Release Date: September 2009

About the Game

DiRT 2 will feature a roster of contemporary off-road events, taking players to the most diverse and challenging real-world environments. This World Tour will have players competing in aggressive multi-car and intense solo races at extraordinary new locations, from canyon racing and jungle trails to city stadium-based events.

To be powered by the third generation of the EGO? Engine's award-winning racing game technology, DiRT 2 will benefit from tuned-up car-handling physics system and new damage engine effects. It will also showcase a spectacular new level of visual fidelity, with cars and tracks twice as detailed as those seen in GRID.

DiRT 2's garage houses a best-in-class collection of officially licensed rally cars and off-road vehicles, specifically selected to deliver aggressive and fast paced racing. Covering seven vehicle classes, players will be given the keys to powerful vehicles right from the off. In DiRT 2 the opening drive is the Group N Subaru; essentially making the ultimate car from the original game the starting point in the sequel and the rides just get even more impressive.

In addition to the World Tour, DiRT 2 will come complete with full online functionality that will be core to the overall experience, with head-to-head competitive online play and new social features to engage the racing community. Prepare for mud, gravel, dust and dirt too in DiRT 2, coming 2009.

For PC, PS3, XBOX360, PSP, Wii.

Recent Interview acomputer and video games (CVG)

b>

A lot's expected from Colin McRae DiRT 2 and senior executive producer, Gavin Raeburn, is confident the final game will live up to the target renders the developer's dishing out at press days. What has the EGO Engine allowed you to do that that couldn't be done in previous games and how will we see this in gameplay? b>Raeburnb>: DiRT 2 is actually running on the third iteration of Codemasters' EGO Engine proprietary technology, whereas DiRT was the first generation. As a result, there are many improvements that have been made to DiRT 2 over DiRT. We made key improvements to the EGO engine during the GRID project which lifted the quality of the game to a level we were very happy with.

The development team have learnt a lot from the development of GRID, and have strengthened massively in their ability to get the most out of the hardware, notably pushing SPU usage on PS3, improving multi-core performance on Xbox 360 and adding PC specific features and technology.

...

You promised the game would bring with it "new social features". What can we expect from this? b>Raeburnb>: DiRT 2 includes Leaderboards, news feeds and 'scribbles' to enable players keep up-to-date on their friends' racing achievements. More details to follow soon but I will say that we've listened to our community's feedback from DiRT and we're putting together a comprehensive online package that we think players will be very happy with.

<Since the move to off-road racing and, what us Brits would say, the Americanisation of the last game, can we expect a stronger focus on rallying that made the games famous in the first place? b>Raeburnb>: Colin McRae was a pioneer in rally/off-roading, competing in the X-Games, Dakar rally and Race of Champions following his WRC career. DiRT 2 has his spirit of adventure coursing through its veins and, like him; we're embracing fresh challenges and opportunities.

We believe that DiRT 2 encompasses all the very best that contemporary off-roading has to offer, with but that doesn't mean that we've forgotten our heritage. We've still got a good spread of 'traditional' rallying in the game, which we believe captures the sport at its most thrilling - dizzyingly fast, dangerous and very dirty. Man and machine in perfect harmony, pushing it to the absolute limit. We think you'll like it. What's the single biggest, key feature that's new about the game?b>Raeburnb>: It would have to be thWorld Tourb>. This is the career mode and with it we're creating a journey for the player, which will encapsulate the spirit of off-road racing - it's about travelling the world in your RV, hitting off-road festivals and building your rep as a driver.

Along the way you'll build friendships with the stars of the modern off-road world and these relationships help you move up the ladder. If you impress and get on well with the big names on the circuit, they'll invite you to cooler events and even offer to team up with you for major competitions. The USA, Japan, Malaysia, Croatia and others await as you climb to the pinnacle of modern competitive off-roading.

