Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 9, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) Section 8 is an upcoming first person shooter and original IP developed by TimeGate Studios and published by SouthPeak Interactive. It utilizes the Unreal Engine 3 and will be released for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360.[2] Section 8 will allow players to dynamically alter the flow of combat as they see fit, employing tactical assets and on-demand vehicle deliveries. It is scheduled to be released on August 28, 2009.[1] Click here for the Section 8 Beta. The keys will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. It's open to North America and Europe (sign-up only for now. You can watch trailers and videos of Section 8. here. In case anyone was wondering, the beta client clocks in at 2.43 GB. Note: Upon entering your beta key in-game, you will be required to log in using your GameSpy ID and password. Don't have one? Register an account at GameSpy.com (top right-hand side). Here's what I submitted to get a key: Core2Duo E6750 @ 3.2 GHz ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB 8GB DDR2-800 UPDATE: Download and install the patch here. A little heads up: the patch weighs in at a hefty 496.7 MB. Also, the beta is open to North America and Europe; however, users are reporting that the European beta hasn't begun yet. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 9, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2009 What did you put in for your system info to get into the beta? :shifty: I put in my system specs: Core2Duo E6750 @ 3.2 GHz, HD 4870 512MB, 8GB DDR2-800 RAM. If I remember correctly, it had categorical options like "DualCore +2GHz", etc. I guess they're looking for users with reasonably equipped PCs. What are your system specs? Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 9, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2009 What in the world? That's odd. I wonder what kind of criteria they're using. To those that already got a key, please post your specs. In the meantime, I'm going to install the client.
trag3dy
I'm betting it's nvidia cards they aren't wanting. Also...how the hell do you register a new fileplanet account without subcribing to a plan?
svnO.o
I put ATI Radeon 4700 series for my GPU and you can see the other specs in my sig. Perhaps they have some kind of quota system where they only accept X amount of users with certain specs and they've already gotten enough people testing that are using nvidia cards? Also...how the hell do you register a new fileplanet account without subcribing to a plan? Perhaps. You don't have to subscribe to create a FilePlanet account. Go here and click "Login" which is on the left-hand side. From there, fill in the information on the right-hand side. I put ATI Radeon 4700 series for my GPU and you can see the other specs in my sig. Perhaps they have some kind of quota system where they only accept X amount of users with certain specs and they've already gotten enough people testing that are using nvidia cards? That makes sense. NVIDIA has more market share than ATI which means, more people will have NVIDIA video cards than ATI video cards. Anyway, the setup file for the beta client takes forever to launch. It's driving me nuts!
trag3dy
Yeah, I registered a new account/email and put Anaron's specs and I got in. So put that you have an ATI card even if you're using an nvidia one.

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 9, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2009 I registered with your specs and I got in! :D Thank you. You're welcome. I updated my original post to include some relevant information. It turns out you have to enter the beta key in-game. Fortunately, you can copy and paste the key and it'll work. Also, you'll need a GameSpy ID and password to play. A link to register a GameSpy account is in my original post.
trag3dy
Woot, anyhow...I haven't been paying to much attention to this game. What's the game play like? Is it kind of like an mmo, or a typical fps where you just join games/servers?

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 9, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2009 Woot, anyhow...I haven't been paying to much attention to this game. What's the game play like? Is it kind of like an mmo, or a typical fps where you just join games/servers? I just finished playing. The gameplay is somewhat unique. You're given the choice of a variety of loadouts: assault, recon, artillery, custom, etc. You choose your loadout and select a drop spot (spawn area). Once you do that, you're flying through the air and you're instructed to hit 'E' for brakes. You then proceed to take over points by hacking into computers in a compound. The area you venture into is defended by ground and anti-air turrets. However, you could easily take them out with a clip or two. The weapons are futuristic looking and the gameplay dynamics are different. You can sprint by holding shift but it takes a few seconds to kick in. Also, pressing the spacebar will make you jump really high (thanks to a mini jet-pack). Anyway, it's getting late and I need some sleep. I'll get into more detail in the morning.
