the baby is well. If he plays, he plays, but the family is the main thing."

Hopeful

Mascherano remains hopeful that Liverpool will seal the final Champions League spot.

"We are in the position where it depends on us. If we succeed, they will have problems, so we have to do our job," he said.

"So we know how important it is to win. If we manage it, then it'll be more difficult for them and they will be the ones under more pressure, that's for sure.

"I know everybody is expecting us to be in the top four - but I have the belief and confidence that we can be there.

"It's true, our experience of having been there already could be important. It depends on the players and if they can manage things well.

"But over the last four or five years we've done well in various competitions so this can hopefully help us. We have managed the pressure well.

"Ourselves and City, as well as Tottenham and Aston Villa, are in a position where we have to keep going until the end.

"Perhaps one game can be a big difference, so it's important to manage the pressure and maybe our experience can help.

"Perhaps City fans are expecting the team to do better now and they will have a little bit of pressure - and maybe it will be more difficult for them.

"But the most important thing for us is not to concentrate on City, but on us. We need to be in a good position and have the chance to invest in the future."