Dirt 2 First Look

Dirt 2 Interview

Codemasters brand manager Guy Pearce about the announcement of Dirt 2

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

My Thoughts-

All i care about is the handling of cars & Rally tracks in DiRT2, please Codies, make it more llike CMR2/04 or atleast like CMR05:D:D

Dirt1's handling was horrible, with that super duper powerful brake:D:D , that killed all the fun. dont forget th"No tyre choice"b:argh:h: . All that time spent on creating life like rally tracks was useless with that kind of screw up.

GTA4 has more realistic driving physics , why are you Codies doin the opposite:p:p

Codies (CM) should make driving more fun in CMR series, like they should concentrate more on small details like what the heck happens when you are coming out of a corner/ HAIRPIN turn , e.g., if you over power, the car should lose its rear end & then we have fun doin the opposite lock:devil:l: & control the car with throttle thereafter.

I still play CMR 04,05 coz driving a EVO & STi SIDEWAYS is more fun in it than any other game.

crap, i miss doinScandinavian Flickb>.

Codies bring back the handling style frm old CMR's, bring back (atleast) semi realistic driving physics, kill super duper powerful brakes, give us tyre choices, add more WRC tracks & for gods' sake bring back

Dirt 1 absolutely sucked so they don't have to do much to make this one better. The trucks and rails were decent, but holy crap, the rest was just the worst Ive ever played. Rally racers are one of my favorite genres of game.

Would you mind expanding on that? What was so horrifically bad about the original DiRT?

Everything except the trucks and rails/buggies. Just horrible in every way. sound sucked, graphics sucked, handling/realism sucked?, damage model blah ...one of the wost rally racers ever:xx . On the other hand the trucks and rails were well done. Im a Codemasters fan, I know they can do way better than this abomination and Im very confident they'll get #2 right.

There is a kind of unwritten law that official topics shouldn't be made until closer to release date. This topic is gonna disappear into the back pages seeing as the game isn't out for another 6 months :p

p.s I can't wait for the game :p

I would have to agree because there have been two complete posts already with basically the same information. Bah! :p

Are they still calling it Colin McRae?

I don't see why not? although I do admit on most of the [limited] info I've seen on it, it's only every been called DiRT 2 so they might of dropped it but not sure.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this :) I really enjoyed the first game and considering the improvements they have already done to the engine with GRID (which I also really enjoyed) I'm pretty confident this game is going to be positively awesome and it's definitely on my must have list (along with Mass Effect 2)

DiRT had one of the best damage modeling for it's time. Sound was great (on the PS3 especially;))) and the graphics were pretty good considering how much they were rendering in the background. The only thing that truly sucked was the 'multiplayer' which CM said they just didn't have that in the works in time.

Everything except the trucks and rails/buggies. Just horrible in every way. sound sucked (Lemme guess, you had it on headphones. Get a decent 5.1 system, and play the game again. Not many games have effects when using the head cam you can hear the engine echo when you are in tunnels or near tall walls), graphics sucked (Guessing you have a black and white SD TV), handling/realism sucked?(Ok, the realism sucked, but once you relised it wasn't trying to be a sim like CM04, then it was fun)>, damage model blah(I don't understanf this one?? Roll you car, bits crumple and bend. Scenery crunmbes and bends when you hit it.)> ...one of the wost rally racers ever:xx . On the other hand the trucks and rails were well done. Im a Codemasters fa (No you are not)>, I know they can do way better than this abomination and Im very confident they'll get #2 right.

Handling on the first Dirt was horrible for me, same as Grid, but only with ps2-like controler.

Tried to change the sensibility and everything, but it turned too much., and what bugs me the most is that I've never had any problem with any other driving game, and I loved the handling of Grid demo on the 360 >_>

    • WordArt was cool. We now have color fonts as a substitute although Word only supports COLRv0 and COLRv1 (Fraud OS 11 only). The OpenType SVG color font format needs to be supported by Office. Adobe's apps support it
