Yep. They are one of the top car makers for quality. Also the price is nice. I don't understand paying more for Honda or Toyota for the same product. I'm more of a quality/value guy over aesthetics.

The resale value on most Hyundais is ass.

Will it be the same with the Genesis Coupe? I hope not, that's one affordable sports car that I'd consider.

2: While I LOVE the Nissan Versa (I really do, it's a great car to drive and very practical), it has some really bad reliability issues which still haven't been addressed by Nissan. The multitude of steering problems comes to mind, from squeaking and thumping noises to wobbles while driving that have no apparent cause

Hm, I hadn't heard about this. I've got nearly 40k miles on mine and haven't ever noticed anything like that.

Of course, now that I have typed this, I'll notice it tonight on my way home.

edit: This is not reported as a common problem on repairpal and I can't find any mention of it elsewhere...

When I was testdriving the car, I drove both the sedan and the hatch and I would not recommend the hatchback, because rear visibility was really bad, IMHO.

My only significant complaint is that the oil filter is placed oddly. Maybe it's better if you have a lift or pit, but it's difficult to reach if you're under the car. If you don't do your own regular service, you probably won't care.

Actually, looking around it seems a common problem for Nissan cars in general. I just knew about the versa issues because I almost bought one last year and went onto some forums and was staggered by how many people had this steering noise problem. A lot of other common complaints are about the CD player dying very quickly, gas cap not fitting tightly, which causes a lack of pressure, transmission slippage, and problems starting. I know that site doesn't show anything more than "The fuel pressure regulator can bleed off fuel pressure when the car is parked overnight causing a long cranking time before the engine starts." which would explain the starting problem, but there are many more problems a very high number of people are having.

If it's a common problem across categories it may be related to the CVT. As noted I drive the 6-speed manual. What transmission do you have?

edit:

n/m, looks like one of those links has someone who has some sort of m/t.

Still haven't seen it myself. *crosses fingers*

Ya, it's suspension components, not tranny. The tranny slippage is with the cvt though.

Dismissing a vehicle out of hand without driving it seems like a poor way to respond to constructive attempts to answer your question.

My mom got the exact car he suggested about 4 years ago and it's a death trap... the car is very small and i always feel like there is nothing between me and other cars on the road. I always HATE driving it. not sure if they have made too many changes in these years but it would have to be a lot to earn me back.

Nissan is out of the question for me. I have a 2 year old sentra and it has 18k miles on it.... it hasn't been driven for about 9 months because everytime we drive it we notice something new that's wrong with it.... they have recalled different parts from the car 3 times so far and I have had to take it in for random noises 4-5 times since we bought it. this was all covered under the warranty and the guy admiter that it's really not the driver's fault.

I am a fraid that this might just be a bad car but it has ruined nissan's reputation for me.

Despite what the media likes to tell you, yes Hyundai is improving, but they're not THAT good at the moment. I would avoid the Hyundai Accent and you'd still get laughed off for trying to resell it after 3 or 4 years -- while a Honda would be worth like $8000-10000, your Accent would be worth, say, $1000? :p

The thing is with Hyundai, a similarly equipped unit compared to a Honda or Toyota the price difference would be no more than a couple thousand bucks... it's only if you go for base model vs base model comparison (Where the Honda base model is much more equipped than the Hyundai could ever hope to ever come close). Level of refinement? Still got room for improvement.

The Nissan Versa's not a bad car, but again reliability -- as far as I know it's really a Renault which is not known for reliable vehicles.

The Lancer's not bad but the interior is :x

:p

I'd love to get the 2010 Focus - it looks awesome  But I've always liked the Mazda 3, great car. The Civic looks a bit meh, but driving is brilliant. Just ask chc lol.

BTW if you ever decide to buy an Si, which is frankly one of my favorite cars I've driven, you'd have a hard time resisting kicking in teh VTAK yo.

 FTW! (Y)

Edit: When I saw the topic title, I knew that chconline had to have posted something pro-Civic/pro-VTEC on this thread. He kept up to my expectations ;)

The American and "other side of the world" models are different with regards to the Civic and the Focus. Over here the Ford Focus (USDM) is average at best.

Ford Focus has been the class leader since 1998, so maybe have a test drive on that?

Plus, the new one looks sexy and interesting. Compared to a german box of bland, anyway.

Again not in North America :p

Really? I knew they would have some differences, but I never thought it could be much worse? Unless, it's a totally different model, that's been designed in America? Here in Europe, the new gen at least, Civic, is about average, it's certainly not without it's faults.

As said, Toyota's are generally reliable, however they are probably the dullest vehicles around (apart from the iQ). Have you thought about going on any test drives yet, or requested any brochures?

So I went in and test drived a few honda's yesterday and I have to say the only one I that was acceptable to me was the accord coupe. the accord sadan was way too big for me i felt like driving a boat. and the civic was so small on the inside my dad almost didn't fit in the car. I like the turning on the civic cause it was so small but in the end it didn't feel right. accord coupe was the winner in the honda models. I gave up on toyotas and am looking at the mazda line for something worth spending time on.

The current Civic... is already too big.

A mazda3 in comparison to my 98 coupe has massive legroom lol... Always feels weird sitting in a car with lots of space.

There's one exception, with the 7th gen SiR we have the same Euro spec EP3 made in England.

Agreed. But to compensate for the height problem for the front passenger seat, Honda should allow the front passenger seat to be adjusted for height (not just the driver seat). As for the rear, maybe just reduce the cushion height, and the Civic would not need to be made any larger.

I hate to add things on to this topic but also don't wnt to open another one. Can i get some feed back on the subaru legacy? I found out that I can get a really nice 09 one for cheap since the dealer is trying to get ride of them. 2.5i limited is what i am looking at

thanks

The Legacy (and all subarus) are full time AWD. This makes them worse on fuel, and unfortunately the maintenance costs on the subarus are really high. The maintenance they require you to do to keep your warranty is uncalled for. However, they are really good vehicles.

I have a friend that bought an 09 Chevy Aveo Sedan and absolutely loves it. She had a Corolla for years and finally bought a new car. It has everything she wanted and it's not an American car really. Gets great gas mileage and rides like a dream for a small car. She worked on the price at the dealer and got it for less than 16k. It came with CD/Sunroof/Alloy wheels/Electric everything and cruise. Just another thought for the mix.

I recommend NOT going this route. The Aveo is really a Daewoo Kalos. Daewoo makes horrible cars. My girlfriend works for Hertz (not corporate, a private one) and they stopped carrying the Aveo because they were constantly in the shop.

The Aveo (and its 150 or so variants of the same car with a different nameplate) is one of the ****iest cars in the market today. No joke. The Civic to Aveo is like an Audi RS4 compared to a Kia Forte.
