once i've grabbed the ecid and created the cerificate, do i just run purplera1n? does the iphone need to be in recovery mode ?

update: ok plugged the iphone in normal mode and purplera1n does its thing, but now im getting a message: "done, waiting for reboot" and its just sitting their... ?? with plug into itunes on the screen.

the tool should put it in recovery mode for you.

the tool also works on vista 32...

Yeah I just tried it on my PC and laptop running Windows 7 x64 and Vista x64 but no luck - it just got stuck in recovery mode. I am doing a full restore at the moment and am about to try it out on my work laptop running XP 32-bit.

Just a small side question, does anyone in this topic know if Windows 7 can Auto-detect if an app needs to run compatibility mode?

I had to do a restore to get it out of recovery mode. It just kept going into recovery mode as soon as I turned it on otherwise.

Looks like it's working on my work laptop (XP 32-bit) so based on my admittedly fairly limited experience so far, I'd avoid x64 OSes for this.

Edit: Ok maybe not. It rebooted fine but I have no Cydia or anything visibly different at all.

Edit2: Just ran it again and it completed much quicker. I now have Freeze showing on my Springboard which is letting me install Cydia :)

Go to purplera1n.com and download the program.

Plug in your iPhone 3GS.

Run purplera1n(if your running Vista, run in XP capability mode).

Run Freeze, it will download and install Cydia(not Icy).

If Cydia doesn't show up right away, reboot your iPhone.

Apparently the path to iTunes is hardcoded in the app to the 32-bit location so that's what's causing it to not work under 64-bit.

Have tried purplera1n 5 times now on Vista (with xp mode), xp itself (exe crashes) and svr 08 32bit.

All end up placing the phone into recovery mode and does not proceed any further...

help? anyone?

I've been reading comments that this Purplera1n is causing a lot of problems.

Are you all able to still use wi-fi, 3G etc?

Everything's fine for me so far. My connection via 3G and wireless works absolutely fine and none of the apps I use are behaving weirdly.

The only problem I did have was when trying VOIPover3G to use Skype with 3G - that caused Skype to bomb out when trying to make a call, even with wireless enabled, but as soon as I removed it it was fine. Wouldn't surprise me if that was a 3.0 incompatibility rather than anything else though.

Apparently Winterboard needs updating. From one of the dev team's twitter accounts..

#The PurpleRa1n 3GS jailbreak (like the unofficial 3.0 beta QuickPwn jailbreaks) is missing critical patches required for WinterBoard (etc.).

This isn't a dev team tool and is quite buggy; Winterboard support is lacking, various Cydia issues, lots of crashing bugs. I'd avoid it and wait for the dev team release.

Yeah it's what I'm thinking, but I want to JB it so bad lol. I did risk using QuickFreedom for my iPod Touch 2G to jb it, but I don't think I will risk it this time, as tempting as it is.

Gah, I wish they'd release it already!
