I've been investigating derelict buildings.

Ok, so over here theres an old set of buildings called Ladyfield West/Hannahfield Hall. They were used as "Institute for Mentally Disturbed Children" from the 50's right up until the 90's. Some buildings wer closed down earlier than others, but left standing.

There were 3 buildings we got in today, the first was used as dorms, shower rooms and what seems to be a "isolation room" that was used for the dangerous kids.

The second, (which was a bit harder getting in) was an old school. Now, this was the last building open on the site, and closed down just before 2000. There were still posters on the walls, notices on notice boards. Even bars of soap in the sinks! In one room there was even writing on a chalk board dated from 1994. This classroom was way at the back, with the door boarded up (unlike the others), so it led us to believe that this room was closed off from the school while the building while the building was still open.

Finally, was the main building, Hannah Field Hall, We got in through the back into a room filled with rubble, and a half caved in roof. We had to carry torches in this building as it was pitchblack, I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. We walked through the doorway, to just about to make out something painted on the wall. So out came my camera. ALL of the walls are painted with disney stuff, or just pictures. Painted by the kids that lived and died in that building.

Venturing further through the building reveiled an almost basement like building, with a small room containing a generator/heating system (im not too sure). Looking at either end there was a sealed up door (looking in from the outside, both of the doors are under the front driveway).

We backtracked through the building and headed upstairs, the walls are covered in clowns and balloons in this room, (King Antonius doesn't like clowns), this was the only room in the building to have any light, due to a skylight in a big dome ceiling. Looking through into other rooms that branched off there was yet more paintings on the walls. (We didn't go into these rooms as the floors were sagging, and I didn't really want to be involved in a collapse).

Finally, we headed back downstairs and went back down the main corridor, leading to the bathroom. I snapped a photo though the doorway and headed in. Looking around at the sinks and what not, I went to take some pictures, but my camera would not work, it was on, but it would not take any photos. So I shouted over my friend and asked him to snap some photos. His camera would not work either. It was on, but not taking pictures. Thinking this was incredibly strange i suggested we headed back out, stepping out of the bathroom, i turned to try and snap another picture. My camera worked fine, stepping back into the bathroom, it stopped working again. Now, I don't know what the **** was happening, but it freaked the **** out of me. So we left. Climbed out the building, and headed home.

I've heard there is an old hospital a couple of miles out of town. I think that will be next :)

:| That is freaky. Did it make the "taking a picture" sound or did the buttons not work? I say go back there with a few more mates/cameras and try again :D

That is quite cool! i really love wondering into abandoned buildings...they dwell with history of the older times, like that chalk board.

Last summer i managed to get into an abandoned prison..which was nice :p It even had prisoner records and stuff like that! unfortunately i had only an iphone to take pics with :(

Man, whoever did the wall art must have been an egyptian or something. The perspective leaves much to be desired. Didn't they even look at what they were doing? That person would've been out the door if I was running the zoo.

Not to mention multitudinous trademark infringement.

What on earth are you talking about. The majority of the paintings were done by the kids (7-14 years old) back in the 70's. Of course they aint gunna be perfect.

And trademark infringement? Please. If disney can sue them for painting some pictures to keep themselfs happy, they i suppose any other company could sue you for making a painting, or drawing a stick man that looks slightly like a character.

Do youself a favour and shutup.

LMAO this post gets funnier every time I read it, especially with the Snow White pic on screen.

I've been using a mobile broadband dongle with virtually no signal today. It was making pages take forever to load. I have no idea how that double post appeared a few hours later. Don't care really either.

So what are 'Mentally Disturbed Children' ?

The old term for Mentally Disabled Kids. Kids with things as simple reading/writing difficulties (dyslexia) were in there and pumped full of drugs.

Did you try at night? I love it when I go in at night for more spooky and creepy time. Not much activity in daytime. There may be some ghosts in that building. Some ghost can stop you from taking pictures when you tried to press button. This happens to anyone when trying to taking pictures sometimes. Ghost can have fun messing with you.

I went to the very old empty hospital in my town which is called 'Waverly Hills Sanatorium'.. The staff can provide the tours for visitors and provide a closed private tour for movie making companies / ghost hunters.. By the way, there are pictures of the building on their official tour website.

This building is being used in the movies. This movie is one of them... oh and "Death Tunnel" as well.

It can be very creepy and spooky when ghosts are running around. I loved it when I was in the underground tunnel... it was very creepy.

That building is about 30 mins from me.
